Ok, I’ve been playing this game for a while, and noticed earlier that if you change the difficulty you can’t go back. Is that still a thing? Like I started on intermediate, and dropped to easy to beat a boss, then couldn’t go back to intermediate. I then changed to expert because I didn’t want to be reliant on the parry assists. Now I can’t beat moon maiden, but don’t want to drop difficulty because I don’t want to get stuck. Any suggestions

No, you should be able to change difficulty freely up and down any time. The only exception is Legend difficulty that you can get with new account/character only during its creation and if you ever lower from it - you can’t return to it

If you currently experience any restrictions like going back to recommended from story or smth - it is likely a bug worth reporting

Parry assist is independent setting which you can enable if you play on story or recommended. If you don’t like it you can disable it even on lower difficulty

It is below the difficulty setting in the same section. Could be the game tries to be smart about it and enables it by default when you lower it (it also sometimes suggests it if you are in a section of the story which heavily relies on it) but you can always change it separately.
