Yeah, I have a lot of beef with the weapon crates.
-My suggestion would be to leave weapon crates in as a custom option, at the very most. And to leave the original gameplay as the default-
The scramble to get weapons at the start is what -quickly- sets the playing field for each player and how they have to approach their role as employee or dissident. I think it's one of the main ingredients of the game that makes it such a good social deduction game. The way it was, each round is different and often the dissident has to find a different way to win that isnt always just getting to a gun quick and blasting away.
Having a hard time finding any upside to the weapon crates. There's still a scramble for weapons, just now it takes triple the amount of time. There's much less social deducting happening each game, and it's just a race to open weapon crates more than anything else. And by the time they're open, there's not enough time to complete the remaining tasks and/or weed out the dissident.
It feels like Weapon Crates were added to fix a problem that wasnt a problem, and pretty much just made each game more linear and repetitive, which I dont think is something I'm looking for in a social deduction game. Overall it feels like the addition is a step in the opposite direction of the game's actual genre.
Personally: The funnest game I've played in months just became not fun anymore overnight. And I'm not a happy employee about it :C
