If you wanted to make a map, but didn’t want to use wood and wanted to give it like a pillow texture then that would come in handy

This is a customizability option, the map maker would use it to their advantage, not disadvantage.
Imo, there could also be a no greifing sign rule, that would be a fun idea for maps.
