By principle aow is a game where you pick a school, role play as some wuxia warrior and get thrown into the world to do whatever. On paper it sounds generic, but in actual fact its much deeper. There's no such thing as levels in this game, only internal skills which give you your stats and your passive effects. There's also the meridian system which gives you freedom to build your character based on what type of damage you wanna do etc. At around mid game however, you'll realise that there are 2 meridians that permanently boost your power based on how many internal skills you have collected and maxed. This will affect your damage output and defense regardless of whether it's pve, pk or pvp. So at the very end of the game, you would hypothetically have all your internal skills maxed. And then you have your martial art sets, which define your entire playstyle. A lot of the top tier sets are p2w. The value in which we get from playing aow is switching between sets and killing each other. That's it. Pve is pathetic in aow, it's a pk game through and through.

If you don't have p2w that means everyone has access to everything. You would have everyone nuking each other with dragon palm, flower prince and shengmei secret tactics (ultimate tier sets) and no one would have any individuality whatsoever. And a lot of people have a problem with this because the experience would be entirely compromised. Not everyone is meant to have these sets, it's what makes pk exciting. When you see an enemy dragon palm user come and you recognise their ign because of it you know that they're terrifying, you know how to react. If everyone has access to and grinded for the set 99% of the hundreds of martial art sets would be entirely obsolete. It'll remove the joy out of fighting because what you've done is you've given everyone access to these things. Additionally once you have everything, there's nothing, absolutely nothing else to get. There's no storyline to follow

It says mmorpg but there's not much role playing to it. There's no storyline, there's no story dlc like eso

Once you have everything there's no point in playing ever again
