Magic can be casted with magical implements like staves, wands, orbs, and rings as well as materials consumed in the process that are used as components for spells, verbal and somatic (hand gestures) "components" for lack of a better word, glyphs/runes and magical circles, it can be a studied branch of science/art or it can come from someone's heritage. And that's just to name the most commonly touched upon areas, if you were to search a list of the most unique magical system you'd probably find more in depth rulesets with twists on what people could perceive to be magic
