did you know theres like 500+ different nutcrackers
i know because my brothers wife collects them unironically
and good lord
there are so many in their house
we have a LOT of ideas for the nutcracker in the bonus skins
but thats for another time
our work here is done for the moment

i dislike that all the brackens skins change their eye color cause it kind of makes it easier to spot one sneaking nearby

it wasnt really a problem with cosmos purple cause it was the only skin that did that and you could just turn it off

cuz i usually see the eyes before i see the bracken's body
well yeah but the brackens white eyes make it blend in better around the environments
vanilla interiors would have other colors stick out easily
for the most part yes but the eyes of the bracken are still not always immediately identifiable
ive had some moments ive even thought i saw them
and then i realized i didnt
now with the skins i just dont have to worry about that moment of thinking i see one all the time
if you don't like a skin color, you can always remove, althrough the eyes blender sometimes, bracken can be easily spotted most times
the body color doesn't make much difference because it's dark
but the eyes really stand out
well no you cant really just disable the skins now cause all of them have colored eyes
again cosmos purple was fine it was the only one that did that
but if you just disable the skins entirely then

you get no bracken skins lol
I feel like you're overthinking it. If anything the eyes from the Bracken skins would be harder to spot because they are not nearly as bright as the vanilla Bracken's eyes

I'm in love with the bonus skins, they're very creative and well done, I'm looking forward to the return of the Purple Bracken Cosmos.
Maybe you could make more color variations of these skins, I'd love to see a Cosmos Blue/Green Bracken or a Cyber Old Bird (Green with Black and with headphones or a visor) as examples.
So we could have a mod that just changes the skins in a basic way (for people who don't want big variations) and another one that changes the skins but with nice additions, so that the second mod doesn't become just an extra.
We probably won’t make different colorations for most of the skins in ExtraEnemyVariety, but depending on how much we like a skin, we could maybe make a few extra colorations. Just like we’ve already done for the Camo Nutcracker

What's the difference between Extra Enemy Variety and Colorful Enemy Variety?

Extra has every bonus skin previously from Colorful (plus some new ones)
And yes, they’re completely compatible. That’s what EnemySkinRegistry is for
We decided to split them as we want Colorful to stick with basic recolors and any future skins we want to make are gonna be more unique, which is what Extras is for

Okay I gotta say this - this is my favorite lethal company mod I've seen. I love how it's always a silly surprise when you turn a corner and see a pink spore lizard or a blue hoarder bug. This is a must-have in all of my modpacks. Thank you guys sm for making this it is the best thing ever<33
Appreciate the kind words! Me and my friends didn't think this mod would gain as much traction as it did, or that we'd make so many skins for the mod, but honestly it's just been really fun coming up with ideas and designing them. Doubly so now that we're focusing on more unique skins
while i cant say this is my all time favorite mod

I've been lazy but I should probably ask around where to properly get the materials for the Hydrogere and Kidnapper Fox at some point
Because using LC Project Patcher their materials just come out as internal shader errors which... I can't use

the kidnapper fox just uses a special shader to make its fur all fluffy
you can just remap its diffuse texture to an HDRP/Lit shader and then recolor it based on what you see
though, you will of course run into issues if you try to compile the material into an asset bundle
because then you'll lose the fur in-game
you'd instead have to clone the original material and change the texture
which IIRC enemyskinkit has/will have support for?
There's a "replace texture" feature but from what I tested it doesn't change the fox at all, though I only tested for a short while ig so may take a crack at it again
It only replaces the main texture. If it's not the main texture then it won't work.
It's just for really simple cases.

What about for the Hygro? Is it something similar?
Because I notice I could slap a material on him and give it a color but A. No semi transparency and B. it doesn't contort around like when it "squeezes" through doorways
yeah for the hygrodere you need its original shader
i dont think it uses a diffuse texture at all
i think the color is just defined with color parameters on the shader

The answer right now is I’m not sure. Both them and the Hygro’s are a special case that make it challenging to make colors for at the moment

Bracken had incorrect assignments to his materials in EnemySkinKit and that was fixed yesterday. What you're seeing is his Emission but I didn't realize how much it stuck him out in the dark like that
I'll probably revert the emissions on all the skins

Looking into it more and seeing what would change, I probably will just go with what I said and remove their emission color. Realistically it changes very little and while it helped the Cosmos Bracken back then, it doesn't really do much for the normal skins

More specifically, Disco Toad & Bunnie make the more detailed skins that usually end up in ExtraEnemyVariety while I made basically all the recolors in Colorful aside from little tweaks and suggestions when I need help from them

Well, because for every skin there's a whole texture of the enemy and the accompanying material
I have the textures at the very maximum quality which from what i've been told before I could reduce their size and compression quality without much loss since Lethal already does crunching on textures

Just out of curiosity after discussing with friends, how would everyone feel if I were to eventually go forward with the idea of splitting all the colorful skins into their own mods for each enemy in the future as an option for people who don't want all 90 skins? Like for example, ColorfulHoardBugs, ColorfulThumpers, etc.
(The main mod would still exist as an option and it wouldn't apply to ExtraEnemyVariety. Also I'd still make efforts in reducing mod asset bundle size)

I tried making Jeremy, Cosmocos Blighted and Fission Property guranteed on their respective moons but didn't really test to see if I did it properely. Worst case scenario you just have to set it yourself

i think disco either took the spray paint splotch texture and drew with it or just used gradient to recreate the same splotches

So... currently testing the idea of cutting the resolution of all the textures in half in ColorfulEnemyVariety.
This brings down the size of the mod from ~91 Mb to about ~52 Mb. I'm trying to compare the skin textures to the vanilla textures in terms of quality and the differences seem very slight. I may toy around with keeping some cut in half and some normal depending on how major the difference is
I know this may be a pretty big change regardless so I'm not sure if i'll even go through with cutting the resolution in half, but it is an option for reducing the mod size.
Disco's also looking into touching up some of the oldest skins or some we just don't feel satisfied with. Namely the Ghost Girl, Nutcracker, Butler, and Barber (maybe just giving barber mostly new colors in general) to name a few
Nothing's fully set in stone but thought it would be nice to share. May show some of that progress as we do them as well to get some input

Since they're some of the easiest, this is what we have of the remade ghost girl skins as well as 3 of the new barber recolors replacing old ones (Bouncy Green, Stomping Red, Sky Blue)
tbh i cant tell a difference with any of the ghost girls except the green one
i like the Red Delicious barber though
Except for the green girl it was mainly just fixing the color of the little flower patterns on the dress
On the old blue and yellow especially you could slightly see the bits of red all over the pattern still
But it is slight

Not much to report on, but here's 2 of the remade nutcracker skins. Biggest changes you'll see across all the remade nutcrackers are the colors of the "eye" creature for the most part. And also Black & Blue's shoulders & hat bands specifically are consistent with the rest of the skins
Originally Disco messed with the idea of colored shoulders, cheeks, and hats for the remade nutcrackers (like how the current Blue and Black have those) but ultimately we decided those three parts should stay consistent across all the Nutcrackers.

i think the blue nutcracker looks a little weird
the coat color is way nicer but the pants and the eyeball "skin" looks too bright
i feel like it'd look better if both were darker
would also make the iris have more contrast
the old blue nutcracker always did feel a bit bleh though

Disco's looking into the eye creatures some more. He's already doing it for Yellow, Purple, & Green because the current iteration for those are definitely a bit much

what is the image editor you are using
im using paint.net and just installed 2 plugins
one to convert an image with alpha to a grayscale alpha map
and the other to apply a grayscale alpha map to an image
so for instance this

then you can do whatever and just reapply the alpha map

Well, truth be told, I'm not sure there's much I can do to lower the asset bundle size. I mentioned a few days ago that I am testing to reduce the size of the mod a good amount by lowering texture quality on the skins slightly with as little difference as possible. I'm not sure how much it would reduce that AssetBundle file, it probably will still be a bloated size anyways

because compressed bundles that mods are packed will be loaded to the memory to be unpacked
with decompression and storing to the disk you're removing that part leading to less memory usage
and faster load time
you can bundle your pack and then check editor log
it will print assets that takes more space of bundle

Gonna be honest here and say I'm not really that knowledgeable in Unity to understand this 
To clarify, I don't do a lickety-split of code for this mod. I use AntlerShed's EnemySkinKit toolkit for the Unity Editor to make this mod. What i'm basically doing is just unity materials and textures
The best I can do is what I mentioned before about reducing texture sizes on each of the skins but other than that I'm not really sure there's much else I can do beyond that point.
so like in this case, would this mod colorful enemy variety (having a high asset bundle size) = more ram usage?

No promises about making skins for these moons (we have other things we want to do first) but we have snowballed ideas for moons like Gloom, Gratar, Seichi, and Sector-0 already

We just take the prexisting materials/textures from the enemies and edit those to make the skins using EnemySkinKit
Most of the time it's just texture edits but depending on the enemy/skin we also change their material

If you can grab the mesh of the enemy (assuming it's not in several pieces) you can check the skins as you're making them in the unity editor

Hey everyone, just pushed an update to ColorfulEnemyVariety (v1.1.0) that mainly focuses upon touching up a bunch of the already existing skins and reducing mod size very slightly.

Reduced texture resolution on some of the more simple enemy skins (
) in a effort of testing the waters and reducing mod size. The resolution difference should be hardly noticeable
Originally we were gonna do a lot more touch ups on some more skins across the enemy roster, but we decided we'll save that for another time after v60 releases.

Probably not (for now) since Extra is only 1/3 the size of Colorful and some of the skins with finer detail would be more noticeable with their texture resolution decreased
Should also note that I've only shaved off ~10MB from Colorful since I only did the texture cut for a handful of enemies. I likely could've done a lot more but I just want to play it safe for the time being rather than just cut everyone's texture in half and not checking to see if the change is noticeable or not on all of them

I just pushed out a quick patch for Colorful (v1.1.2) and Extra (v1.2.2) that MASSIVELY reduces the file sizes for both mods. I realized i'm kinda a little dumb and could've just been using crunch compression 
Colorful went from ~90MB -> ~40MB and Extra went from ~30MB -> ~18MB (~58MB Total)
There should be barely any loss in quality with any of the skins. I've even reverted the resolution size reduction I did to several skins in the last Colorful update
Oh, also I renamed some of Barber's skins and readded Barber's "Isolated White" skin to colorful

All the textures are about less than a MB from what Unity is telling me (usually they were 1-5)
You defo can try 1024, maybe 512 but that could fry them. I think 1024 would be fine

Another issue plaguing Barber (and even Coilhead) is we can’t just do finer details Willy Nilly cuz it may stretch and contort all ugly if it’s on a bad spot

It seems like most lethal company enemy models are hit with a decimate filter and have their UVs automatically atlassed.
A modder could rip the original model and do their best to give a mesh better UVs, but with the decimated geometry, even that would be pretty rough. Rather than having your seams run in nice, straight lines, you'd have jagged lines running from pole to pole.
Photoshop used to have a feature where you could directly paint on a 3d model and not have to worry about this stuff as much. Did adobe get rid of that? I guess they own substance painter now, so they probably did.
Blender also has (shitty) texture painting functionality.
