Broken emulation

So I just got this set up today and for some reason both of the games I've tried to load up are breaking. I can hear all the audio in Mario Brothers but for some reason it's not showing any of the screen. And then for Mario kart it's not showing any of the UI or menus so I can't see anything whenever I pause the game or you can see me scrolling through player options and cart stuff and just nothing showing. And whenever I got into a race even then like none of the UI will work
