i will say there was an idea of having them get disabled upon hitting the beartrap with something like a shovel, which an argument about this caused me to make the poll to see if people are interested in counterplay of any kind

If only V9 functioned past going down more than 1 floor, I saw so much gameplay and the game would often soft lock when people tried to descend further. Truly a different era

the entire game concept was gonna be different

I think they’re fine, but if they were to have one, I’d say hitting with a shovel or dropping an item into one could close it (whether or not the item is sacrificed in doing so idk)
I could definitely see funny moments coming from them being inside, but if that’s not the default behavior that’s fine
i think a good counterplay would be being able to smack them with a shovel to trigger them. it would definitely help with the rare cases of them spawning in really annoying areas. they should stay closed after you smack them, but someone can intentionally open the bear trap back up to be a troll
there could also be a small chance for your shovel to either be broken by the bear trap snapping shut or to get stuck in the bear traps grasp (for balance)

Is it already known that Oxyde & the Assembly Part Unlocks reset upon reloading a save? (Doesn't matter if it's Dawnlib or Vanilla save system, it seems to happen on both from what I've been running into)
Basically... I unlock Oyxde, unlock... say LIZ-ZIE at Oxyde due to the Jar of 999 but don't buy the upgrade due to the lack of funds. I quit the game and reload the save and... Oxyde can't be traveled too meaning I need to find the tablet again. As for LIZ-ZIE... it's not listed in the store anymore despite having her unlocked from before. (If you happen to buy the upgrade though, then that's saved at least)
There's also this blank message when inserting Assembly Parts, which... is weird but it does at least proc the unlock to occur
Current mod list when I gave it a check to see if it was conflicting with mods from the other pack that I was using, but ending up shortening it to this amount and the same issue kept occurring
(Wider Ship prob isn't needed, but I had to install it since the Assembly Parts were outside the ship without it and thought they got deleted)
Wallet model is also a bit too low when held
the blank message is known but should still work, wallet model is also known and fixed, ill try to see if i can replicate your issue because oxyde unlocking, the parts unlcoking, all that should be saved
im assuming you quit the save in orbit
Yea, leave the moon, then leave the game when in orbit so it saves... and reload the file. Check if Oxyde & Assembly Upgrades re-locked on the terminal

The only config change is Dawnlib's item & unlock saving in this, at least it should be, you can re-toggle that if you need to check the save system there.
Also prob maybe make the assembly parts buyable from the store to speed things up?

The only issue I have with them is that sometimes outdoor gameplay is just looking down, but that's dependent on how many spawn

So... if you quit and reload the file, the unlocks are still there. It's when you close the game and relaunch it and load the same file... the unlocks are locked once more
Lemme try to get a video showing that, I copied my save since I was waiting on the tablet from the ship so it shouldn't take too long
They’re fine how they are but if you want to consider counterplay you could have them trigger when hit with a shovel and stay stuck like that for 10-15 seconds before falling back down
That’d help with inside beartraps in a bad spot
It’s a bit similar to boom trap counterplay but they may as well be the same thing but with bombs
Question is also if bear traps being able to be disabled by just hitting them would nullify their gameplay and be too much of a nerf. Hitting them being a very easy counter able to negate them. Would it make them more interesting and open up more options?
I think it'd be a fine counterplay! You need to spend money on a shovel to do that which gatekeeps the counterplay for broke people. You also still need to watch out for the traps, and in the case of the ones that explode I think hitting them would be more dangerous than not cuz you'd have to warn people about you hitting it so they don't walk into the big explosion
I don't think it's a super needed counterplay, but it adds some spice and extra interactions to them which is always nice
I prob should open this on the github, now thinking about it, but I wanted to check if this was known already before doing that
From my pov, what would make it interesting is if the beartraps interacted with some enemies in some way
Like maybe dogs can set them off once, and after they break etc., or maybe make them only stop enemies for a bit without hurting them
Then, theres a tradeoff for disabling them, you miss out on the potential for them being useful

this will be a life saver, i was planning on adding terminal conflict fix as a dependency to a mod, which i will still do until this is ready and (presumably) provides a solution
the way i see it, hitting beartraps isnt really broken. if you step on a beartrap outside, its because you werent paying attention, and if you were, the way to overcome it is to just not step on it. if its impossible to not step on even if you are very aware its there, hitting it or even dropping something on the beartrap is fine imo. this doesnt make bear trap encounters any worse in the other situations, because stopping to hit an easily avoidable beartrap is pointless when you can just not step over it
this depends a lot on whether bear traps are meant to be easier or harder than landmines to avoid inside, and if the consequences are intended to be lesser or harsher than landmines
imo they are lesser landmines outside that might at most get you hurt if you step on them while running from something else
and inside theyre landmines that are harder to spot with the same thing going, probably wont kill you on their own but they are probably far more dangerous inside than outside if something is chasing you
i think being able to shovel them is a fine reward for people keeping their cool and disabling the beartraps while being tensed up inside the facility
and if you want to make this a harder thing to do, make it something like how you have to hold E for valves with a shovel on your hands rather than a single hit
thatd punish people for not getting rid of the beartraps beforehand and trying to very quickly get rid of them mid-chase if thats a worry

another alternative is shovel hitting just shoveling them over to the side or pushing them
doesnt remove them just repositions them
pair this with bear traps possibly being used on entities if you wish for that and beartraps can be super fun

Yup, the options re-locked when I rebooted the game and reloaded the file under dawnlib's save
So both save systems are bork'd

In my 190 mod instance, the save bug is no more. Oxyde & SEA-M1 remained unlocked upon reloading the file.

for those who dont want cactus inside whats the main issue? Lack of counter? Too hard to avoid? Looks weird? lemme know or perish

I've lyet to see them, so i just have the idea in my noggin that a cactus inside a building that's meant to be rooted into the ground, it confounds me.

They're a projectile "spawned in" by the cactus outside, yes?
the budling finds a spot outside, roots its arm and then cacti will emerge out of the ground, stay there for a bit acting as obstacles and then retract
they emerge around players, not directly on them

if anything, would it make more sense or maybe make a difference for the rate at which it strikes at a player.. to be dependant on how close the cactus is in relation to a doorway to a facility (both front and exits)?
Im certainly not aware of how to make mods, but i imagine this might make balance harder, yet more interesting (so the closer you get to a cactus, the more frequently it can strike)

Budlings making cacti inside is a little immersion breaking on some surfaces like catwalks since the cacti just appears visibly below the catwalk and rises above it. It’s also kind of an annoying enemy. It isn’t hard to counter since it rarely blocks a path and if it does you can just hit it with a shovel or run through it in an emergency. It doesn’t really build interesting gameplay to just have cacti near you every ten seconds or so that isn’t threatening 9 times out of 10.
Also some of the time on larger maps like offense there’s a good chance they’ll be far out of your way so it takes extra time to find and kill them that just isn’t worth it since if you have a weapon you can get rid of cacti outside instantly instead of spending a lot of time and risking your life to prevent it the rest of the day.
It’s also an almost entirely negligible threat in multiplayer since if everyone’s spread out you might get a cactus every 30-60 seconds that most of the time won’t be an issue. In single player however the spawnrates are the same as it would be spread across multiple players meaning it’s much more punishing in solo. It’d be nice if it spawned cacti more often the more players there are. Starting a lot slower than current, going back to normal at around 2-3 and being much more often at 4-6.
so potentially leaning towards a more dangerous monster that makes you want to kill it? Could be rarer and faster, maybe as the day goes by it gets faster
so easy early on but the more you ignore it the worst it gets
I kinda like it being a mostly harmless enemy, an annoyance at best, the giants all fill a role
driftwood is super aggressive to everything
redwood is only aggressive to other big entities but isnt aggressive at all to the player, almost 0 threat
the cactus budling is just an annoyance that will trickle your health down at best over long periods of time
but him being more punishing the lower the player count does give me some stuff to think about, whether he should be scaled for more players or scaled down for less
reminding me of the Sea Urchins from Surfaced.
If anything, (and if it wasnt stated already) maybe after a while, the budlings release seeds which spawn more budlings(?).. so (after a short growth cycle) the later you wait, the more cacti spawn around you making them not only more likely to block your pathing, but also make it more difficult to get rid of when moving around due to needing to break more cacti.
or it's possible maybe the budling simply grows bigger and tankier resulting in it spawning either more cacti or more frequently over time until it reaches a maximum stage in its growth., THis would force players to seek it out before it becomes a unignorable issue (if thye want to risk such, that is)
working off of this point you made here, that was actually one of my plights with the cactus growing inside. Even with the explanation, it can't help but feel off. Just throwing out an idea though, I think it could be cool, if it wasn't too much of a hassle, to have the cactus that grow inside be more similar to thorny roots/brambles, while the ones outside can remain the typical cactus. This way, it feels more thematically appropriate with the idea of (usually) underground interiors
Cactus budling's main gimmick is an exterior enemy designed to be able to snipe players inside and outside. More so a nuisance that combos with others as cacti do not deal lethal damage. What do you think is the best course for it spawning cacti inside? Would making it easier to find and kill help?

well.. building off of @tropic sages idea, im thinking something similar to those little buds in the movie Jumanji that shoot out little barbs that put the girl to sleep..
Maybe instead of a cactus that breaks through, it changes a small area to have barbs growing around, and there could even be a possible chance for a "mutated budling" that shoots out toxic thorns that can maybe cause either some form of visual distortion, speed debuff, small DoT (i expect that a DoT would be too much for what you're wanting to do)
or.. (and this could be a toggleable option) maybe the lil thorn can cause a small cactus bud to sprout out of a crewmate, which would damage the crewmate slowly over time (or when they move a certain distance).
Either the crewmate themself (or someone else) can iinteract with over a channeled interaction time to pull out, but this would/could cause flat damage to the one pulling it out (you're grabbing a cactus with your hands. come on), but also giving the crewmate(s) something they can sell for an amount of scrap.
Additionally, of course.. the lil mutated budling, if it's killed wit ha weapon/tool.. the barbs can start to recede until there's nothing left. This last part is inspired by the "Rats" mod that adds grates that spawn rats which spread out more and more as time goes on (to a set amount of max rats dependent on the config). So it can be a issue that Crew Mates can either ignore and let get worse over time.. or deal with ASAP and risk taking a bit of damage.
Heck, if you do go wit=h the thorn-spitting buds.. to counter the idea of someone having no choice, and taking damage one way or another.. you can add a pre-fire particle of the mutated budling starting to waft out pollen as a warning (like how turrets made a noise before firing) so the crewmate can dodge it before (after a cooldown) the mutated budling is ready to fire again.
The barbs can also do damage after spreading over walls & ceilings (but popssibly never the floor(?) of course, to allow crewmates to move around or maybe implement a new item you can buy from the shop, i dunno.. "Steel Insoles"? that prevent such damage, even if kept inside the waist bag) OR they can just be visual, with mutated budlings spawning a certain distance from one another throughout the length of the invasive barbs/vines

outside they have more business staying with how much area you have, but a cacti in a corridor that stays foreeeever is kinda meh
even if it doesnt deal lethal damage on its own it still doesnt feel that good that your only option is to go around it or to take damage

I'm not a game designer so idk if it'll be good but it will be fun to watch people suffer against it
