I’ve found it hard to grasp what each slider and button does out of the box. I’ll have to read the manual and try again.

But the sounds do have a vibe

#

Has anyone compared it to ColourCopy or the BBD Mode on Valhalla Delay?

ColourCopy is a great plugin! No direct experience with Valhalla one to compare. This one provides a distinctive vintage and noisy sounds.

I did try it once more with reading the manual. It kind of is a one trick pony to me. It does the lo-fi BBD Delay really well but falls short when it comes to being versatile. Other Plugins I have such as Valhalla Delay and u-he Colour Copy are simply much more versatile. Another thing that I didn't like is the user interface which is a symptom of modelling on old hardware I guess.

#

But of course I am judging the plugin on something it doesn't try to achieve. If the original hardware unit means something to you this plugin is for you.

Mmmmm. I wouldn't call a saxophone or a clarinet or a crash cymbal a "one trick pony"... sound a bit "derogatory" to me. This is an emulation of a distinctive analogue vintage device, it doesn't try to be anything different. If you like it, nice, if you don't like, always nice but no thanks. Clearly, my 2c.

Don't worry... I don't take it personally, I'm not Audiothing, lol... It's just that I, probably not being mother tongue, give a negative value to the expression "one trick pony"; it sounds like "I don't like the piano because it cannot sound like a trumpet" to me. So, bear with me. I find the vibe of Mantis intriguing, with a touch that other effects, which can do more things, don't do in that way.

Im not a native speaker either so my line of thinking was pony’s —> cute —> So “one trick pony” can’t be that bad. But sure mantis has a unique vibe and I know where to look if I ever feel in need of that vibe.

I demoed it sounded great. Seems limited in use. I do wish there was a tempo synced offset
