I finally decided that my new plugin, Manta, is finished. Here's a video: https://youtu.be/4_J-QRlKrRk I'll write a TLDW soon.

This is manta, a parallel bandpass plugin made mainly with the intention of adding fatness to drums in mind, but it also goes into some serious sounddesign territory if you want it to.

It is a parallel bandpass filter plugin, also called a resonator. As the title suggests I made it in response to dan worrall's bandpass filter video, where he used those to make drums considerably fatter, but in a natural way.

#

So I basically made a plugin for that to make it more convenient and straight-forward. It solves some imo often occuring workflow problems like:

  • a lot of parallel filter plugins don't have a gain knob on the bandpass filters for some reason.
  • you can add other pitch-based effects right in the plugin instead of having to sync its settings with other stuff in your chain.
  • you can turn up the q-factor way more than in most bandpass-filter plugins
#

It also has some nerdy features like a formula parser for wavetable creation, parameter randomizers with flexible options and a tuning editor where you can modulate to a different xen scale

Nice i may try to build it from source for mac

I have no idea how to package the binaries into an installer .pkg/dmg but I'll see.

no idea either. i never make installers but just copy vst3 files into the corresponding folder

Hey Flo, how would you say does your mantra compare to this new one: https://xynth.gumroad.com/l/rezonator

@dusk verge Not sure if you saw ^^ this. Please forgive me tagging you for that ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

dusk verge
#

this plugin is awesome. i saw it already in its early stages

next oxide
#

But, your mantra is not so different, is it?

#

ok, they have 6 bands, and you have 2 (I think)

#

And you dont have a snap to scale thing I guess

dusk verge
#

rezonator has more filters. manta has 3

#

i also don't have snap to scale, but snap to pitch + a parameter for alternative xen scales

next oxide
#

of course theirs is more polished, but probably 10x of dev time went into rezonator ๐Ÿ˜„

dusk verge
#

in manta every filter is followed by a comb filter, saturation and a ring modulator

next oxide
#

Ahh, ok. So it does a bit more

dusk verge
#

and i have a convenient eq pad

next oxide
#

However giving mantra the rezonator features would probably not be the biggest challenge. Not that you should do it. Im sure you already have tons of other ideas, as always.

dusk verge
#

actually just today i was thinking about snap to scale. but idk yet. i did wanna move on to my next project after all

next oxide
#

Do you know if rezonator supports midi in, to control the freq of the bands?

dusk verge
#

i think i saw that once but not sure

next oxide
#

So whats your next project? ๐Ÿ‘€

dusk verge
#

i have a few different ideas, not decided yet. atm i just focus a bit more on university first and lowkey tidy up my code base. always looks like shit at the end of a project

next oxide
#

If you are undecided, you could ask in one of your yt polls ๐Ÿ™‚

#

oh yeah, tidying up is no fun tho ๐Ÿ˜„

dusk verge
#

i think it can be relaxing. and a satisfying feeling the more it approaches being done

#

followed by a feeling of emptyness when it's done

next oxide
#

it can also lead into questioning the whole architecture and wanting to rewrite everything ๐Ÿ˜„

dusk verge
#

yeah i sometimes do that, when i feel brave
