So after driving for 78+KM. I had collected everything but 2 parts for the Dada (2x Molding), UAZ (Passenger Door & its panel, and the IFA (Rear License Plate & Right Corner Window). First thing I noticed was after the 24 KM mark I saw no more towers. I also only saw 3 of the Gas station store with the garage and only 1 Double Garage with the big blow up green guy. I had collect some water, petrol, diesel, food, drinks, paint, scrub brushes, sponges, a few AKs and a couple of RPGs. I did have a few extra engines and batteries. The only other thing I collected the most of was tires. I had quite a few of them. Only because even though I had the settings set up where the tires could go well I thought it was set for 90+km but after checking it was set at 46km. Anyway I was replacing them every 10 or 15km. The first set went pretty far but as soon as they went it felt like I was replacing them pretty steady. Anyway back to my problem.

At 78+km I finally came to a motel. From playing last summer (the last time I played the game until last week) I know about the room with the radiation and teleporting to the Backroom. Anyway after teleporting and getting geared up with the suit and headlamp. I started to put the cart together. I was not in it more than 10 min before something glitched and now it looks like I am just staring at myself. I can zoom in and out with the scroll wheel on the mouse. I have an arrow cursor but can not do anything. So I restarted the game thinking I may just start from where I entered the backroom. Nope I was wrong. When the game loads up I am in free fall in some white space. Does this mean I lost all my progress and have to start all over again? Another note is that a couple of nights ago I was playing and noticed that the play clock stopped and when I restart it just remain at 00:00:00. Also the farther you go no matter what I am carrying the lag and save times get worse and worse. I even got to a point where almost all the POIs had either had a couple things or absolutely nothing there. Even the bus stops and phone booths were gone. The motel had nothing at all.
Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it? Also has anyone completed at least 1 car? It seems like I always run into an issue where I have to start over after I hit 40 or 50 km. I once made it to 62km and today I was able to pass that and made it to 78km. Although I have been driving past a bunch of nothing since about 30km. I get a vehicle here and there but nothing I could use.
I was on discord with Ryan and he suggested to just drive 1 car until you complete it. I tried but ended up with 3. Only cause it gave me more to do and bettered my odds at finding something I could pick up.
One more thing. While collecting the parts for the van or UAV. I finally found the gas pedal and put it in. When I tried to drive it said I dont have one.
I guess I am going to start over AGAIN. I like the game and the concept. I will admit that when I set it up all the zombie stuff is shut off. I also have it set so the probability of finding stuff is high and the POIs I are more frequent. I do have the water and food set for 1. I also have battery where set to 1 and recharge on 5. Tire where is at 90 ?km and overheat is off. So its set to just basically drive and collect. Eat drink & piss and replace tires when needed or replace a battery because something in the car was left on. However I am going to give it one more go. If I have this happen again then Im done. I must say that this last go was better but because I was working on the Dada UAV and the IFA. I passed up on completeing the Musgoat, GTR, and Triclops. I drove by a dozen or more Musgoats and Triclops.

You die in backrooms, that's the END. If you don't finish the backrooms in 1 sitting, it's THE END. You'll have to lead an earlier save from before you got to the motel if you want to re-enter the backrooms.
You do know that there is a history of save files if you just click this big pink button?

You probably were attacked by a monster with "Player death" toggle off, that' smost likely the case for this issue.

You prob ably had the gas pedal installed in the wrong location, to install it you need to remove the floor mat and driver side door for access. Each vehicle needs 3 pedals to fully function, and sounds like you installed the gas pedal in the brake pedal location instead. Some parts are more difficult to install than others.

Each player will have a different game performance depending on type of hardware you have, so you'll need to find a balance so you utilize 100% of your GPU so that the CPU processes don't get overloaded.
If you have the item Probability of occurrence turned to the highest value, as well as Points of interest frequency set to the highest value, it will affect the base game function where there's too many items spawn causing lag and empty POIs due to lack of available space. There is a reason it's not maxed out on any of the presets, but you can reduce the distance between POI frequency, and still play it if you balance it out.
The game generates the world in CHUNKS, so if there's already max amount of items and parts in the chunk, any next POIs will be empty, especially if you're towing too many vehicles at once, as you mentioned before.
I'm recommending the 1 vehicle per save for a reason....
If you haven't followed any of the DBH announcements or news, you're probably not even aware of the GARAGE update that is coming. I hoped you could put 2 and 2 together and figure it out based on my recommendations.
And no, you cannot complete a car under 50km if that's what you're expecting. Sometimes it takes several hundreds of KM to complete 1 vehicle, it's intentional, even if you start towing 1 behind you, it'll affect the spawns of vehicles that you are driving or towing, so you'll just end up towing for longer trying to look for that last 1 or 2 parts anyway.

Thanks that cleared up a lot. I figured out the van and you were right. It was on the brake. I was not expecting on finishing a car in 50 km. I just have not been able to make to 80km. I see some people have gone 100s and 1000s. Which was leaving me wondering how. My game usually crashes before 80. I have been looking for this back up history button. Other in this post I don't see it anywhere.

Click LOAD button on main menu, then on each save you have a BACKUP HISTORY button.

Try reloading the save, or run in the opposite direction where you came from. Car saves first when auto saving, and it doesn't save your character till you're little further down the road sometimes.
