Drifters being built by someone named Flint, the IAA (Inorganic Athlete Association) being formed, the drifters being sent off into space on the orion to broadcast games back to earth.
Then an event called "The Frag" happened where all systems shut down for an unknown period of time and almost all data got corrupted. There is no sign of earth anywhere, the orion is in uncharted territory.
Only one bot survived the frag by growing corn in a secret vault for energy. All the drifters slowly woke up over time, until a huge energy surge from the crystal in the parkour district woke up everyone, which was the game's opening.

The Drifters are not human consciousness inside a robot body. The humans did not leave earth before building the orion.

yeeps 1.0 and 2.0 are completely different dimensions, 1.0 being the human's world because we are smaller than the map size, like blue house and starter house. when we traveled to 2.0, it was a dimension that fit our size, like the gnome castle

If the robots you speak of are supposed to be the Drifters from Orion Drift, then this does not line up with the already existing official orion drift lore, which consists of hundreds of pages of information.

Maybe the portal built in the gnome dimension was already that size, so they had to match it for it to work properly.
Or maybe it was poor planning.
Or maybe it had to be that size for maximum stability.
There's lots of reasons, and just cause the gnomes built one big thing doesn't mean they can't build small things as well

Portals aren't exclusively for going to other dimensions. (Example: The fishing map in yeeps, which at one point connected to the volcano in adventure, and had portals connecting to it)
