#drag and drop sidechain

  1. add a chain device
  2. add a tool in the first slot
  3. add the thing you want to sidechain after. make its sidechain input the tool device.

now save the preset. call it something like '<device name> SC'
you can now open the preset whenever you want to sidechain that device.

you can drag the tool wherever you want it to sidechain from.

as long as you dont put it somewhere where bitwig doesnt allow sidechain routing, it'll just transparently move the sidechain source wherever you want it.

now you dont have to go through the lists to set up sidechain.

huh, didn't realize that sidechain source is tied to the device that way. I just have a default template with common things I sidechain already set up

yeah its great. i love that it remembers their connection. makes it fun and exciting to test things. like just now, i was randomly dragging it through different devices when i noticed this works really well

loud split set to relative mode, realtively high tilt. i put the tool as sidechain source in the loud section, and the dynamics in the wet fx of the long reverb

#

veeeery transparent reverb

#

normally this stuff just becomes a chore. if its like
group -> group -> group -> track -> loud split -> select the 'loud'-- .... oh wait. you cant. you have to add a tool first in the loud split. etc 😆

Does it work for a device that doesn't have the direct sidechain in? Like can you use the audio SC modulator and source the Tool, and control various knobs...right?

#

Seems like it would work similarly.

its also working for note receiver paried with replacer too

#

(which is a nice combo if you want audio to trigger replacer on a track, which you can then use as innput midi to trigger something else on another track)
