News Flash: Reporting players through discord and email (wish I was joking 🤢) is terrible! We need to remove this meta and fix this system…
What’s actually wrong with this system?: 1. What if the person doesn’t have discord or doesn’t operates an email, what are they supposed to do? get their parents to make the report? That’s inefficient. 2. What if the situation progresses? I just got off to make that report (cuz opening the web browser on headset turns the thing into a fire hazard) so now I’ve just lost on potential evidence to ensure their ban… this happened to me once btw, some other kid got the person doing something even way worse that I missed, it wasted moderation time. 3. Speaking of evidence, why is it so hard to get evidence? Half the people don’t know the shortcut for video so they could’ve just missed out on the act.
How to fix these problems, a step by step guide by ease of implementation:
• 1. In-game reports: Imagine a kid says a very unkind word, instead of… getting off your headset > going to a device with discord > going to the report channel > making a thread with the user name you wrote down or took a ss of > filling out the report reason > then finally submitting… what about instead we do this: go to the users leaderboard > press report > make a report explanation > check ‘include VoicePatrol’ > and submit. Any yeep can do it, once a mod views it (new discord bot) they will send a message of the result in-game. Done. Keep in mind this wouldn’t replace reports where more context in needed, only voice instances where context is already considered by voice patrol.
• 2. Going off of that, why stop at just voice patrol? We have the ability to take in-game screenshots for a reason, let’s capitalize on it! The in-game cameras have a new function + they now have their own tab in the inventory! Along with checking to use VP, why not let the user upload a photo (taken with no unnecessary count down) or maybe even an audioless video to the report as well? they don’t have to leave anymore so they can capture it all! Sure some compression might be necessary, but as long as you can make out what’s happening that’s fine. Now reports might actually need a second reply to add context and what not, so now the mods could do that! You would get a in-game prompt of what the moderator is asking or wants, and you choose to reply or ignore… if you ignore a new button on the leaderboard would show all of your reports which you can choose to view/resume or cancel if you didn’t find it actually against the rules. Maybe with a discord sync you could even view your reports from in-game to improve that system too! (discord reporting would still exist ofc, sometimes people want to chat with a mod on edge cases for example instead of just trying to get a report done like most people)
• 3. Captures: Imagine you try to record someone doing something but they stop before you can capture it, what if the game had captured everything and could be sent in the report just like that? Captures would be off by default, a setting only enabled by player choice. Whenever you get repeated hit, voice patrol detects someone being bad, or when someone starts destroying your blocks in wilds, it starts recording your view. Then on the report screen you can view and use that capture (or a previous one) to add to the report.
This wouldn’t be something we would see in an update, but something bigger built down the road
