These aren't fan art, so I apologize if this is wrong use, but I just couldn't wait to show off these sick songs I found yesterday!
-Studio version of The Family Secret
-Unreleased song, Mrs. Operator
-Previously leaked song, Relax
-Unreleased song, Vampire

These (except for relax) are all from the studio, they're in best quality before compression (also sorry if it downloads them instead I don't know how to get it to play straight from discord)

Cage The Elephant - Unreleased Songs

I actually found these songs today and was wondering if anyone knew about them lol

#

THANK YOU for these uploads 🙏

whole whale
#

massive CTE fan and I had no idea about these before today, thank you so much!!!

#

I've originally made a post on Reddit showing all the unreleased songs, so i'm gonna finally put them here.

#

She Want My Baby - Was supposed to end up as a track on Thank You, Happy Birthday according to Jared, but Matt couldn't come up with lyrics that he liked so they cut it from the album. They only played it (once, i think) at a show back in 2012 on a "BBC Introducing..." concert. (Song starts at 0:39. Original post on YouTube by Lance.)

#

(The) Family Secret - This one was just recently found to have a studio version. It was played for the first time around december 2017 in an Unplugged (not Unpeeled) concert with Matt, Matthan and Nick. It was later recorded in-studio in 2018 for a Social Cues release, but was cut due to it not fitting the overall tone of the album. (First video credits to John Hauer on YouTube. Second attachment is the Studio Version.)

#

Which Girl - Not a lot is actually known about this song but the fact that it was played at an Unpeeled concert in 2017. It was never really acknowledged by the band afterwards sadly.

#

The Golden Age - This one was also performed at a concert in 2021, but given a recent Instagram story on Cage The Elephant's account, This song was produced, mastered, and ready to release, with a question box "Should we release this?" with a 96% upvote rate. This song will likely be on their next studio album (hopefully this year!!!) Original video by Ben Christian on Youtube, second video is the story they've posted on IG of the upcoming studio version.

#

I'm going to take a break for now, there is still a lot of songs i need to post, so bare with me here

# low ocean She Want My Baby - Was supposed to end up as a track on Thank You, Happy Birthda...

Thank you, I really appreciate your efforts so much! ❤️

Has anyone ever tried decoding lyrics? Maybe, maybe not. But decided to try

Verse
They’re working on me, oh baby
They gather us up for blood
She says she needs it
Says she thinks she’s on the hunt tonight
She want my baby, she want my baby

(Repeat)

Outro
Crawling in the city
Down around the corner
Always on your knees

(The only thing I'm really unsure about is the first line)

low ocean
#

I think instead of "oh baby" it would be "oh no" or something

upper hinge
#

Yes he does 😭 LOL
Especially with lesser songs where lyrics are messy, he speaks in simlish

Why So Cold? - This was a song performed for a concert, Marvin Encore, and was the intro/outro tune heard in Right Before My Eyes' Unpeeled version. Some lyrics were later recycled for Tokyo Smoke. It was likely supposed to end up on Tell Me I'm Pretty, and is a fairly nice soft tune to listen to. (1st video is the concert version, second is the Marvin Encore version, and the third one is Right Before My Eyes on the Unpeeled album.) (Credits: 1-Antonette Jackson, 2-Marvin Encore, 3-Cage The Elephant)

#

Social Cues ((Hide Me In The Back Room)) - It's on Amazon Music, but not major streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music. It's a slower paced, remixed version of Social Cues which features Matt rapping at the end. It was made for their Night Running tour when tasked to create an alternate version of Social Cues.

#
  • Renamed Songs:

Stage Ninja - Early version of Love's The Only Way (This could be just fan intervention, i personally don't think they'd name it that, but i'll put it here anyway)

Maybelline - Early working name of Aberdeen (The name was changed after Matt kept rehearsing "ABERDEEN" in Scotland during a tour.)

You Got The Best Of Me Now - This was likely a VERY early version of Black Madonna, or rather a working name. This version was played at an Unpeeled concert in 2018, but nobody was permitted phones so it is lost. (There were videos in the past, but they have since been taken down.)

Pompeii - Early working name of Ready To Let Go.

  • Bands associated, or were Cage at some point in time:

Perfect Confusion (Backstory) - Perfect Confusion was a band that featured Matthew Shultz, Jared Champion, Brad Shultz, Thomas Bullen, and David Kem. In 2005, P.C would release their self-titled debut album on CD and digital streaming services, which didn't quite take off yet, Following a concert they had, an "altercation" with a mentally unstable man inspired the band to rebrand under the name "Cage The Elephant". Thomas Bullen and David Kem were not involved in this new band, rather a new bandmate would arrive. 16 year old Lincoln Parish would join the band, making his parents sign over parental guardianship to the band. - - - You can listen to Perfect Confusion on Spotify. CTE's early music was tasty af and reminds me a bit of CTE's Self Titled

Left Nostril - Matt Shultz' middle school (?) band, Unknown if they made original songs or not, this was an experimental band, and more of a trivial entry here.

Brad The Dad - Matt Shultz & Brad Shultz Jr's father, was a musician who went by the alias "Brad The Dad". (if it's confusing, their dad's name is Bradley Shultz Sr. and the one you know is Bradley Shultz Jr.) All 3 of them, Matt, Brad Jr. and Brad Sr. made an album under their dads alias called "The Dream Project". id give it a listen if i were you, it's cool

#

that's basically everything from my original reddit post, i'll be updating this too with new finds whenever that happens

#

@deep turtle would you have any (good) recording of their cover of end of beginning?

also love when matt shultz went on stage with weezer to sing "island in the sun" 😭 🙏

mental tree
#

been looking for more stuff and that hq version of the self titled eps is nice

mental tree
#

do you have these "which girl" and "my money"

low ocean
upper hinge
#

don't want to clog general

#

But I also have a question

#

How many albums do you think Cage has left? @low ocean

upper hinge
#

Not pretending you have insider info. Just into speculation talk
How many after Neon Pill?

#

I have thoughts but don't want them to sway others idk

#

xdddd

low ocean
#

Matt becoming a father to Huxley would likely weigh on production

#

In my opinion i'm fine with at the most 10 albums from Cage

upper hinge
#

I feel like their momentum is so high right now and their tour was essentially a "come back"
I feel like they're at their peak and I'm feeling hopeful
But I'm not asking for infinite content

But also two years between Neon Pill and #7 is an incredible sign for things to come

#

I'm understanding of whatever happens

#

But also dreaming is something I can't help

low ocean
#

We can talk in general

mental tree
#

2 years and already thinking they'll drop this year is a good sign

#

wasn't it like 4 year wait between the last 3 albums

low ocean
#

Social Cues’ wait was 4 years between TMIP, Neon Pill was 5 years between Social Cues

upper hinge
#

Granted,
2015 - 2019 were difficult times because of the divorce and likely other things
The next album after SC was supposed to come out much quicker. But then covid happened and other mental developments

upper hinge
#

Divorce is broad and it's typically not that simple
It's a whole array of emotion and circumstance

#

But also I wanted to look more knowledgeable than I was

#

During covid, I believe Matt was hospitalized but I'm second guessing myself because it's a big accusation

upper hinge
#

He didn't have covid. Just had medication troubles xddddd

#

anyways uhhhhh

#

no more blabbing

upper hinge
#

Or maybe I'm looking in all the wrong places

#

The best I can do is mp3

#

sry

#

I can only find 7 tracks

#

But what I can gather, there WAS an album and probably more songs

#

But it's lost to time

#

Download links and everything is gone

#

Or again, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places xd

#

But this does seem to be lost media

#

Also

#

Posting this here for the sake of completion
