Hello,
For some time now, I haven’t been able to download files via Trivalent at https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ or https://www.gimp.org/downloads/thanks.html. I click on the relevant version, go to the next page, and the download is supposed to start automatically, but nothing happens. I’ve enabled V8 optimisation for the page as a test, but it makes no difference. What could be causing this? Can anyone download GIMP via the official website with Trivalent?

At the moment it’s version 147.0.7727.101, but I’ve had this issue with the website for several weeks now, so it’s been happening with various versions of Trivalent. Trivalent should be running in its default configuration on my system; I haven’t changed any settings.
You have to enable the pop up thing for that website
chrome://settings/content/popups
add gimp.org to the whitelist
@fair agate I'm not able to reproduce but why are you downloading gimp from the website?
Strange … on a completely different system (laptop) using a different internet connection, with Secureblue fully updated, I’m having exactly the same problem. Even if I create a new Trivalent profile and don’t change anything, or completely delete ~/.config/trivalent, the download from gimp.org still never starts. Adding gimp.org to the whitelist under chrome://settings/content/popups doesn’t seem to help either. With Firefox on the same system, the download starts immediately.
I’m not downloading GIMP from the website for myself, but for colleagues working in a Windows environment without internet access. I was just curious as to why Trivalent has this issue on this site – alternatively, I’ll download new versions from here in future: https://download.gimp.org/gimp/
That’s right! With JavaScript disabled, I can download something from gimp.org/downloads/, but as soon as JavaScript is enabled, I’m redirected to gimp.org/downloads/thanks.html and nothing happens.
By the way, I’m having the same problem on obsproject.com. With JavaScript disabled, I can start downloads, but as soon as JavaScript is enabled (and the pop-up is confirmed), I’m redirected to obsproject.com/welcome with the message “Thank you for downloading OBS Studio!”, and nothing happens.
why are you downloading gimp from the website at all....?
@fair agate
Why shouldn't I download GIMP from the official website? I need at least the Windows version of GIMP so I can make it available to my coworkers on a network without internet access for a Windows environment.
oh, if you're trying to download the windows exe to share with windows envs, that's different
I figured you were trying to install it on secureblue, and was confused why you weren't just using the flatpak
Oh, I see! No, I personally use Silverblue and Secureblue and try to install all programs via Flatpak or brew.
Trivalent seems to have some kind of issue with gimp.org and obsproject.com when JavaScript is enabled and you try to download something. It redirects you, but the download never starts.
trivalent you mean i think
but yeah
this is a weird bug
i can't reproduce
Speaking of Vanadium … I just gave it a try: Vanadium running on GrapheneOS has no trouble with either website; after clicking “Download” it redirects me and the save dialog pops up.
can you open an issue for this on trivalent's issues page
