Versions: SPT 3.11.4 FIKA 1.2.8
Networking: Port Forwarding
Description: I have port forwarded the required 6969 and 25565 and checked with a port checker and my external IP to see that they are open. However my friend cannot connect to me and my hosted server but I can. We tried it the other way around and I could connect to them with no issue. We are trying to find a way for me to host the server, not wanting him to do so as I have the equipment to do so.

what do you mean "6969 and 25565 and checked with a port checker and my external IP to see that they are open"? they both appear as Open when checked with portchecker.co? can you post a screenshot (obscure part of your IP if visible)

thorn garden
#

good. 25565 should report closed though, right?

fathom lance
#

yes

#

I currently have a server hosted as well as my own instance running as well

k then your friend just needs to open SPT.Launcher.exe -> click Settings in the top right -> click the Developer Mode checkbox and change their URL to https://your.pub.lic.ip:6969 and it will work

#

this is an issue with your friend's launcher setting

fathom lance
#

they have done that and it refuses to let them connect

#

we have been on stream trying to figure this out for awhile

thorn garden
#

they missed something. try again. or post a screenshot of their launcher settings page with two of the numbers in the IP censored.

#

it is very common to leave off the s in https and it is very common to leave off the :6969

thorn garden

have them restart their launcher. if that doesn't work, let's try to make sure 6969 reports as open only when your server is open. close spt.server.exe and re-check port 6969 and make sure it reports Closed. then open spt.server.exe again and make sure it reports Open.

basically make sure that you are in control of the Open or Closed status of port 6969

#

it should only report as Open when the server is running

fathom lance
#

server closed

#

server running

thorn garden
#

are you in a country or is your friend in a country where there would be a reasonable expectation that the two of you cannot directly connect together?

fathom lance
#

no we are both in the same country. just not close

thorn garden
#

if portchecker.co reports 6969 as Open when you have the server open (and only when you have the server open) then it is available for connections from the wider internet.

the only things that could be wrong are

  • friend has the incorrect URL in their launcher
  • something like a firewall or issue on the backend internet is blocking the two of you from connecting together

do you have another friend you trust that can see if it works? alternatively, do you have a mobile device with a mobile data connection / some other way to open https://your.pub.lic.ip:6969 in a browser from outside your network and see if it works? (if it works it should throw up a unsigned certificate error and if you bypass the warning it'll download a meaningless encrypted file)

#

the other alternative is to use a VPN like Radmin / ZeroTier if the two of you cannot get a direct connection working

@fathom lance, that file extension is not allowed! finger_wave
Allowed extensions: .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .webp, .gif, .mp4, .mov, .webm, .mp3, .wav, .json, .jsonc, .json5, .yaml, .yml, .txt, .log, .cfg, .mkv, .bmp, .ts

fathom lance
#

it threw a nonsense file for my friend

thorn garden
#

then the issue is not on your end

#

100% the issue is either your buddy has the URL wrong or something is blocking the connection between the two of you

fathom lance
#

could it be a firewall issue on my end? or would it have to be something on their end?

thorn garden
#

does buddy use a VPN or something?

fathom lance
#

i dont think so

thorn garden
#

this is not a you thing

fathom lance
#

i dont even know how to do that if I am honest

thorn garden
#

right

#

this is on your friend 99.9999%

fathom lance
#

i am waiting on their response

thorn garden
fathom lance
#

yes

thorn garden
#

then either they have a firewall blocking spt.launcher.exe or the URL is incorrect

#

they can connect to you, they can connect to your server (you probably saw a red UNHANDLED message from their IP when they hit your server in a browser, yes?), this is a very narrow issue specific to their launcher

fathom lance
#

oh wait no i thought I was to my ip to anotother (different) friend

#

i did receive this from my server end

thorn garden
#

right. so that was from a different friend?

can the friend who is having the problem do the same thing in a browser?

fathom lance
#

i will have them do so

#

it didnt give give the friend who was trying to connect a nonsense folder

thorn garden
#

yeah so there is something blocking the connection between the two of you. i cannot explain what it is, but the rest of the internet appears to be able to connect to you.

pivot and use Radmin/ZeroTier

fathom lance
#

alrighties will give that a try

fathom lance
#

we are just going to have him host for the meantime. He is going through his network and troubleshooting. Thank you for the help.
