I'm still fairly new to the server, so I'm mostly unaware of the previous discussions that has happened on this topic (altho i did a quick search and it looks very controversial) but I'd like to share my perspective on Jackal.
I was shocked to find out it was bannable to out your coven teammates as rec. It seemed natural to me that you would be able to out them cuz you don't win with the cov faction.
of course you should do it when it's benefical to do so (yes, you shouldn't out them outright day 2, though even if they did it shouldn't technically be bannable because playing suboptimally in any form isn't bannable but that's for another discussion). yes, there can be multiple situations where it benefits you to out coven. it should be treated the same as cov outing NE/NK. Now I understand why it's unhealthy and frustrating for the cov faction because there is no counterplay. if rec decides to out you, there's not much you can do about it. The Jackal role is just unhealthy and problematic. if a certain role requires you to play with special imaginary rules that doesn't apply to any other role (like criminializing the behavior of outing an opposite faction), it just shouldn't exist.
If you are so adamant about keeping him in his current state, at the very least the rules regarding recs and jackal should be made clear. if I didn't go out of my way to check out and ask around the discord server I would never know it was a bannable offense. Maybe a pop-up rule sheet can appear before when a Jackal Returns mode is selected. Not like it's very obvious, one would think it's totally okay to out a faction that's opposing them. At least that's what I think.
