After the capture of Langzhou. Yanzhao was already a bit sick, what drove his illness further is his rivalry with Li Chuyun (李處耘). Every time Yanzhao's subordinate makes a mistake Li would execute them directly. That made him sicker and eventually died in 964.

at the time he was also give the role of 肩輿即戎事 (basically handling the military affairs) by Emperor Taizu
