Baked Cat has submitted a ticket

Versions: Fika:2.0.2 Spt:4.0.1
Networking: Port forwarding
Description: my friend is hosting a server for 3 of us (4 in total). 2 of my friends on separate isps and routers have no problems joining, but me and my friend who live in the same house can not join his server. we have port forwarded on our router and out firewalls are not blocking the fika connections. We have no clue where else to go with this. I tried looking online and I can not find a similar situation so I was wondering if anyone else had ideas. we have deco mesh system routers

So two friends outside the same network can join since they are using port forwarding but the person who is on the same lan network cannot join if I'm reading this correctly

#

Your friend who lives in the same house and is on the same network is using what IP to attempt to join? The public IP I'm guessing?

#

What they should be using is the IPv4 local address which normally starts with 192.x.x.x unless you are using a different class/subnet (some routers do)

#

The reason they cannot join using the public IP is that your router does not support what is called a NAT loopback or hairpin and an easy way to explain it is that cannot process using a public IP (which is what faces the internet) to route to anything back in the same network

let me rephrase this. My friend is hosting, 2 other friends can join him just fine. all 3 of these people are on separate internet connections. me and my roommate can not join and we are on the same internet connection

Define hosting

modest sonnet
#

my friend who is hosting is using port forwarding and running the server off of his home pc

void bronze
#

Sure the server connection is a backend server and hosts the flea market, updating profiles, hideout processes, inventory management, updating profiles, etc it does not have anything to do with hosting raids

#

Raids are P2P meaning each person attempting to host a raid has to have those port forwards if you are using port forwarding

#

So if person A has the ports forwarded correctly (UDP 25565 by default) your saying that person A, B, and C can join but you (person D) and your friend (person E) cannot join that raid and are getting an error?

modest sonnet
#

so i am running port forwarding on our router, but my 2 friends that can join are not running port forwarding on their routers but can join in the spt fika main menu and see each other and then join in raids together. but when me and my roommate go into developer options and put his IPV4 with 6969 it says unable to connect unlike our 2 other friends

#

i dont know if i am explaining this in the best way im trying to figure this out after working a 12 hour shift

#

yes

void bronze
#

TCP port 6969 must be forwarded for the server host only in order for people to connect to the server - Which sounds like based on what you are telling me is done and is working fine

#

No one else is required to forward TCP 6969

modest sonnet
#

ok i only did it as a precation because it wasnt working

void bronze
#

So again just to make sure I understand correctly you and your friend can connect to that server and see other people on the main menu right?

modest sonnet
#

no we can not, my other 2 friends can

void bronze
#

Ok so based on the other two friends on different networks and in different locations being able to connect I would guess your hosting friend's port forwards are still working and setup correctly and it is likely an issue with your network/firewall setup

#

So some quick tests/questions

Are you using a 3rd party firewall or antivirus by any chance that might have a different firewall in place?

Any VPNs currently being used/run?

#

Also did you use the installer to install FIKA or was it a manual install? The reason I ask this is that it should have created rules for SPT/FIKA in the firewall automatically but I think I've seen maybe one or two others who have had similar issues

modest sonnet
#

no just windows defender becasue my antivirus i had blocked fika from installing, no, i used the installer like it recommended

#

i think it has something to do with our router and it's settings because it's only us that can not join but i have no clue

void bronze
#

I guess I should also double check the URL and IP screens just to double check that that is correctly in place

#

Just to confirm you still have the https:// and the :6969 with no white character or spaces at the end

#

I assume they are using the default port of TCP 6969

modest sonnet
#

yes I also made sure to remove the slash at the end.

void bronze
#

Discord loves to add that slash

#

@modest sonnet, that message is not allowed! finger_wave

void bronze
#

Thats fine I still saw it in the logs

#

That is the correct format

modest sonnet
#

ok i was gonna send a screenshot in case

void bronze
#

Well without the / obviously because again discord just adds that

modest sonnet
#

but yeah what i put was just without the slash (and numbers not x's but im not doxing him lol)

void bronze
#

Yeah no worries

#

So for a quick test can you try turning your firewall off and trying the connection to their server and after it either works or fails turn the firewall back on

modest sonnet
#

I can probably try tomorrow he had to get off for work

void bronze
#

Ok that would be my next test that I'd try and just update this ticket

modest sonnet
#

Ok I will do, thank youpeepo_love

Are you connection with the internal LAN IP? Or trying with the WAN IP?

If you are on the same network as the machine that has the server, it sounds like your ISP / router doesn't allow loopback.
