My take on the p2w argument:
Unlocking things in a skill-tree system allows new players to learn at their own pace, with achievements and weekly item quests letting you get more for doing more. The slightest effort from a new player lets them do what they need to. The suburbs tech-web, which is regarded as the beginning tech-web, is literally split into different sections so players can explore the specific areas of the game that a new player should be familiar with. Going up gives you some mobility gadgets and blocks, going to the bottom right gives you offensive items, bottom left is more support based things like pillow plants and smoke bombs. As for the in between branches there’s basic building (down), world editing (up left), and detailed building (up right). It’s not p2w just because it’s hard to get everything quickly, it’s progressing through different mechanics so that by the time you have the final item(s) that uses said mechanic, you’re already fully familiar with how it works.

They do an unfair amount of damage, they hit you multiple times if you’re against a wall or take enough knock back to get hit again, and they’re really easy to spam.
