#Mod creation/ server limitations

great question! Monetization on servers is a big thing for games like rust, dayz etc.
It also is one of those topics that can kill the hype for a game. As if the rules are too strict like with arma 2 servers just end up ignoring the rules or never lasting long.
Even then with dayz the paid mods all are actually against the rules but yet they still exist with almost nothing that the studio can do about it.
definitely a balance to be struck for sure, I hated the servers with donation kits and P2W mechanics on Rust
idk if they still exist these days
they do but not to the same extream
it used to be crazy
in dayz all dono items must be avalible to players who dont dono
but the reality is if someone wants to make thier server pay 2 win that attracts those who want to play pay 2 win.
I will put mods directly on Nexusmods, so no I won't charge anything for it.
And the framework will be free as well. Why would you want to charge people for mods?
My guess is that because you put work into it youd want something back
Nexusmods is enough to earn cash.
Nah I won't proceeding talking about it, cause this makes me already really aggressive and annoyed.
Btw modding is a hobby not a job.
I didnt say thats how it should be but that would be one way of coming to the conclusion to charge people for it
I get that, i dont know much about modding except I am thankful for other people to dedicate their time and effort for free
when it comes to "paid" mods I more see it as custom comission type stuff.
I hate the paid mod markets that dayz has
but I do think it should be acceptable to pay someone to make a mod for you.
I am not one for making a mod just to sell it to other people though it seems to pop up none stop these days. Even the fallout games have paid curated modpacks =/
I hate how codeflink has done it
Pay 20 bucks for a simple train script
Like that, commissions no issues or like donations. Not at all,.but when you have to pay to unlock cool things. That's not why am building an API anyways. I'll shut it immediately lol
@loud crane glad we are on the same page about paid mod stuff.
I was scared already
@crystal heron Can we get the studio input here?
Still i think, getting an answer so early, like not sure if it make sense doe.. many thoughts needs to be done on this topic
It really did 😂 😭
Yeah as @loud crane just said, its honestly super tricky to make the call this early, as modding isn't even in the game yet, I personally don't hate the idea of mod creators being able to get paid for their hard work, yeah I'm also not a fan of when games provide extremely strict TOS which kills servers trying to make money, servers are expensive as hell... On the flip side yeah, P2W servers are in my oppinion a little lame as it does kinda ruin the fun & can get very out of control, I think there is a good middleground honestly, where both players & mod developers/server admins can benefit
Hey just haveing a basic idea such as the opinion that you want both modders and server owners to be able to get a slice is huge. Only was pushing as alot of games these days blind side the community when modding come out with a "No you cant do anything to get money at all" and then there is all sorts of chaos over it.
Hell one game set up extreamly strict rules with arbitrary restriction of "any none trival advantage" to dissable any and all progress in the 100% coop game where 90% of the progress is cosmetics. The game also has no micro transactions. The game had a greate budding modding community then they released that and the modding community told them get bent and just abandoned the game. =/
Yeah o know happens litterally all the time
Lots of the time so they can release their own paid content and have no competition
Not a fan lol
Miss breaking TOS is of course a different story if your ripping things off etc, but yeah it’s so incredibly strict sometimes
another huge thing is steamworks support to make joining modded servers easier. That also adds in the steamworks tos for mod distribution
When official modding comes. This is 100% yep!
Only or additionally?
Cause steamworks is a pain in the ass. Also every mod uses "numbers" as name won't really be nice. I don't like steamworks.
Uhhhh multiple could work, it is really great having everything in 1 place though
I won't like steamworks at all. Cause it makes no sense, its easy to use yes, But its bad to use for modders...
Hmm ok, well feel free to walk me through what you dont like about it 🙂
When the time comes you Padawan I will 🫡
