Shields getting nerfed was actually really good for PvP, before, you could tank as much damage and not get killed at all, but now they are more focused on blocking high damage stuff.

I kind of remember doing the mace + broom + air blaster tech and some random dude would somehow perfectly react to my maces, and when I did Fire Axe + Flare, he would shield at me, then shield downwards whenever the fire damage kicked in, so ATLEAST shield’s got a pretty big nerf to it.

the most annoying part was that the shield disabling was rng so you couldnt predict it

i would like to see a visual change for when shields get damaged, maybe some cracks in the shield to show durability

and when it gets fully disabled it could explode into a puff of cotton to better convey that its broken

but now they can be properly countered

theyre also still good items because blocking 10 hits for the price of 500 cotton is objectively a good tradeoff, you just limit your other hand being used for another weapon

if the shields would need to be buffed at all it'd be giving them new functionality like a shield bash or shield surfing instead of their blocking ability

but theyre fine as is now imo

shields should just cause you to take half damage and knockback or smth while active, and then put a lock on your player from having a shield held for the next x amount of time to prevent constantly having one

like if you have one held, it drops, if you pick one up, it doesn't let you, etc.

then they'd not only no longer be annoying, they'd actually be interesting to use

there also shouldn't be select items that can counter them, as that makes gameplay boring and encourages people to use the same 3 items
