Not taking Enough Action
We are sorry to hear that your friend has gone through that. We are always on the watch to take action against all kinds of forms of harassment; however, we cannot take action without evidence. Most of the time, we can find out and proactively take action on similar cases even before receiving reports on those players, but in some cases, we do need additional evidence to be able to understand the nuances and context in which some words/actions take place. If you are ever harassed or disrespected, please start recording immediately, and then tell the player to stop (while recording) so we can see how the situation develops. Then open a #🚨・game-reports and share the evidence with us. We will be happy to assist and take action against anyone who might be breaking the rules.
If our system fails to catch someone (for not-so-obvious rule breaks such as slurs), having this "complete" evidence against them will almost guarantee that they are going to be caught.
Failing to Educate the Community
To go along with the ToS, we have the in-game guidelines where the dos and don'ts are written down so every single player can see them. We have updated both the ToS and the guidelines multiple times to ensure the rules are well-written and easy to understand, but we do understand that some of them can be misinterpreted.
Based on our experience with different ways to display our rules, and after exploring a variety of ways to share our rules and communicate the guidelines, the in-game guidelines have proven to be the very best way to communicate and align our expectations with our players.
We can proudly say that our community is very well educated about the rules for the most part. It is very hard to find on other platforms or games, in which the community knows the rules as much as they do in Yeeps.
We know it is not perfect, and we are always hearing the community feedback and continuously working on improvements, which is part of the reason why we moved away from straight-up bans to mutes in some cases, so we could teach our community what is or isn't right, without completely blocking the players from playing the game for a one-time mistake. For those who have been playing Yeeps long enough, they have probably noticed how we have changed our approaches over time.
Despite our best efforts to display the guidelines in the lobbies next to the main board, making it almost impossible for one to miss it, we know that it's not always being read or seen by a few players. It's not their fault, but overall, the results are great.
Some answers to other comments I read in the thread
We are always actively working on improvements, and our goal is to have a safe community where our players and their spaces are respected. What may be a joke to one, might be extremely offensive to another person, so always be respectful, and stop when you are told to.
Yeeps has grown a lot throughout the months, but we are still a small company, so it might take us some time to get to your ticket and appeal. If you feel like you aren't being answered, don't hesitate to ping one of the <@&1307120450383384677> members into your ticket, or email us at [email protected]; it can take a few hours or even a day or two, but we will get to it. If your ticket automatically closes without an answer, please make a new ticket, and we will answer it.
If you believe your ban/warn was false, always appeal it at #⛔・game-appeals or [email protected] - as in everything in life, there can be mistakes, and if a ban was in fact invalid, we will remove it upon the appeal.
If you reported a player and had no actions taken against them, or they were just warned when it felt like it should have been a ban, that means we either had zero evidence to go with the report, or we didn't have enough evidence to give it a ban.
I hope I was able to answer some questions. Feedback is always welcome, and we appreciate it
