Better BAM Judging

BAM Judging sucks. It has gotten a lot better since last bam, but it still feels kinda rigged. They say the factors for judging are thing like fun, playability, and detail, but they basically care ONLY about detail. Take a look at finalist 1 for example, the detail is AWESOME, but the gameplay is just kinda mid. That’s basically how it goes for every bam, but the first few were actually GOOD. Now look at the winners for 17, 18, and 19. Detail is great, but the gameplay is just mid. I made a pretty fun map with decent detail, and didnt even get honorable mentions. If you’re seeing this Nathan please try to put more effort into thinking about fun and playability instead of glazing over detail.

The map is very bland in a sense that is basically just looks kinda like level one of Yeeps horror and the devs look for more creative looking maps

It also just looks like the same rooms for almost the entire map besides it’s painted a different color tho i do like the end + the shelve design

Not to be rude, but losing doesn’t mean it’s rigged. Especially when your map is a knockoff (for lack of a better term) of a ‘game,’ made within a game that doesn’t have the best reputation.

It was four boxes that were kind of boat shaped, and the map was so poorly made that you could easily jump to the giant title at the back.

All of those things are considered. Even if your map has the best attention to detail out of anything from all the submissions, it still would’ve lost. All you do is walk through rooms, again and again.

Still, from what I have seen, the whole thing does bring extremely well made builders into the spotlight. That’s really the whole point, to give recognition to those who have worked with the game’s mechanics, and to let those people show off. It’s not about the competition itself, but the ~~ friends we made ~~ maps we saw along the way.

I agree, BAM is rigged. I made a map that was made entirely out of 1x1 wooden blocks, then asked Chat GPT to generate a maze layout that I cut into it with a chainsaw. Then I made it have the pitch black lighting without the flashlight sign. Then I banned the stuffed flashlight and flashlight helmet and added every monster. After spending so long making it, no body played it and it wasn’t even eligible for submissions.

I just wanna say my opinion, but yeah I dont think your map is finaliste potential, because of the originality and it kinda look like the horror lvl. Also yes détail dosent need to be that big, but your map dosent even have a little bit.

Take a look of my map, I only got mentioned and Its really good.

What I mean is doing original is very sélective. If you want some tips here two.
1: dont build the map for you, think like everyone whill play it and see it.
2: dont build like a community world and dont make everything perfect with slab, build a little bit like it would be in real life.

2. Yes game play may be bad BUT that’s because they can’t just change monster mode to the players having a minigun.

3. Your map is based of DOORS. Again they matter in detail + gameplay. Multi door maps have existed. And the gameplay in your map is basic.

tbh that map looks bad, no offence, but the details aren't even really passable on most parts, the gameplay looks boring and basic, and it's not really original. (I'm not hating to hate, I've also put hours and hours into my BAMs, yet never made top 25 or honorable mentions. You really just need to do it for fun, that's how you get enjoyment out of it)

Cause that’s all they can feasibly judge on, so it will be the biggest factor, no matter what. And that’s fair, most people care about good looking maps winning over fun maps. Cause it’s a comp if building skill. Either way tho, they didn’t just pick detailed maps, 2 is a really simplistic but fun map. And 3 is an objective based one
