He are some general rules of thumb for canon. Never approach with sair cause the moves hit box is behind your hurt box so the enemy will always have priority and cancel your sair. Usually approaching with nlight is the best option because it comes out quickly and it has good range. After that just try and look for a read. If they dodge up for example you can chase dodge to the ground and slight sair recovery. If they dodge in you can chase dodge behind them and sair slight sair recovery.

Your general game plan should be to look for nlight and try to get a read after. And once they’re in red kill with dlight nair

an extremely good tip i get and give a lot is to optimize your movement so that everything you do has a purpose. I'm seeing a lot of situations here where your opponent whiffs but you backdashed for no reason (or threw out an attack) and put yourself out of punishing range. to avoid having to backdash and put yourself in recovery frames that often, focus on your spacing so that you're not ever in a position where they can hit you.
