Full disclaimer, I found this originally in the Steam Community tab as a suggestion for vanilla Tos2. Link here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3084233247

tl;dr Cultist is a Neutral Veteran who evils want to attack and counters Deputy/Vigilante

ORIGINAL CREATOR's IDEA:
Defense: None
Attack: Unstoppable (on Consume)

Night Ability: Tangle
"When using Tangle, you will be forced to stay at home and gain Powerful Defense during the night.

At this state, players who attack you will gain a debuff, "Marked."

When two or more people have been marked, you can "Bless" a single marked player by visiting them.

A blessed player will no longer be marked and gain an additional Defense Point permanently. (ex. None -> Basic Defense, Basic Defense -> Powerful Defense)

After all [sic] the deed is done, all of your marked players will be consumed by an unstoppable depth creature the next day, and you will leave the town in victory.

MY SUGGESTION (in comments, linked):

"Bless ought to be a daytime ability, as you'd be pretty boned if NK dies and there is no vigi. Further, if a vigi shoots the cultist, even if coven hit the cultist, cultist would hang before being able to bless and win.

Daytime immunity to Deputy would be cool too, as Deputy is kinda OP."

MY BETTERTOS2 SPECIFIC SUGGESTION:

  • Change alignment to Neutral Pariah
  • Make Tangle a daytime ability that last through the day and night. This ability use is announced to the town.
  • Tangle gives Invincibility during the Day, and wanes through the night as Powerful Defense.
  • Deputy and Conjurer get marked just like night roles attacking.
  • Bless becomes a day ability. The target of Bless can only be seen by Spy bugs (daytime spy bug trigger?)
  • Any number of Marked targets can be Blessed
  • Consume occurs the night of the Blessed Day if the Cultist survives the night
  • The Cultist has three Tangle charges
  • Cultist has Roleblock Immunity

Steam Community: Town of Salem 2. I thought it would be nice if we had a role that is based on the story of Chuthulu.

  • Don't you think it would be fun if we had an NE(neutral evil) role that works something like a veteran, but inste
#

Might also want to allow Cultist to visit in order to be smacked by Veteran, Crusader, Jinx, Various Rampages, etc. Though, I feel as that would make the role too strong.

#

Marks dying could also count towards Bless/Consume popping (e.g. Witched Vigi getting lynched)

Bless buffing Attack and Defense by one level may be necessary to make blessing worth.

I mean, it's interesting. I'm not exactly sure what effects this would have on the game though.

If it was changed to neutral pariah, we'd have to figure out how it would help evils significantly though. Raising an evil's defense helps little in SS/ CTT / ATT, the balanced game modes.

#

Raising attack values would help Coven Leader and Conjurer, but when their opponents largely have no defense anyway outside of chaos modes, it seems like this would need a power boost.

#

Perhaps jailor invulnerability?

#

Get coven to attack you, get jailor to exe you, bless coven

#

Jailor dies if Cultist doesn't hang from that

shrewd compass
#

That's very specific and doesn't necessarily help in situations without confirmed jailor.

Fair

tiny mural

If Bless was targetable on anyone, not just marked targets

#

that could also help

shrewd compass
#

I'd have to think on it.

tiny mural
#

Neutral Pariah Arso but scarier, and it doesn't care about Deputies

#

This definitely needs fleshing out and careful thought

#

just in general

#

but I think the potential is there.

shrewd compass
#

Hiding a shit ton of information has some potential, yeah

tiny mural
#

I think the largest part of hitting Neutral at night is the fact that coven doesn't kill. In that line of thinking, popping Bless ought to remedy that killing power loss for evils.

#

Tangle working like Bloodied Veteran Alerts at night and Deputy/Conjurer immunity during the day seems to be the most intuitive. Bloodied Deputy shots and hidden Conjurer targets might be needed for consistency.

#

Evils being immune to Tangle attacks, but evil attacks still counting towards Bless counter keeps the "I want you to hit me n1" flavor of the role, since it doesn't have something like Judge's Subpoena

#

I think this idea is better than the others. It not only counter's town killing power but also kills TPLO meta even harder

#

Some scenarios:

Example 1: A jailor calls TPLO and jails an evil n1. Tangle kills a town protective and investigator, bloodying their wills. The evil can claim they were never jailed and mislynch jailor, calling them Cultist.

Example 2: Cultist fake claims Veteran. After Poisoner is passed book, they attack the Cultist. Now that Cultist has Marked coven, they can make contact and coordinate. Poisoner now claims Crusader, and knows that no town will be able to visit Cultist without dying. Poisoner creates a fake will visiting Cultist, claiming they are coordinating to save Veteran's alerts.

Example 3: Baker gives Cultist bread. As this isn't an attack, it doesn't count towards Bless. Evils are still immune to Tangle, so Baker doesn't die. Baker receives a message that they visited a Cultist who was Entangling and can coordinate further.

Example 4: Coven hits Cultist n1. Cultist and coven coordinate to bless three members by utilizing Necronomicon passing. Three coven now have basic attack on visits even without Necronomicon, in exchange for no kills for three nights. Because town let the Cultist and coven cook, majority is quickly taken.

#

Example 5: A seer suspects Cultist and Coven coordination after no n1 kills, but Tangle was activated D2 as well as D1. They call out they are visiting the two whispering suspects, before dying to Cultist. Town lynches both the evils.

#

Example 6: A psychic suspects Cultist and Coven coordination after no n1 kills, but Tangle was activated D2 as well as D1. The psychic calls out who they are visiting in case they die to Cultist. Coven, now given this information, has the Jinx ambush the target. No other town will want to visit a suspected Cultist, so Jinx is relatively safe to do this.

#

Example 7: Cultist fake claims Seer and scum reads coven D2. The Cultist busses coven D3, since there are lots of town protective claims. After being soft-confirmed as Seer, the Cultist Entangles, killing a Cleric and Bodyguard. Coven also attacks the Cultist, Marking the Necronomicon holder.

otherwise BG dying to Cultist will also screw over coven being baited in

REVISED DRAFT:

Cultist

Neutral Pariah

Defense: None, Basic (upon being Blessed)
Attack: Unstoppable (on Tangle), Basic (upon being Blessed)

Day Ability: Entangle

  • Announce to the town that Entangle was activated
  • Kill any Deputy that attempts to shoot the a Cultist who activated Entangle, while hiding the target from the town
  • Make the Cultist immune to Conjurer Meteor, hiding the meteor target from the town
  • Super-roleblocks all visitors the following night, giving the message "You were grasped by tentacles of the Deep One! You were Entangled!"
  • Deals Unstoppable Attack to all visitors except evils
  • All evil attackers gain Marked
  • When [Living Marks + Entangled Town = 3], at the soonest day, Bless all Marks and the Cultist, giving Attack and Defense upgrade
  • The Cultist may visit at night once Blessed.
  • The Cultist has three charges of Entangle

Getting rid of TPLO in unique ways is something that works if and only if most Neutral Pariahs can do it. So it's good that this does.

This is neat.

#

Bonus points for the extra lore and such.

#

This is super interesting. A role that serves to break the TPLO meta and make it so people have to play carefully.

#

amazing art... but no

#

vet sucks enough as-is

#

as do NEs as a concept

#

we dont need more NEs, let alone a neutral vet NE

#

as to the NP version...

#

all NPs have powerful ethereal defense

#

and daykill immunity is certainly... a thing

shrewd compass
#

Putting on your accursed alert just means that if you're Conjurered, it just gets skipped entirely rather than exposing you for being immune (All Neutral Pariah are immune to Conjurer already but not being exposed is still great.)

#

And it does the same thing but kills Deputy

#

I personally like the concept of an Evil Veteran.

#

It encourages people to watch their step more.

tiny mural
#

I've just remembered that reworked trickster is a thing

#

which would play nicely with this addition

#

As if a scummy person is vetbaiting, they are probably fishing for evils to attack them

#

Trickster should have some way to hard counter by itself

#

Trapper inherently just says "Screw your entire night ability" to the Cultist

#

in regards to baiting evils to attack

#

A veteran that looks scummy could be mislynched as Cultist, which I like very much

tiny mural
#

Vet OP plz nerf

#

A Vet tweak would fit nicely with Cultist

#

One less instant confirm townie

The Vet tweak is Secret Killers.
