Your target is anchored to the realm of life by a thread, and yet they live forever. They must be the Lich.

Alright everyone, hear me out here.

Lich
Neutral Special

Attack: Basic*
Defense: Basic*

Unique: Yes
Roleblock immune: No
Control Immune: No

Abilities:

Black Fog (☀️, 2️⃣):

  • Investigative abilities used on your Phylactery Holders tonight will hit an Unknown Obstacle.
  • Your Phylactery Holders gain Powerful Defense for the night. If attacked, they learn they were saved by a Barrier.

Wither (🌙, ♾️):

  • Deal a Basic Attack to a player.
  • If you came back to life at the start of the night, this attack is Unstoppable instead, and you will be immune to roleblocks and controls.

Attributes:

  • At the start of the game, 2 players are assigned as your Phylactery Holders. You will know their roles. They cannot be Neutral Evil, Neutral Pariah or Cursed Souls.
  • If a Phylactery Holder is directly targeted by a Town Investigative, Wildling, Potion Master (reveal), Plaguebearer, Baker (reveal), Judge or Auditor (smoke), the investigator will learn they are a Phylactery Holder.
  • If a Phylactery Holder dies, everyone learns this.
  • If you are dead and a Phylactery Holder is alive, you will come back to life at the start of the night.
  • If both Phylactery Holders die, your abilities are disabled and you die at the end of the night.

Goal: Keep your Phylactery Holders alive whilst killing everyone else.

  • The Lich wins as long as the only living players (ignoring Neutral Evil/Pariah/Cursed Soul-aligned) are Phylactery Holders and themselves. This means they can win while waiting for a self revive.

I'd argue that the lich's revive mechanic should be them becoming one of the holders, taking their name n such, and they just have to play it off and act like them

I'm sure it would be coded in game where you take the identifiers for the @ stuff, while still retaining player data to you and not someone else after that point

I just think the role just, doesn't mesh well with existing roles- also, unless lich claims they protected a holder one night, that holder is dead. No one tends to believe a barrier claim without someone saying they did it (I've had games of NKs getting voted because they couldn't explain how they didn't die)

the role is cool, sadly I just don't think the current stage of BToS roles wouldn't hold up well with this, not to mention people get upset if you make a role even remotely similar to another for some reason

I made a cult based faction suggestion, got blasted for being 'lesser' vamps, I think it's just different vamps tbh, maybe one is better than another, I still could see cases where my concept would thrive

I know this is technically going out of what this thread was meant for, but I thought it was a point to mention in reference to the whole parallel role contraversy

I might just, not know, but I'm surprised there isn't an alternative version of BToS with different roles, not saying there should be, but it's surprising (or if it exists, its not big)
