So, I'm probably going to age myself a bit by saying this, but anyway - I used to be a pretty big comics fan when I was a kid, but I kinda quit reading marvel comics shortly after the Spider-Man: One More Day storyline ended. Is there any good way to catch up with what's changed since then? I recognize most of the characters in this game's roster, but as far as the comics go in general I have no idea what the main titles are anymore and which characters/teams are still relevant

I have no idea what the other person means, Marvel very much still has an active continuity that has never been rebooted. Just picking up a #1 will always be good advice though.

Probably my big favourite back in the day was x-men, though I'm also kinda curious how the great lakes avengers turned out - I would have thought they'd have faded into obscurity but squirrel girl is in this game so I guess at least some of them must have maintained some relevance.

I also used to really be into the marvel 2099 comics (particularly spider-man 2099 and doom 2099), as well as ultimate universe timeline (particularly ultimate fantastic four and ultimate iron man) but I don't think either of those are around anymore

The X-Men just started a new era, the core titles being Uncanny X-Men by Gail Simone and X-Men by Jed Mackay. The previous Krakoa era is also worth checking out, it starts with House of X/Powers of X by Jonathan Hickman.

The Great Lakes Avengers have kinda faded into obscurity, but Squirrel Girl got a great solo run by Ryan North.

The original Ultimate Universe ended a while ago, but a new completely different one just started and all the titles are great so far. Basic concept is that The Maker from the original Ultimate Universe finds a universe similar to 616, goes back in time and cripples all potential superhero threats before they get powers, and shapes this universe to his liking.

I noticed the year 2099 gets mentioned a few times in this game, is it related to marvel 2099 or is that timeline still pretty much dead and buried?

Comics 2099 is a different situation than Marvel Rivals 2099. Rivals 2099 seems to be more of a natural extension of the original timeline rather than an ultra-futuristic one. Though the settings is reminiscient of comics 2099 with Alchemax and techno-dystopian style antagonists like Public Eye, the characters themselves are basically just extensions. Widow and Punisher took longevity super soldier serums to live until this year.

Basically, not the same as comics 2099. Punisher is still Frank Castle, Cap only gets unthawed in the 2080s, and Peni Parker is the Spider-Man of Tokyo 2099.

Oh I didn't even count those, since we know nothing about them yet.

It's mainly due to the fact there's a good amount of characters who are explicitly from a separate timeline, or seem to be disconnected from the others, like Wanda, Magik, Hulk, Lin Lie, Luna Snow and Namor, etc.

Half of the fallout is solved in Messiah Complex iirc, but I haven't read that era yet, and the other half is solved just recently in the Krakoan era. Krakoa is great and I've heard good things about the Messiah trilogy, so they might be worth checking out.

Rivals is completely separate from the comics, but 2099 actually did get a few miniseries recently. No idea if they're any good though.

this loki is based on the comics, not the show. however! i think there’s more to him trying to get the chronovium in the world tree. if you play on one of the convergence maps you can uncover a mural of loki doing something with the main actors of ragnarok

The show isn't where Loki comes from, and like Murk said he's based more on the comics. Currently he's king because using the Chronovium fused into Yggdrasil he saw the future and the only one where Asgard survived was one where he was king, so he staged a coup.

For this transition, I believe Doom will pull somethig which freezes all of time and we'll have a picture or, if we're lucky, a set piece that we can move around in which has certain story elements while they set up season 1 in the background.

probably should be close to TF2 Man vs. Machine but with more missions. Helldivers are pretty limited when it comes to weapon choices. (Speaking as a player of both HD1 and HD2) So it would mean certain characters will be very obsolete against certain enemies. in MVM everyone can contribute to the team in a certain way.

From what I understand about the kylntar map, shuri asked the guardians to investigate the planet and now they're fighting to keep the king in black sealed, but venoms there also fighting to keep him sealed too and yet it seems like the guardians and venom are opposed? On the win for “delivering Knull’s essence”, you see the guardians successfully sending it down a hole, which is presumably where Knull is sealed. Now personally I think they’d join Adam’s quest, but it’s possible they’re led astray and thought that doing this would work against Knull. Or, maybe delivering his essence down the hole is a good thing and not helping Knull. Who knows?

Not everything is intrinsically linked to the Dooms. Klyntar stuff is about freeing/keeping Knull sealed. Yggsgard is about stopping Loki's plans for the World Tree's sap or alternatively protecting that operation. Tokyo 2099/Spider Islands is about assisting Spider-Zero in stopping the Master Weaver's plan, or stopping her from stopping him. Wakanda is about stopping or assisting Symbiote Bast's corruption of the Wakandan space.

Well, Doom 2024 caused the Timeline Entanglement, it doesn't mean he has any control over it or any of the events caused by it. The Dooms are more of a premise than anything. Doom '24 is currently involved with Dracula in Vampire NYC. Doom '99 is.. definitely up to something, since he says he's manipulating certain people to do his work for him.

It's not that their ignoring Doom, they're letting him build up. Currently he's nowhere near as much of a threat as Knull.

canonically, i think the klyntar map is basically the GotG landing on the surface and escorting Knull’s essence underground because they were hired by Shuri. Is Venom trying to stop them? He’s clearly been living there for quite a while. It would make more sense for Venom to not want to awaken Knull, right? Are the Guardians and Shuri mistaken in their objective?

Have you read the character stories or..? Venom is explicitly there to stop Knull if you've read his story "Betray the Umbra". He teams up with Adam Warlock once he arrives there. The Guardians haven't met that duo yet according to character lore, but it's likely they have the same objective.

GotG weren't hired to stop Knull, they were hired to investigate the planet's surface.

If you read the in game stories attached to the gallery, the timelines we fight in are the ones that Galacta has preserved to make sure that all of reality doesn't get destroyed. No reality = no food for her. She watches us fight while munching on Chronovium. Due to the effort it takes to maintain timestreams from collapsing, all she can do is watch and comment.

Krakoa got sucked from 2024 Mars to 2099 Earth, so that makes Magneto, Storm, Wolverine. Scarlet Witch, Magik, and Psylocke then answered Magneto's call for Mutants, which makes them present in this timeline

Bucky and Hawkeye were in HYDRA Charteris Base in 2024 when they were rescued by Cap in Wakanda 2099 via portal

That's all I've gathered so far

I guess Jeff the Land Shark is in 2099 too since the Collector Theme Park is also in 2099 considering Mantis went to Klyntar to save the GotG and Psylocke went to Krakoa because of Magneto's recall (after the three of them escaped the Theme Park)

We know Wakanda has access to inter-chronoversal travel through Wolverine's story, in which he gets Cap from 2099 to Wakanda through a portal. It's also more likely Wolverine is from Krakoa's original timeline, which seems to be the same timeline as Luna Snow and Namor? It's a possibility. I think we can also fuse Lin Lie's timeline with Krakoa's OG timeline since he has a voice line with Luna Snow about a "getting the band back together" thing for the Agents of Atlas.

@tribal bobcat Storm is from a different timeline than the rest of Krakoa. She comes from a timeline where Xavier is alive, and she was on Arakko on Mars when the Entanglement happened. Arakko and Krakoa almost merged and destroyed, she controlled the temporal storm to separate them and glide Krakoa into 2099 to safety. Unfortunately, she stayed on Krakoa instead of Arakko, and is separated from her original timeline.

In the comic chapter 1, Spider-Zero and Master Weaver are good, but have different views on how to save the Web of Life. As a result, Peni Parker is on Spider-Zero's side and Peter Parker is on Master Weaver's side. In the game, however, it is said that Master Weaver became evil. He wants to use the energy of time to become even more powerful. To stop Master Weaver, Spider-Zero summoned all the Spideys.
In the loading screen of the Tokyo 2099 map, however, we are again told to help Master Weaver save the Web of Life and stop Spider-Zero. I think something got mixed up. At this point I have to mention that I've only read chapter 1 of the comic and the "comic" in the game. I haven't read Peter Parker's or Peni Parker's lore yet.

I think this is really wrong. Krakoan Magneto was definitely more peaceful, but he wasn't someone to be messed with. Thanos's father punches a hole in his chest, and this version of Magneto uses his control over the iron in his blood to keep it pumping around his body, keeping him alive until the day was won, where he then died.

He's calling the X-Men because in this timeline he understands the need for all mutants to work together, and the X-Men of Krakoa are there to protect all mutants, no matter the timeline or place of origin, or even if they're evil.

The thing with this Magneto, is we won't find out how powerful he really is until he thinks Krakoas future is secure, because then he'll be able to go all out consequences be damned to end the threat.

It's unclear. Star Lord, Groot, Rocket (and Mantis later on) just want to escape Klyntar to report what they found to Shuri, but they're forced to stay and (potentially) stop Knull before they can leave since they're unable to.

Venom and Adam Warlock metup on the corpse of the Celestial in it's orbit, and joined up to defeat Knull.

And yet, you get the Venom win-screen when stopping the essence of Knull, and you get the Guardians win-screen when you deliver it. It's really just unclear.

I don't think that's correct. If you read his lore, (or it might be scarlet witch's lore), he reaches out to a scarlet witch who is sorceress supreme, and she frees him from the astral plane

Also, just paying attention to the little cutscenes at the start of each map, the win or loss screens, and voice lines between characters. And finally, the Gallery tab (which you should have filled out) has little comics that have lore included with them. If you didn't fill it out, I can DM you them.

That's fair, though from what I can tell they prepare well ahead of time. And they've given themselves plenty of material to work with by mentioning characters in voice lines, stories, etc. Basically every mutant is on the table due to Magneto's "To me, my X-Men" call from Krakoa 2099. Morbius from Spidey's voice lines. Other symbiotes, potentially. Anyone related to K'un Lun. Shuri, or even Bast herself in symbiote form since she's humanoid in that form and has a full design. Galacta...? Though likely in the far future on that one. Etc. etc.

It's not a theory lol, that's what happens in Spider-Man's story. He gets captured by Dracula after he shows in NYC at the end of his investigation. He, Johnny Storm and Spidey are chilling until Dracula comes, fights them all, defeats them, and takes Blade with him.

Dracula also attacks Ratatoskr in Squirrel Girl's story, though it's less clear on if he took Ratatoskr with him or if she managed to disappear.

Many people are saying you will get banned for using mods and many people are saying you can’t get banned for using mods. Which is right? Is there an official post or statement saying either?

Yes You can get banned. The people saying you can't just haven't had it happen to them yet.

The devs have said it's bannable. Visual mods, performance mods it doesn't matter. The game won't differentiate it will see them all the same and trigger the ban. #game-news message for the post on modifying the game.

Seen that post and it’s a shame most people don’t even know the context of that post. They were telling people that because people were going into the files and adjusting the mouse accel setting that was not available to adjust in game. This was causing people lots of problems for their game and so they made a post about it. It has nothing to do with cosmetic or fps mods.

That’s why it says “optimizing this for future updates” basically meaning they are going to add a mouse acceleration setting. Did you really think they would optimize cosmetic modding for people?

The post is for that, and including mods. There's really no other way of putting it. It's up to the individual if they want to risk getting banned it's simple as that and this is narrative chat, if you need any help regarding that sort of info you can #contact-mod and maybe they can further assist you on weather mods are bannable or not.

I have an idea for a gamemode for Marvel Rivals!

It's a gamemode divided by 5 players, as usual. The map is Sokovia. The teams are split into heroes and villains.

The villains have to try and detonate the bomb by the end of the game to destroy Sokovie. The heroes have to try and deactivate the bomb before the end of the game.

Throughout the game, Sokovia is slowly flying into the air. It's kind of like secure the circle but with Sokovia.

What do you think? Anything that should be removed or added?
