hold the clutch down while starting
then, to change gear after it has started:
clutch down, shift to the desired gear, disengage the parking brake ofc, give some gas and release the clutch
to change to another gear in motion, clutch down, shift, clutch up
you can stall the car if you're not careful, so if that happens restart the ignition
you can change the clutch and gear keybinds in your settings
clutch default is left shift
mouse up/mouse down is shift up and shift down
the parking brake is.. admittedly a bit hard to see, but there is a light on the dashboard to indicate whether it's on or not
there is also a noise cue for it
it's just between the seats
the prompt should be easy to see
...the car will also just tell you if it's on
anyways, going to push a 1.0.4 later which will include shrunken interact triggers for the wipers and the hazards, alongside some other minor changes (like the clutch tip will now be more clear and will say "Hint! try pressing down the clutch pedal when trying to start the engine")
i'll also make the car guaranteed to start in the event of a stall, since it's not really fair to have to retry the ignition like 30 times for it to restart

It says hold the clutch but uh doesn't say what the binding is
its left shift by default but you can change it, check your keybinds in settings under "CruiserXL"
this i did indeed see on thistles modpack, i'll look into it but i'm not sure why this is happening
i only set the velocities on Start() like zeekerss does

That's manual cars, if you don't hit certain potency it stalls, that's the biggest nightmare for the novice π

in all honesty you don't really need to know exactly what gear you're in for the most part with this van, you just need to keep the revs up so you don't stall
and if you're losing speed on like, an incline, then obviously shift down so you have more torque
you really thought of everything
My irl is a 5 one
i would of made it a 5 speed but i think 4 gears is fine considering the size of most maps in this game
i could add a 5 speed if i wanted
unless you're using modded moons i s'pose

someone once said a 3 speed would probably be enough but i'd feel awkward having a 3 speed van
4 speeds seems a bit more "realistic" in my head
though i suppose 5 speeds would give more torque ranges

Being a bit clunky and inconvenient at first, because it kinda the "lethal company ' feeling
lethal phones seems awesome ive just not had a chance to use it in a session yet
Basically a rotary cellphone, which is awesome
the cruiser was clunky and inconvient at first because it had to be driven everywhere, the visibility sucks and stuff like shifting gears requires taking eyes off the road to look at the gear you want to go in
with the Vanilla Utility Slot I ended up just dumping the use of Reserved, I did keep it around initially for Shovels but then we kept having issues with players seeing floating items and I was like "Yeah you know what Reserved doesn't feel as useful anymore"
and i do enjoy this specifically for the vanilla cruiser, it's subjective but it do fit into lethal company
it was literally a whole cargo van for $400, i don't really know what people were expecting when they bought it
Also it's funny to see in 3rd person the employee trying to look at the gears
the fact it comes with a free warranty because "the company is confident in its durability" is already a massive red flag
it being so cheap is another one

it was made cheaper in v56 and ever since its been 370
and as of v70 the car is an indestructible tank
and as of v56 the car do be able to fly across the map which has been abused to all hell for ages
mine isn't much more expensive (440) but that's mainly because i know people would probably start rioting at me if i made it like 600-800 credits or something
and kinda going back to what turtle was indirectly telling me, this vehicular is not meant to be "superior to the cruiser" or "provide a load of benefits over it"
so i think 440 is a good price point
I think it is a good tradeoff, taking into account that people need to learn how to drive again

i have just realised that the keybind names aren't very clear
like "shift gear forward" should be shift gear up

breaking the windshield completely or having your door open can cause you to be grabbed
i tested giants before release and they worked just fine
and they only grabbed me if i opened a door or the windshield broke
in the cab anyways

- spawn the scanvan -> check terminal (animation is fine) -> enter car -> leave car -> check terminal again
a lot of mods caused this bug in the past
terminal looks fine to me

the v55 cruiser also has a destroyed icon that i might do something similar for on the scanvan
you probably completely ruined the windshield before then
the windshield has 3 states
or maybe a window was open
window state doesnt affect it
no damage, shattered, and broken
so you do get a bit of a "buffer" before it gives in
shattered gives it a shattered texture effect
broken is when its missing completely
you cannot heal the windshield by reloading
the state is saved
if you lose it, you lose it on that van for as long as you keep it
a little but you don't need extensive knowledge
it's not completely realistic
it's like an arcade manual box
oh yeah i rewatched my pov i tried to do cruiser jump before which is why it broke
i nerfed the jump π
(i do not like cruiser jumping and i plan to remove it at some point)

I think the compromise of being "invincible" but also it being hard to control is really good
you aren't "invincible" but with the enclosed roof and shit you are alot more sheltered and protected
i mean players only do jump because of giants
the back and cab protection are also seperate from one another
nah it's because it nulls the danger of the map
and it means they can get all the loot back in 2 nanoseconds super easily with no skill
the skill of the car comes in being able to manoeuvre it over terrain and avoid obstacles such as enemies and whatever else is in your path to victory
that too but whenever i drive on like dine for example it only becomes a problem when a giant is in the way
not memorising keybind jumps
dine is just a shit hole
it can literally spawn like up to 3 giants outside
because the cruiser just kills dogs

that jump is basically free

dine jump you need to practice a lot
the car was never meant to just be a nearly invincible flying machine

now its just an op cheaper jetpack that carries inf amount of scrap

because old birds can grab you or bump you off the map
well they'll be more of a threat now since they'll barrage you with missiles

but on the ground they dont aggro onto you in vanilla

if the hood is on fire it just has a chance to say "Your engine temperature is above normal"
or "Your engine is overheating"

the "mechanical issue" alerts are mostly just health warnings
the overheat ones are like the most critical ones (it randomises which one to play)
although oil pressure should realistically be.. but whatever
but this do give me an idea to add an overheat mechanic if you keep driving for too long at near crit hp
then i could have it say "your engine temp is above normal" and then later the hood catches on fire as health depletes and then it says it's overheating
anyways i will be pushing an update to scandals tweaks + the scanvan in a few minutes which should hopefully address the uh, terminal bug thing

you aren't dumb, i did add a little hint when you try to start the car without the clutch
you can configure the clutch and other keybinds in your settings, if the defaults aren't suited to you
i do need to change some of the wording for the shift gear keybinds though
"shift gear forward" is shift gear up and "shift gear backwards" is shift gear down
they're just called that from when i still had an automatic in the car, and i just forgor to change them
disengage the parking brake too :p
i might have a hint on what might be causing the animation issues
and it seems it might have to do with disconnecting
which narrows it down

After a hour of testing, i think that this mod is a very nice addition to the game.
But the only problem (idk if its fixable) is the car requiring a key spin when switching between gears, which sometimes takes a lot of time bc of confusion.
Also tysm for adding the wheel centering config, it made the gameplay way better :D
you need to use the clutch since you keep stalling
real manual cars do this
they just stall if you use no gas in gear
Known Issues:
- Ghost Mommy from CodeRebirth breaks you while in the seats. This is not something on my end but rather something with CodeRebirth
- Controller inputs do not work properly (huge headache, not sure how to get around this)
you gotta practice clutch control etiquette, as per the manual π

the shift should go over to the right and down
i think you're stuck on something or on the magnet
you had it in reverse here

This thing is soo weird to get the hang of but I love it. I love it so much. It was slightly frustrating but it's genuinely like, fun when you know what all you're supposed to do!
I really love driving the Cruiser and Hauler so this mod makes me squirm in excitement having a new vehicle to drive - with all the bells and whistles.
New animations, familiar radio songs, clunky mechanics. Oh it's soo good it tickles my brain π
i'm glad you like it ^^ and yeah it can be frustrating at first but it just takes getting used to like with most new things you encounter

But the things that frustrate me about it inevitably end up being some of the things I love most
another thing i need to add to the list of things to do.. make door alerts not requeue, haha
so currently i'm left with looking into the dc issue while seated and the door alert audio requeue
both of which should be easy to fix
also need to fix the cab light staying on on key removal

upon reload if you had the engine on
it doesn't call the right method

This mod is awesome! I genuinely love how interactable every part of the vehicle is. This mod is better than most games that center around cars and driving.
But I couldn't help but notice there a lack of a seat beat which is very dangerous, and I would hate for my fellow employee friends to get hurt because they suck. (This isn't a serious request and you've done a great job!)
Lapbelts are something I've wanted to implement ;)

i remember when i was really hesitant for a while to move away from having it feel nearly identical to the cruiser
i just thought people would hate it because they're only used to the cruiser
but i guess it has been working out pretty okay, i think i did what i thought was nearly impossible and struck a balance between gameplay and realism
this was when i was first developing the drivetrain system
and i'm really surprised how well the manual gearbox actually improves the cars driving characteristics
being able to choose your gear and having different torque ranges is actually really nice
the slushbox it had before was just kinda, sloppy and not really engaging
I'm really happy you decided to move away from the idea of it just being another "Cruiser" and instead it's another "Vehicle".
and the drivetrain calculation was a bit iffy and it gave more torque in higher gears
that was always kinda my goal
but i was just really hesitant to try new things
it is still undeniably a cruiser based vehicle but i tried to seperate it enough from the cruiser
if you drive this vehicle and then go to a cruiser it is noticeably different
by a long shot
I love the Hauler but it does kind of feel a little similar to the Cruiser now that I think about it - in the way it controls. I mean the handling is a lot different. Much more difficult to make turns. But the overall experience is generally the same with the Hauler.
But with the Scanvan I feel like I'm genuinely driving like, a whole new vehicle.
yeah the hauler kinda suffered the issue of reusing alot of base-game code
i'm not sure what direction i want to go with the hauler rework
physics wise
I'm not even trying to throw shade on the Hauler I genuinely love it so much it just does feel kind of similar to the Cruiser after I've driven the Scanvan.

the model did get alot of touch up and shit though

the hauler is the first vehicle i gave the smooth steering system to that i then put into the scanvan as well
so that'll probably stay

and then made a bunch of changes to it
i also fixed some issues with the textures like the normal maps being set wrong
which made it look weird

No I could definitely tell something was different. I've used the Hauler quite a lot since it's the only vehicle mod I know of that adds like, a completely new vehicle other than the Scanvan now.
the steering wheel i modelled for the hauler but i also put it in the scanvan since it seemed fitting
since the scanvan is also meant to be based on GM-chevy/gmc vehicles

vandal electronics promised heated seats but what they never told you is that they're not actually very good with electronics so there's just straight 12volts pumping through the heated seats which burns up everything around it
the sunroof is a good touch
and it snipping you in half

i would like to make you susceptible to giants and stuff if the sunroof is open
i will also do like what i did on the scanvan and make it so if the windshield is gone you also become susceptible to those enemies

the cruiser doesn't even have an enclosed roof
cruiser can break the windshield but it has no effect on enemy protection

the issue with the cruiser is that zeeks added "back compartment protection" but it extends to the whole trucks bounds
I never have creatures get to me in the cruiser
which ends up shielding seated players if the back is shut
you can stand on the roof and as long as the truck doesn't flip over or tilt too much, and the back door is shut, you'll be safe
same for sitting in the cab, since you're in the physics region

a higher gear allows you to go faster
but it provides less torque
lower gears are slower but have more torque

fourth gear is the highest gear and allows you to reach top speed
but it has the lowest torque of all the gears
lower gears are better for like climbing steep hills

the speedometer tops out about here
it's not an accurate reading but i'm just showing how much more the car can do lol
the middle gauge is your engine speed/tachometer/engine rpm
hi me and my friends started playing this mod, but our only complaint was when the car comes to a complete stop, you have to start the car again

you can't just brake without using the clutch when coming to a stop in a manual car

the clutch allows you to change to different gears

it would probably help x3
since the brakes are powerful and there's no ABS the wheels lock up
when the wheels are locked up the gearbox can't turn the wheels
and since it's connected to the engine when the clutch isn't pressed, it just dies
the brakes overpower the engine, pretty much all the time
it's like this in the real world too :3

you can also be more careful on the brakes
if you just need to slow down a bit
but you will need to clutch in at some point if you're not in neutral

since it is a bit loud and the real evas weren't that loud

a few other companies also had talking cars at the time but they were no where near as good as chryslers
chrysler also used speech synthesis like speak and spells at the time
so it was a bit more advanced
it could also lower the radio volume and such
and raise it after it was done talking
oldsmobile had some spoken messages on certain models but there's like no videos of them
chrysler also had the eva in other languages but like

i added a bunch of assists into it and made it really easy to use on keyboard
it's probably the most user friendly clutch on any vehicle in a game that i've ever used
the clutch is something you can get used to with time ^^
and by time i don't mean an overly long period of time of course it's not going to take months like irl for some people

on an irl car you have to deal with the biting point of the car, not giving too much gas, modulating your pedals under certain conditions, trying to keep the ride smooth and not juddery

hey @humble geyser the vehicle seems to be stalling a bit too easily
the stall threshold is basically idle rpm
i don't know how exactly you're driving like
if you hit stuff and come to a dead stop its going to stall yes
if you're in too high of a gear for the speed it will also stall
there is also an internal stall timer
that ticks down
oh shit thats a bit rough. bc i need to back up on the company building and it keeps stalling too much
idk man if you hit a brick wall irl your car would also stall

i also have some fun ideas like the passenger having their feet kicked up on the dash when sat down
although on second thought maybe not because of the glovebox

this clutch model i've made is overly simplified
and extremely forgiving
you can ride the clutch and do all sorts of funky shit that an irl car would fucking hate
