No

#

It’s not really

#

Code

#

It is only simply just wire blocks and

tribal crest
#

The whole point of wiring is so that it's beginner friendly

#

Also that's just the whole point of wiring

next shell
#

please dont say no if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything

hollow siren
#

Yall want updates?? If they do coding it would take like more than a month

If you don't want people to say no, just don't post it

There is 25 coding suggestions

#

I doubt them “stealing” is wrong rn

Nah

This is bad

And added nothing else

Wiring is fine how it is

There’s also mini tech webs for beginners

and thats al

There’s just other people to teach you things

undone flint

Also that

willow trout

The devs don’t need to teach you everything and then release you into the wild

undone flint
#

If they thought you everything it would get confusing

next shell

You already have variables that is a huge upgrade

undone flint

They would’ve just added coding from the start if they didn’t want it beginner friendly

Yes it is

undone flint
#

Yeah it is

willow trout

#

You learn as you unlock the Techweb

#

You learn that you connect a wire to a input and output

#

And then get into more complex blocks farther down the Techweb

The more you unlock the more you mind expands on the games ability’s

The “Ive been playing since 1.7” doesn’t apply if you have 150 hours 😭

next shell
undone flint
#

🤦‍♂️

next shell
next shell
undone flint
#

That doesn’t change anything

#

150 hours is 150 hours

#

Regardless of the excuse

next shell
#

sometimes

undone flint
#

My claim is you saying you’ve been playing for a long time doesn’t apply if you only have 150 hours

#

I believe you played during 1.7

next shell
undone flint
#

Gang

#

I’ll put it as easily as I can

#

It doesn’t matter

#

If you have

#

Been playing

#

Since 1.7

#

If you only

#

Have 150 hours

#

Think of it this way

#

Say Ive been playing since day 1

#

But I only have 5 hours

#

It doesn’t matter that Ive been playing since day 1

#

Because I’ve barely played the game

#

Which I haven’t btw that’s just an example

next shell
#

also 220 hours

undone flint
#

Cool

#

Your role says 150

next shell
#

no it says 150+

undone flint
#

Oh my god

#

Doesn’t change anything gang

ripe grotto
#

Gang your hours dosent matter

#

read through most of the slideshow

#

most of it is compiling other ideas posted here before

#

little description too

#

anything that doesnt fall into that is either too nondescript to have any direction or is absurd

#

not to mention most of it is random stuff like making more terminal types purchasable

#

the fact it had to be shown through a slideshow instead of posted here just kinda indicates that there was no real cohesive vision to ask for

#

im also coming into this from the perspective of also wanting a coding update, albeit from the perspective of adding more capabilities to the wiring system to put it on par with the coding fundamentals in most engines (which you can see here #1499253708943261837)

#

this is to lead into the actual code blocks offered

#

now firstly the terminal appears to be a board that lets you have a programmed line of code and it spits it out as a block

#

i say that as if it makes any sense or that it would be intuitive to use at all

#

a lot of the other coding blocks are specific conditions or events that would make sense as gamerule signs or blocks in their respective tech webs like tokens

#

(which even then the token blocks offered as "coding" blocks are far too specific)

agile sky
#

there are also some blocks offered like a metronome (which we'll gloss past the fact it exists in the music tech web to denote beats or loops) which could just be easily replicated with wiring with a looping pulse or just having a pulse that goes off consistently after a point in time in a match if you want to count until a certain point

#

while i'm all for compressing commonly used circuits down into blocks both to simplify circuits and make it easier to understand for new players a lot of these dont really accomplish much nor do they do anything of note

#

im like half certain they were added because you read a specific suggestion thread halfway 2 months ago and from memory wrote down the basic premise in a sentence in the slideshow

#

also i assume you link where the suggestion threads are but if you try clicking on the section to bring you to slide 3 it brings you back to slide 1 instead so i couldnt read it

#

its not even like the ideas really make sense for a coding update and it's like 30 slides until you get to the coding blocks

#

like you have gadget mastery for no reason here

dapper ginkgo

# agile sky now firstly the terminal appears to be a board that lets you have a programmed l...

Literally the most un-intuitive way to make it

I already had a system ready for this, it used scratch blocks but to code you just placed them down in a way where they connected. Sure you could only make a code line 64 blocks long… but this forced you to optimize using loops and functions, actually making you learn those components instead of making terrible unoptimized code

Booleans and Events could work if they were like 10 a pop tho

#

That is assuming they group some, not making un-necessary ones

#

-# like instead of making a break event for every breakable block, just make one break event that can be colored

agile sky
#

and largely speaking scratch is more limited than yeeps outside of like displaying sprites and moving them

#

(which yeeps makes up for in a plethora of other places)

#

dont get me wrong you can make a lot of games and stuff with scratch but it is shocking how little there is

#

easily one of the most complicated things with scratch is organization since theres no structure or framework since theyre all embedded in different sprites and scenes and they can barely communicate with one another

#

i have a lot of respect for people who do make stuff in scratch and its a good learning tool but im just saying it's not the baseline for a longterm programming system

exotic musk
#

I mean coding just doesn't sound like how yeeps would be

agile sky
#

thats what makes wiring and the circuits its capable of so interesting

exotic musk
#

its a pillow gorilla tag movement game for 10+

agile sky
verbal glacier
agile sky
#

wiring already does that, its just not as elaborate as it could be

agile sky
#

and i was shocked to actually see how little scratch had

#

now this is largely because its designed to be way simpler and easier to understand

#

but that does tend to have some drawbacks later on

verbal glacier
agile sky
#

really all that scratch has over yeeps is display capability since its for a different purpose

#

all the logic in yeeps is there

#

and maps are stagnant

#

thats why i suggested introducing event detection and behavior changes in mine

verbal glacier
#

I don’t know what yeeps lets you do that scratch can’t do, besides vr support

-# but that’s apples to oranges

agile sky
#

i mean yeeps also has game logic with wiring its just that it cant inately interact with players without direct input from a button

#

while scratch lets you click or use keys

agile sky
verbal glacier
#

That’s how most rendering is done

agile sky
#

i mean yeah that lets you draw a sprite

verbal glacier
#

I don’t even remember the last time I used scratches sprite renderer

They just let you make your own and do anything you program in

agile sky
#

i mean yeah im not really trying to compare yeeps in terms of visuals with scratch since that interface is largely different

#

player movement and inputs are already handled and you build the maps yourself

verbal glacier
agile sky
#

thats why im focusing on the logic aspect

#

im aware but comparing that is the apples to oranges

#

so its more useful to look at logic

#

like if theres if statements or logic gates

verbal glacier
#

Yeeps makes it easy to make stuff, but that doesn’t mean it’s less limited than scratch

#

Outside of rendering, the physics engine is all open to you, player movement and interaction + input are also all up to you

agile sky
#

its less limited from a logic perspective

verbal glacier
#

Also scratch allows for all logic gates to my knowledge

#

Because it has || , && , and ! They are can be made

bright lark
#

we don’t need coding

#

Wiring is supposed to be simple

agile sky
#

wiring is already complicated

#

we have d latches

#

also this coding update offered sucks

bright lark
verbal glacier
#

Worst way to implement coding yet

bright lark
#

when wiring first came out I already knew everything because I’m just like that.

agile sky
#

should they add more wiring blocks instead of adding coding blocks

verbal glacier
bright lark
#

Well there is some

agile sky
verbal glacier
agile sky
#

the coding blocks is a bit of a lie but it does add a major element of coding

#

which wiring doesnt have yet

#

STILL WIRING BLOCKS

#

object referral, event signals, and behavior changes

#

all individual wiring blocks

#

instead of one giant new system that doesnt work with preexisting circuits

bright lark
#

I still want invisible barriers tho ngl

agile sky
#

its better to make the wiring system more powerful than add a new one

bright lark
agile sky
bright lark
#

no

#

bad reason

#

also In creative invisible barriers would be visible so it would be easy to see in creative

verbal glacier
#

Even the portal map did

bright lark
#

It’s a barrier

#

a big one

#

and I don’t want invisible glass that’s bad

#

I want invisible team barriers

#

Well they don’t have to be team ones

#

Just normal ones will do

agile sky
verbal glacier
# bright lark it not glass

It was glass day one of the update, the first thing I did was touch it

Same with mountain pass or whatever it was called

agile sky
#

its not like the wiring system isnt capable of representing coding or the flow that a program reads from its code

verbal glacier
#

It was not a barrier

bright lark
#

Well then they changed it

agile sky
#

both that they should be wiring blocks because that's how yeeps coding works

#

but also what coding fundamentals that yeeps still needs

#

i do appreciate that the code blocks in this thread are explicitly stated and not just like Add coding lol it'll be like scratch

#

its just that most of them just arent actual coding

verbal glacier
agile sky
#

well as i stated before we still need object referral, event signals, and behavior changes

#

theres likely more but that gets into advanced territory

#

that usually makes up the bulk of coding outside of the logic itself

#

and for event signals it does actually exist in the game atm

#

with daily quests and achievements

#

it is detecting when actions are made in yeeps but community world creators dont have access to it

#

despite that information being incredibly useful when making minigames

next shell
#

Brush I just got out from school

agile sky
#

yeeps often adds them themselves in official maps too with the varying ports on the sides of blocks

verbal glacier
agile sky
#

gamemode signs have up to 4 ports dedicated to detecting events

agile sky
#

ideally it should be a fundamental thing you understand if thats how the structure of the project is

#

and a fundamental thing you learn

#

coding fundamentals is just a fuzzy term it could be cut off at any point

#

zero clue what a regex is but some sites say it falls under a coding fundamental

#

even so it's a very important part of game programming that does exist in the game so it'd be nice to see it be given to players

#

now THATS how you suggest a new coding feature

verbal glacier
#

OOP does add to these

agile sky
#

yknow what i might be mixing up engine fundamentals and coding overall

#

since game engines are kinda built for the objects to be organized and as such object oriented programming is usually whats intended for those engines to work

verbal glacier
#

Yeah, but most people use OOP anyways so that makes logical sense

agile sky
#

either way distinguishing objects in code and detecting the behaviors they do is a major aspect of game development

#

which is more of a signal thing than a method thing since methods exist in the same script

#

you can add methods from other scripts to other scripts though its quite weird

verbal glacier
#

Also params in those methods

agile sky
#

i mean yeah but for yeeps' purposes its all boolean

verbal glacier
#

All data types are bools if you think about it

agile sky
#

just a lot of them

verbal glacier
#

What isn’t?

agile sky
#

the constant...

#

but how do you define a constant?

#

booleans...

#

It all comes back

verbal glacier
#

Evil bool

#

Ig super positions aren’t bools

#

Quantum computers break bools
