#Make the game dark

Since the start of PreSeason 1 when the name of the game was still Dark and Darker mobile, i thought of its pc counterpart and i am sure alot of people thought of that aswell, only to be greeted with a pretty competitive game only filled with the best performing class with enough skill.

The game cannot be both casual and competitive in ranked, which probably lead to the casual mode's existence. But thats not satisfactory to the players, where gear difference and class difference will rule in PvP situations making PvP stale.

Instead of class counter-plays, class reworks, damage reworks, i want to say to focus on the environmental mechanics of the game.

First starting off by putting out the lights. (It currently doesnt work for all devices)

Let's start with this, if you put the lights out, it will give the players a more immersive and better experience.

Fighters and Rogues

The current meta is fighter and rogue, where fighter has incredible distance management and sustain DPS and rogue has immense burst DPS. That is because in the dungeons, you can see each other instantly, then it is a fair fight if there are no disparaging gear difference. However, the game was never meant to be fair to begin with, that IF will be rare and it is the playerbase's nature to take every advantage possible.

Without the advantage of sight, it will become fair, barely anybody knows where anybody is and what is happening. It will also change how the game is played, camping on doors for better chances of winning by strategy, crouch walking around and sticking close to shadows not just skill which will help new players have better outplay-ability. Not to mention the bulk of the playerbase of Asia currently will most likely be wanting something like this out of the game.

Soulstones

Current metas for soulstones for ALL classes is golem core, in the games ive played with this graphics setting, i can clearly see a player if they have an absorption shield. If this graphic setting is implemented to be the default. This meta will disappear allowing more builds to appear and completely different playstyle than just going head on and outplaying.

Instead of just being a running damage dealing tank, you can instead go for a stealthier option, not announcing where you are in every room, though it will definitely still be an option for a playstyle, having a different and easier playstyle and varied build will be more entertaining than just stale pvp.

Possible issues

  • Rogue
    This change is insanely in the rogue's favour, it is already one of the best classes, so how would this be balanced if everybody started playing rogue?

Though it is insane with how much pdr rogue can decrease and have the Highest dps in late-game gear, i think removing poison dagger and instead making poison only accessible through a passive skill should work, then it doesnt have to be both a penetration rogue and a poison rogue with both high damage, it can be a poison rogue only or a penetration rogue converting physical damage to poison damage with low scaling.

  • Wizard
    Remove the orb, or have it be a unique item or make it emit light when detecting enemy players to allow themselves to be detected, to even out advantages and disadvantages in information in the dark.

  • Skins
    Skins that emit light highlights players easier, i wouldnt know an easy solution to this, therefore i will just state that it is one issue.

  • Device Difference
    So i have now realised that using medium or high instead of low in field details does not do the same between devices. I have asked other players to try it, and it hasnt worked for them as it worked for me to turn the game dark. Perhaps do a survey to get data and find a way to make it dark on all devices. Personally, I use an IphoneXR.

Torch rework

  • Torch weight
    A stick with cloth and oil on fire shouldnt be as heavy to be -15 movement speed, -8 or somewhere close should be good enough.

  • Environmental light
    Make the torches in the environment destructible (and maybe keep the torch light lit when thrown).

(This one is just a game mechanic suggestion:
make sconces and have them interact-able like with locked chests and lock-picks but with torches, making it light up and then removing 1 torch in one's inventory and allow them to be taken down either by taking the torch or breaking it, probably taking the torch is easier to implement).

And maybe make torch light stronger but thats just a maybe, i just want to see lights gone first.

Great ideas ^^ upvoted to add onto the skins I think if someone uses a skin that emits light they will just be choosing to put themselves at a disadvantage which is acceptable.

Agree as well. The current map is too bright, but use darker map when other use brighter one is kind of dumb
