okay, I may have an idea for controllers, but it may mean that you can't rebind the controller steering and it'll be whatever vanilla has it set as
and alongside it will most likely be a config to match the steering to your input, so you can hold the joystick to one side and have the wheel follow that
or halfway
etc
as for the throttle and brakes.. maybe something similar
because I can controllers have better control over the throttle
Idk what you'd set the clutch to though

it plays music after scolding you for whatever you did wrong
i really wish i could find more than 3 fucking videos of the oldsmobile voice alerts
they used basically the same tech as the chrysler one but they had different alert messages
my favourite one is probably "The charging system is not functioning properly, have it repaired as soon as possible. driving with this condition will cause reduced performance of electrical devices and eventual loss of engine operation"

yes but the cars also had some goopy shit ran through their engines to completely destroy them and then they were scrapped

i've always been a little against scrappage schemes or scrapping cars that still provide value or still work properly
not only is it a waste of even just good parts half the time (and parts for used cars especially older OEM ones gets harder to find) it absolutely ruins the used car market for these vehiculars
it's just extremely wasteful because half of the time even good components like doors windows etc aren't even spared
and once those parts are gone they're usually gone
i drive a 2008 (mk1) ford ka and i dread to think how many were lost to the scrappers
it's a car produced from 1996-08
and there's literally none left

it's just a little cheap city hatchback but i don't think they'll be "cheap" for long
as they slowly start to reach the point of being recognised as a classic car
not just for age but because of what the ka was and is
it was fords first production car to use the "new edge styling" which was a really bold move in 1996 (that worked out in the end for ford)
they sold extremely well too
infact there's one ka at a scrappers near me
and it's kind of sad because it's a 2002 (pre 03)
one of the "original" ka's with the pitiful little endura 1.3 pushrod engine

like someone might get ยฃ250 from a scrapper without even realising their car is worth so much more than that in market value
i know selling a car can be a bit of a hastle but i'd rather have more money in my pocket than send something to waste for the sake of ยฃ250

its a cromulent little engine and my mothers old '98 ka had it
i miss that car to this day
it was the ka2 which was the fAnCy one (for 1998..) with power steering, power windows etc

aside from controller support this would also include an audio cue for when the engine shuts off (like when stalling), service manual icon fix, and a knocking engine noise when at low engine health

there needs to be a way to hide from old birds in the front seats, due to me accidentally revving up my engine while 1 of them was flying above me lol 
So if its possible, please add a way to hide from them 
with the way i chose to make old birds see players in seated vehicles that isn't going to work without some weird old bird to truck angle math, if you're seated and they do their LOS check and collide with you, they see right through the car and can target you
this doesn't sacrifice LOS blocking if you're not seated, though
it's a bit strange, but for my use case i think it works "pretty well" and i like that they become way more of a threat if you can't just instantly angle the back of the car to them
although not sure what you mean by when they're flying, i don't think they can see you while flying?
unless they see through the windshield briefly
then there's nothing i can do about that
i don't want to make seated players invisible to old birds

I took a break from lc and came back to find the mod I was so hype for came out already. Immediate download. Conclusion from test run: good grief I'm bad at manual vehicles. Also we lost 1 of only like 4 vanilla maps that were good for cruiser in v80. Still a great mod tho, worth the hype

disabling the toggle only means you can hop the car
the manual box was like one of the last major changes i made before release
i just knew it would be "mostly disastrous" but i'm okay with that
some people have already gotten pretty used to it
The only sad thing is my friends lost faith in my driving skills before the break so I will never be able to convince them to try it
some enjoy the challenge and are probably still learning
some will only try it once and never again

and then for starting you must turn the key to the run position, shift to neutral then start it

i know it's a bit of a cop out but i think if you're downloading modded vehicles, you probably want to drive, and therefore installing custom maps goes alongside them pretty nicely
since vanilla moons were never built with vehiculars in mind

I had an idea for a desert moon with two ways of getting to main, one extremely dangerous footpath that's the short way and a long road that curves around the whole map with warehouses along the way. But I can't make mods on my current skill set
seichi to a degree(ish) but i still like recomming it since its fun
a lot of generic's moons work nicely with the cruiser too

icebound is a big favorite of mine for cruiser
tho its a bit bland
for cruiser I mean cuz the cruiser path is very straighforward and lacks any obstacles
there's integrity which is made for it, humidity which works nicely w it and has some cool stuff like having to go down the main path super slowly to not break the cruiser

And that I just really like that there are vehicle mods for lc now beyond just changing how the cruiser looks
i guess some people might consider this mod "just changing how the cruiser looks" but i've tried to put enough into it that'd justify having it as a seperate vehicle :p
i think it's different enough, it drives completely differently as well and has a couple extra features that the cc doesn't
and has some extra utility like providing enemy protection from more enemies

in terms of the ignition triggers, it can be a bit confusing having one at the top for trying and the bottom for untwisting and removing
would you like it more if there was just only one trigger, and in order to untwist or remove you must hold another key and E on the prompt to remove it?
I'm neutral on this I think it's fine both ways
it's just that i noticed alot of people keep removing the key on accident and reinserting it over and over
i think an extra key that needs to be held would be cleaner
would there be a tooltip that explains the extra key press?
one issue I had with the Scanvan in general is that you don't really get any clue on how to turn it on or use it without looking at your controls first and finding the clutch keybind

Sorry no, I meant actual cruiser reskins. Stuff that adds very minor features to the vanilla truck and calls it a day. The scanvan is very much not just reskinning the old truck, sorry if that's how I sounded.

it's just that when it was an automatic it had a brake shift interlock that meant you had to hold S when starting, but when i switched to a manual i wanted to keep something similar
when we try to drive it, it keeps stalling or something
use the clutch
or else it will stall

if you're setting off, give some gas while releasing the clutch
also ensure you disengaged the handbrake

all the "mechanical problem" alerts are just different health threshold alerts
and the more messed up the car gets the more dashboard lights illuminate

if i did the same thing in my irl manual car it'd also stall
it'll only stall if you're not holding the clutch at too low of a speed for the current gear, neutral cannot stall though
or if the wheels lock up (like during braking) (but usually you hold the brake then the clutch)

it's not just "not holding the clutch at low speed"
you can go slow and not need to hold the clutch
it's just when the engine cannot provide sufficient torque to spin the wheels while the clutch is not pressed (engaged)
i.e. holding the brakes then releasing the clutch in gear

I was gonna say it gives the scanvan a different driving vibe
even when the hauler came out it was the same thing just with the gearstick on the column
this is not park reverse drive
so it can be a bit daunting at first
if you want to learn how to use this vehicular properly you've got to spend a bit of time to learn it
and if one isn't interested in doing this and wants an easy way out of everything, then why would one install custom vehicles?
it gives it different driving characteristics
combined with the weightiness, suspension and traction of the van
it feels very different to the cruiser
swapping between the two is like night and day
and i like having custom vehicles feel unique from one another
because sure i could of just gave it sports car suspension, little to no drivetrain system and an auto gearbox, but then... it's basically just the same as a cruiser
it's allowed to be unique, it do be my creation afterall
sidenote i think the scanvan may be the first vehicle in any videogame to recreate the chrysler voice alert system "most authentically"
it really changes how you engage with the car, you can't just be as careless and wreckless and treat it like a sports car because its probably not going to like that all that much, its a work van afterall
I think my main problem rn is getting the van moving in a direction. It feels like whenever I let go of clutch the van goes so fast almost immediately. TBH writing that I realize I should probably get reacquanted with just tapping forward repeatedly, at least once I'm out of stall territory

it's not really a problem if you give too much gas though
but please do remember it's not fully realistic physics
because, well, thats not worth the effort

lowbeam and highbeam
the green lamp on the dashboard is lowbeam
the blue one is highbeam

you could put the keybind in the notes section of the manual
something similar to the weedkiller drawing in the base cruiser manual
the other manuals in the games already include keybinds in them (like telling you to press LMB to scan) so it wouldn't be super out of place I don't think
if i can avoid having to touch the manual again i will (i hate having to rewrite sections again)

Yup, the CC is honestly a pain, after getting a grip on the Scanvan, it feels easier and more fun to manage.

Okay, I'm actually really happy with how these ignition triggers feel
It's less clutter and having to hold left click while looking at the ignition prompt to untwist or remove while holding E just feels so much better
The ignition prompt is just one trigger prompt now
So you don't need to look up or down to remove key or try the ignition
For anyone wondering - these will be the tooltips
do just need to fix some bugs but it do work pretty nice
just realised i could of wrote LMB instead

added the ability to disable smoothened inputs... just need to reassign some stuff in editor
then an MP test
i also reduced the CoM slightly so it should be be a little less tippy feeling
it'll still feel a bit like a boat but it'll be less at risk of genuinely rolling over

just need to fix the handbrake anti-non driver pulling now..

-Non-drivers cannot yank the handbrake if there is a driver in the seat.
also updated the v55 cruiser for the grand total of 2 people that might be genuinely using it

Im holding LMB and E and nothing is happening for me
i reworked how the ignition triggers work
the key has to be in for this to work
basically the ignition only has one big prompt
if you put the key in normally
then hold left mouse button over it
you'll see the prompt change
and then while holding LMB you can hold E to remove it
if it it's started, you don't need to hold LMB and holding E will just untwist it
and then if you want to remove it you need to hold LMB and E to remove it
otherwise you can just retry the ignition

and i imagine it'll prevent alot of accidental removing and reinserting the key constantly

our old saab 9-5 (also a childhood car) had green dashboard lighting and i just love how it looks, these cars also had a "night panel" feature (like in this image) that dimmed all the dash lights, killed most of the speedometer and killed the rest of the gauge cluster, if you went too fast everything would light back up again. warning lights could also still illuminate. the radio and the ac display would die out, its such a cool niche thing

manual cars do not have park or drive
your "park" is the handbrake between the seats
So what are each of those numbers
you have to shift through the forward gears yourself
it's the gear shift
1-2-3-4 are forward gears

the lower the number the slower the car goes but the more torque it has
the higher the number the faster the car can go but the less torque it has
I would really recommend looking up a video. it super simple I promise.
it's basically what allows you to control forward speed of the car
some manual cars have more gears some have less
this is just a basic 4 speed
it might be worth just playing around with the car on a moon like gordion to get a feel for how the gears work
Gear 1 is to "start" the car from a complete stop
like if you're in first and you gain some speed, you might want to go faster, so you go to second
etc, etc
slowing down, you'll want to shift down otherwise the engine wont have sufficient torque to turn the wheels and will stall
although since the brakes are kinda linear cuz keyboard you'll want to shift in anyways unless feathering the brakes

2-3 is used for accerlation. slow cruising through the city
and 4 gear is for top speed whne you really want to go fast

i have to wonder how many more people don't realise what any gear beyond 1 does and only think the van does like 20 mph
i will mention that automatic cars do also have forward gears but when in "Drive" they shift through them automatically
the cruiser doesn't simulate this though
it's why you have stuff like "kickdown" when you hit the gas and it shifts into a lower gear to give more power
its why your car isnt doing 20 mph everywhere

I knew about the forward gears, but I couldnโt get it to be stable when turning and would often veer off my path and crash into a wall, maybe turning off the smoothing will help now
I WOULD still use those gears, but Iโd only do it on straight drives, then shift back to first near turns

@fervent timber update has been pushed, old-bird enemy sight is now a config, it is on by default (it is also networked host only), also reduced the explosion force drastically so if you did decide to keep it on, you shouldn't be catapulted out of the universe by explosions
if it is off, it will just use standard vanilla behaviour :p

mainly because leaving the engine on by accident, even if its at an idle rpm, it can make dogs go crazy

the volume will be adjustable ingame but it only applies for each new alert that begins playing
