Even if you could kill it, the risk for a death snowball is really high, or you have to burn a lot of resources on it.
For something that can spawn at the drop of a hat, doesn't despawn, and goes after everyone, it just makes for an experience that feels like a fuck you
anything in this game can spawn at the drop of a hat, the only difference is that you can actually pay attention to NOT spawn the monarch, its like the only enemy that isn't luck to spawn

Repo has good parallels that I think were implemented really well - the duck and the dog. Duck you just ignore and it fucks off, dog you pet 3 times and it fucks off. Both are passive and punish you for being careless, but they can't cause teamwipes by themselves

kiting means keeping something in range with it chasing you but also being far enough from range that it doesnt perform attacks on you

Nutcracker isn't easy to kill, sapsucker isn't easy to kill. I've killed both many times.
Why? Because there's a reward.
The monarch has no reward, killing it rewards you with threat removal. A threat which originated from something as lousy as not noticing a butterfly in tall grass.
It's not nearly as easy to avoid the butterfly as you think it is, it's not a walk in the park to kill, there's no incentive to kill it, the risk is too high, kiting it indefinitely is boring as fuck.
Kiting is a generally accepted term in gaming but its fine to not know it if you dont play games that specifically target this gameplay

The jester punishes poor communication, bad positioning, and overstaying your welcome.
It calms down after everyone leaves.
Monarch punishes not paying perfect attention to your surroundings, and it doesn't calm down

I get this error everytime i try to load with code rebirth, i have no idea what dusk mod is cause no mod in my pack is named like that, i can spawn in game but when activating the lever to load a level no seed are generated and i'm stuck, sorry to ask for help here 🙏

so you've never ever attracted the jester to a fireexit on like titan rather than main because you wanted to loot main? because it does calm down, it's called just kiting it somewhere far and then just running away

I would love to balance the monarch myself. Unfortunately I can't. The config options are sparse and it's design philosophy is Inherently flawed. I personally would just completely disable it as it is now.
I sort of disagree, a lot of enemies in games make it apparent how you're supposed to defeat, especially ones that require specific movement or certain actions

contact damage? no, it has a bite attack that you can just outwalk or outjump, but again, you can exploit its moveset so that it doesnt even trigger a bite attack

The Nutcracker is a prime example of this.
It's a simple gimmick that is easy to understand after just a short period of observation

also I feel like this is not an issue w all enemies if you playtest enough and take into account other playstyles (which may be necessary depending on what enemy you're looking to implement)

Again, I am usually one of if not the most environmentally perceptive player in the lobby. I still have stepped on the butterfly many times because it has been completely hidden in grass or bushes.
It might as well be a random spawn chance, because in practice that's what it is.
I'm not about to be paranoid about moving through grass at all times
personally i don't mind the monarch really, I'm glad it's killable but i'll never attempt it cuz I'll always try to be mindful to not trigger it in the first place (and I also don't engage in combat in lethal too often, at most I kill spiders, fleas, and bugs), if it does get triggered well fuck me I guess, I'm not dealing with that thing, I'll avoid it till I have to leave

if that's such a problem then you can try and kill it
it's not the cleanest but the enemy already has a set of requirements to spawn that rely entirely on the player to fuck up
so I don't think it's that big of a deal
I don't mind enemies with the same stats. High health, high damage, low speed. Spider and forest giant both have those same stats.
The issue is when those stats are combined with behaviour that is highly punishing
From an outside perspective this whole yapfest looks like a “i cant be bothered to learn the enemy mechs so its all the dev’s fault”. I dont see why its hard to pay attention where you walk, or learn how to walk out of range of it.
People learned how to deal with ghost girl, jester, fucking shy guy, I dont know how cabinet works and I dont want to be told, I know that Im getting fucked by it because I dont understand the enemy but I wont shit on it. Monarch was - to me - one of the most intuitive enemy design. Puppet master is so much more complicated I still dont know how to deal with
hell we even learned how to deal with forest giants..
the fox was unredeemable though
It's intuitive, yes, but it's not easy to avoid spawning it, and getting rid of it requires risking death or for someone to kite it indefinitely

My recommendation as someone who's actually designed enemies and succesfully released them is just to have either the butterflies disappear at around 5pm so you're not fucked over by night time lighting (which is something it might already do), or have the moth itself despawn if there are no players outside for, let's say, 2 minutes straight, kinda like the jester.
Maybe it's just how rarely it tends to spawn there. If the butterfly had a high chance of spawning on every moon then yes, I'd be paying much more attention
Just make it lose aggro when you enter the ship
This would already make it way more manageable
This is if you don't wanna change the way it currently works whatsoever, if you want more involved changes, I'd say have it drop aggro on a player when they're in the ship with the doors closed, or when there's no direct line of sight after a few seconds, there are many ways to go about it, but despawning it is the simplest (and laziest) solution lol.
That will already be big for players

Today after updating CodeRebirth and DawnLib it no longer loads the moons. (If I disable coderebirth everything works without problems). Already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mod and deleting the config file.

disable Autonomous Cranes in the CR config
seems like the same error I had before that I had as well
I was going to ask about pretty much the same thing, attempting to land on Oxyde causes a console error, the ship moves a bit, them just stops, the doors never open and the ship gets clanged to some sort of crane thing, and it remains like this until I turn the game off.

I had issues with the flora before the last patch but Xu explained why. The crane however, not sure about why it's working for me for now anyway.

What I find the most disappointing about Fiend is that he works nothing like his direct inspiration does.

I've definitely seen them struggle a bit with black mesa if you drop down into one of those "in the floor" vents
Biggest issue seems to be that Shockwave takes a very long time to start going back to the ship with 4 items
Idk if there's any host vs client shenanigans since I wasn't the one using her, I know on v72 there was an issue where only I the host could use keys on Seamine

Not sure if you had tried fixing yet but Mistriss bug still happens that permanently slows players. Killing them does fix it at least.
Also no errors on this issue but can try to reproduce some time. Some players (clients) when killed by a fan are constantly being pushed when they come back to life whether its revival or just going back to orbit. This one hasn't been consistent but does happen a bit. Was able to finally confirm it was the fan when a client died to one at a fire exit and they had the push effect permanently. Fix is to leave and rejoin unfortunately
For hazard configs, the Y value selected is the amount of traps spawned? so 0.13 Y would be 0 traps and 1.8 Y would be 2?
I understand everything about the graph system except for how the numbers apply to the game lol. I'm mostly trying to to tune things down, but I don't want to accidently nerf the spawns into the ground either
Your assumptions are indeed correct
The game picks a random number between 0 and 1 and that becomes the X axis number
Does it do this multiple times? How, for example, does it end up spawning 30 bear traps when the highest Y value is 2?
That is a me thing
The bear trap spawner is actually a cluster spawner
Hence why they spawn in close proximity
So one spawn means a cluster spawns
Which is a random number between 4 and 8
I did nerf boom traps decently in the next update though

- Duck configs.
- Boomtrap nerfs.
- Monarch curve fix.
- Crane collisions turn off while taking off and leaving ship
- Increased crane despawn range.
- Apparently fan is still bugged so I added a distance check for it working on you.
- Next update will have some crane stuff related to where they can spawn and despawning based on how big the map size is atleast.
Is this fan fix related to the bug is was talking about? Also sad about boomtrap nerf noooo 😆 that's probably my favorite hazard of them all.
Had 3 different people all step in one at the same time. Watching them all explode as im falling to the ground from a Mimic crate was pretty funny.

Yeah its a weird one cause its not consistent and doesnt flag errors. Its been a thing for awhile but any time it happened it was hard to determine the cause. Most times players were unsure what they died by due to normal chaos of the lobby, but most had reported they were killed by the fan whether it was the fan directly or the fan pushing them into something else. But when trying to test specifically I couldnt reproduce it. It was over the weekend I did get a confirmed fan kill on a player who was then affected by the bug and another had the bug too who believed they were killed by the fan.
Also any ideas on the Mistress bug? I remember you mentioned it to me before. Had a lobby where she nailed like 3 people with the slow movement bug in one day 😆 she decided they deserved a fate worse than death that day.

It was not fun redoing my pack for v73 but im glad its done now lol. You need to get maritopia's full name, it logs out as a debug log from DawnLib when you enter a lobby
Just search up for registry and look for moon registry
Also the coordinates need to be 0.00, 0.00 ; 1.00, 0.00
DawnLib does have an Item Replacement thingie in it yeah it's possible
