#Interior Ideas

I've been thinking of interior ideas for a while (I've been thinking about trying to make them myself, but I've never worked on a single thing related to Unity in my entire life, so there'll be a learning curve)

I really liked the idea of a mall interior, I was surprised to see one had never been made yet, considering they were one of the main locations used in a lot of liminal space projects and art (The Rolling Giant). I envisioned it like one or a few large atriums with non-functional escalators/stairs with most of the scrap contained in the stores. Another idea might be one with no atrium, but long stretching hallways lined with stores.

Another idea I liked was the idea of a parking structure interior. It sounds strange, but if you've ever played the mall parking map that blew up on Gmod during the nextbot fad that's basically what I'm picturing. I imagine it more vertical than most interiors (since parking structures are layered) with large, open spaces containing derelict vehicles (or maybe none at all) and various maintenance rooms/tunnels, small offices, security rooms, etc. on the sides and within hallways. I'm not entirely sure how it would play with Lethal Company's generally cramped interiors and AI designed to act within them, but I think it would at least look good.

This last one is probably the weakest, but I was also surprised to see no one (technically) had really made a hotel/apartment themed interior. I know that the Gray Apartments interior exists, and I do use it, but it's just their OneShot interior reskinned from purple to off-white, it feels off to me. I think something like a hotel would work well as a counterpart to the mansion, following a similar design, but I don't have any great ideas on what this would look like or how it could stand out.
(attached pictures are the aformentioned mall parking map and an old zombie survival mall map from Gmod)

pretty cool ideas honestly

#

i heard a mall interior was being worked on but the creator lost interest/stopped working on it

😔

I'm interested in learning how to make an interior but I doubt I'll make progress anytime soon since I don't have much time for it and won't for a couple months

some cool ideas in that thread were:

  • shop mannequins that were actually coil heads that activated throuought the day
  • McDonald’s styled play-places with ball pits that you could drown in
  • escalators that activated and deactivated, sending you flying
  • elevators
  • broom closets that butlers spawned in

I think the toy store interior did something similar to the ballpit idea but it just instantly kills you

#

it's hilarious

Lmao

#

i rlly need to get around to playing Wesley’s moons

They're pretty good

#

I didn't have Polarus in my modpack for a while because I would get the black screen bug, but I found out it was a problem with terramesh which was recently fixed

#

I forgot the name of the moon, but his moon with an interior in a cave has a cool mechanic where the interior randomly fills with fog for a short amount of time, but I also took it out since Brackens and Maneaters can spawn outside and during our playthrough ALWAYS spawned which made it nigh impossible to make it back to the ship

#

I spent a long time making maps in Hammer so the idea of making an interior really interests me because of the level design aspect

anyway, as for the parking interior, i have a few ideas:

  • rooms interchange between tight corridors and uncomfortably large parking areas
  • nutcracker traffic lights
  • new enemy which is basically a haunted car that tries to run you over
  • company cruiser can be brought into the interior (?)

Brackens outside is kinda funny tbh but manteaters? Yeahhh nah lol

cruiser one would be hard to pull off I think, not sure if it would be worth bringing it inside but it would depend on how many obstacles spawn in the drivable regions

elder drum
#

ye, i agree

#

i put a question mark bc how tf would you even bring it inside

#

but usually parking spaces are really open

#

i can imagine a maze of tight corridors and a maze of uncomfortably large parking spaces

tawny flower
#

the haunted car feels like it would fit in lethal company but I think it would have to have a more interesting mechanic besides just "it runs you over"

elder drum
#

yea

for some reason I thought of something like the falling elevator in the storehouse interior

#

like a long hallway where randomly a car might drive through while someone is passing through

elder drum
#

oh oh several elevators per facility could actually be kinda cool

tawny flower
#

I didn't even consider that but yeah an elevator would make sense in the context of a parking garage

elder drum
#

it would be less like “annoying ride from facility to exit or vice versa” and more like “oh, an elevator, the only way to progress, cool”

#

imagine running into one with something chasing you :)

tawny flower
#

I love the art gallery interior with all my heart but the gigantic two elevators that don't even have another layer of doors to block you from running into the shaft just look so goofy to me

elder drum

that made me imagine my idea but once the car passes it crashes at the end of the hallway and a masked comes out of it

elder drum
#

yeah

tawny flower
#

or maybe once it crashes at the end it opens a door or breaks a wall that opens up an area that otherwise would've been inaccessible

elder drum
#

you hear tyres, jump out of the way, car crashes into wall barely missing you, and a family of 4 masked stroll out of there with their arms raised forwards XD

elder drum
tawny flower
#

also what you said

#

another cool random event could just be a car alarm going off

#

just to scare the shit out of you

elder drum
#

maybe the car could be less of an enemy and more of a hazard

#

just uh oh, car starts, tries to careen into you, crashes into wall and shuts down (with a low chance to turn back on and come at you for seconds)

tawny flower
#

That was what I was initially imagining

#

In the storehouse elevator shaft you have to climb up the shaft to reach a room at the top, and after a random amount of time an elevator crashes down which will kill you unless you're hiding in a crevice between the ladders

#

I imagined it basically the same way but horizontal, so you're walking down a long hallway/road tunnel and a car suddenly speeds down the hallway before crashing at the end

elder drum
#

ahhhh i see

#

that would be pretty cool

#

as for the hotel, i think it would look awesome aesthetically, but i dunno what defining characteristics it would really have

tawny flower
#

yeah me neither, though tbh if it was made I think it just being a sort of alternate version of the mansion would be a worthy enough addition

#

maybe based more on tighter hallways, more individual rooms, than the wider spaces of the mansion halls

#

I also really like the idea of the bedrooms having small fake windows like the mansion's giant ones that just display a blue sky or something

#

Other than hallways and bedrooms I don't really know what else would make sense for you to find in a hotel

#

it'd have a cool hotel lobby entrance room but other than that I can't think of many more tiles

Actually this is nice
