im more working on a generic ai mod, i will add stuff to the masked coding by piggy and hopefully improve that end of the things, but for me its going to be more of a broader AI tweak, so if you want to add in something to your mod, that might conflict, if people find it does, I can always discuss with you and work out how that can be resolved, or i can just add the functionality in to the masked coding or vica versa or something i d k.
and yeah, no thread or anything yet.. progress from me is going to be slow though so i wouldent expect one anytime soon. xD

so i remembered something thats in MEOF, but i dont think in mirage.
mirage can hide the mask, but MEOF/MEO also has a setting for making the mask appear when the mask goes to kill you, could that be added to mirage? or is it already a part of mirage? (i wouldent know because i use MEOF still xD)
after that it would truly only be "zombie apocalypse" that is unique to MEO/MEOF, and ngl, people who want zombie apocalypse probably dont want many masked spamming their voices so wouldent want mirage or skinwalkers... meaning people can actually leave out MEOF/MEO unless they want that feature 😮

like.. if they are next to you, no mask, but the moment they decide to attack you, the mask appears with like a fade in animation (i think), so like,if i walk up to them, they have no mask, i whack them with a shovel, they suddenly go aggressive and the mask appears

Sorry, I have a question that maybe has been asked before: Does Mirage add considerable lag to the game? I have a friend that has an older pc and was wondering if i should leave it enabled or disabled for when I share the profile
there shouldnt be lag, but best thing to do is to have them try it and see
although mirage is required on all clients so if one person doesnt run it, things might not run as expected

Better voice replication + much better situational playback from my experience
it also comes with a lot of improvements for Masked built in
instead of needing a second mod to make masked believable
Main reason I'd say is because the voices are synced so other people will actually hear what you do
maybe a bug.. bracken killed my friend, and a masked spawn from their body, bracken still tried to drag the masked away, was quite bugged out, i killed the masked, whacked the bracken, and only then did it fix (when i whacked the bracken. lol)
if a bracken is dragging a masked enemy, that's definitely from mirage since there's no ai changes
for spawning the masked from their body, if SpawnOnPlayerDeath is set to 0, that doesn't sound intended
although in that case i do want to confirm if you're actually seeing the masked enemy come back to life as soon as the player dies
since previous reports of that was actually something completely different
sorry, didnt explain it well, was still playing, the masked wasnt being moved, but the bracken was still trying to drag them, it was very slowly dragging away an invisible "object"
the masked seemed stuck in place, i watched my friend die, sadly wasnt recording.. but they realised the bracken wasnt being normal.. so i just "toyed" with the bracken, and realised it was bugged to hell.
i think basically, the masked was fine.. but was locked in place (because it was supposed to be being dragged away by the bracken) and the bracken was locked in the drag animation, but it couldent drag the masked.
I am using a few mods which maybe causing the issue though, one sec.

have no mods for the bracken.
takethatmaskoff was semi working as it took the mask off, but the player body didnt drop.. so that maybe broken, or it maybe because mirage resapwning a player as a masked is different from a player being turned into a masked by another masked?
but yeah, i figured it was mirage spawning the masked from the dead player that caused the bracken to bug out, as i assume the bracken AI was not expecting the player it snapped the neck of to turn into a masked. so it tried to carry the body away until i whacked it.

unless bracken ais are made to drag masked players, the SpawnOnPlayerDeath feature shouldn't matter in this case
cuz if the dragging logic is specific to players
there's no possible chance the masked player would also have a PlayerControllerB
then they should let go once it turns into a masked. but whatif there is lag, and it started dragging, and it wasnt expecting the change. so it kept dragging?
i think this is something that lunxara ran into before, but again i'm pretty sure it's not related to mirage

Hello, in the configuration I set the natural spawn to false but the masks still spawn naturally

you could try setting EnableOverrideSpawnChance to true and then set the spawn chance itself to 0

one thing i got now is maybe a lil more config options?
we're already trying to make it as user friendly as possible
like for v2 it's mostly just, install cuda drivers if you have an nvidia card, and other than that, all the voice recognition + ml stuff should do its thing by itself without requiring the user to do anything
one thing i have been noticing while toying around in singleplayer is that even with NoRepeat, the masked men still say the same stuff.
it's way more common if there's a small clip pool though...

like i'll play all my soundboard sounds and it'll repeat the same ones a couple times
the way NoRepeat works rn is like this:
lets say you have 3 voice clips, indicated as [A, B, C].
mirage picks a random voice clip, e.g. C, so the remaining choices are [A, B].
mirage picks another random voice clip, e.g. A, so the remaining choices are [B].
mirage picks another random voice clip, e.g. B, so the remaining choices are [] (nothing).
since there's no more available voice clips, it'll fill the pool again, and since there's 3 voice clips, it becomes [A, B, C] again.
out of coincidence since it picks a random voice clip, it might pick B since it's in the pool, despite it having picked B last
i decided not to fix that since voice clips fill up pretty fast
so it's highly unlikely for the same clip to repeat twice in a row
if it's more than twice in a row that's definitely a bug though
so if i only play 3 sounds and never do anything again, it won't speak again?
idea: non mask entities (maybe the ghost girl and bracken?) can mimic sound effects (dropping items, picking them up, walking, etc. but it's very rare. like REALLY rare

so in v2, i have an AMD GPU and someone else in the lobby has an Nvidia GPU.. the idea is that the other person’s Nvidia GPU will do the heavy lifting to make v2 features work for me (who has no CUDA)?

so i've decided to just simplify it a bit and make it so that only the host can do this (if they have an nvidia card)
since whenever audio is streamed over to other clients
it has to be sent to the host first already
the host already has the audio, so it'll just have to transcribe it, and then send the results back to the target client

but yeah the host having the audio would certainly make things easier if they have the AI to process it for non-CUDA GPUs.
in v2 everyone still keeps their own audio, not sure if i said different plans but i decided to keep the streaming logic mostly the same, only reworking some parts to fix the issues that the original one had
having the host do it is definitely the simplest solution, and is probably what people expect anyways, since you generally have the player with the beefiest pc as the host

host just has to do more calculations than a regular client, their pc performance won't affect everyone else
main reason to have someone with a better pc on host is to not degrade the gameplay experience for someone with a bad pc

v2 sounds like both super fun thing and a pretty complicated one at the same time
should be more than enough on 6-8gb of vram im pretty sure
progress update: unfortunately might be stuck for the next 1-3 days while i figure out some performance problems. there's a pretty huge problem with the voice recognition stuff that's making it run approx 10x slower than it should be
Don't forget about the game itself, possible other mods and windows/discord/browser eating additional 4-6gb vram besides the AI
Back when I was on 1060 6gb this really made me go iGPU + gpu instead of normal configuration due to "need more vram" heh

i'll try and get some numbers later on, but if it does end up eating too much vram, there won't be too much i can do about that
i think from my last modpack of around 150 mods.. it ate a lot more RAM than vanilla. as for VRAM i dont recall tbh. i dont see why it would unless higher resolution textures or high poly models.. AI stuff definitely eats up VRAM if ur using the GPU to run the model tho.

lemme take a look
so i see it uses coqui-ai/tts, which was one of the first things oeis considered using, but the issue with this is just how inaccurate the voices sound.
when we tried the demo, it sounded very robot-like and couldn't get the tones right, and overall would be an instant giveaway that the voice is fake.
the issue with generating voices on the fly as far as im aware is just, the tech isn't quite there yet, at least not for this use-case.
if wendigo's was able to fix this issue that'd be pretty cool, but i can't see how it'll fix some of the challenges of working with this kind of tech, such as:
- matching the way someone expresses themselves (monotone, or someone very expressive in the way they talk)
- accents: what if they're not a native speaker? you can auto-detect accents, but some people might have slightly different accents, and you can't 100% replicate that
this is why for mirage v2, we're sticking to the approach of recording voice clips like usual, and then instead of generating anything new, it'll respond with the best match instead (while learning over-time how you respond to certain phrases, so it can use that clip as the optimal choice)

all of the generation would be done locally wouldn't it? concerns over feeding voice into an ai kind of reads as fearmongering to me

hell even just having your voice recorded (for a mod that replays your voice) is something a lot of people aren't comfortable with
well then its not really a concern, the would-be mod just wouldn't be for you. the real concern would be your voice data being used without permission, which is not possible if everything is done locally
there are a lot of genuine ethical questions regarding the use of generative AI in video games but i feel like a lot of concerns just stem from not understanding how it works or how the data is being used
and of course i don't think it should be forced on anyone if they don't consent to that
either way i still think mox's point is valid if i want v2 to be as accessible as possible, doing any voice replication would alienate a group of people who aren't comfortable with that, whether the data is saved locally or not
although it not being used for v2 has more to do with the fact that the tech isn't quite there yet, rather than for privacy concerns

what's the value for "OverrideSpawnChance" to guarrantee a masked enemy spawn every round? I tried 100 but nothing seemed to spawn
the default is pretty much that, i guess it's a bit misleading, but the "spawn chance" percentage is based on the percentages you'd get based on the spawn weights
in this case leaving it at the default (20) should make it spawn every round
since my goal with that setting is to have 1-2 spawn every round

if you have more than 2 that just means another mod is overriding the max spawns

After doing more testing with the default spawn value, spawn curve disabled, and zombification at 100 - We still cant find any naturally spawning masked enemies, we're on assurance. Zombification works but no natural spawns, we've done like 10 rounds
Only mods we have are morecompany, mirage, mimics, lategame upgrades, and toomanyemotes which the mimic did an emote from which was cool

in this log, is this a game u played normally, or were you manually spawning masked enemies? i see a ton of them in the logs
basically all we did was spawn in, die to test zombification and run around the interiors to see if any were wandering around
we werent using like a menu to spawn them if that's what you mean
there were 3 of us but only 2 of us would die to zombifiy at any given time

I think having it in a config may be helpful in this case, like.. Have it at False by default and if person wants to then they can get Ai voice of themselves
i was referring to the different approaches for v2, whether it's the current one (saving audio clips and responding with the best match), vs generating voice clips
i'm assuming what you're talking about is just having the new v2 features vs the current v1 features, which is definitely already planned to be optional
the AI stuff requires quite large dependencies since pytorch needs to be bundled, so users who want to use it will have to download a separate package, and that'll be the way to opt-in

like melon said, keyboard sounds shouldn't be much of an issue anymore since v2 uses SileroVAD, so it won't record keyboard noises if the actual player's voice isn't detected.
for coughs and whatnot though, it'll still be present for sure. we'll see how it goes later when oeis and i are done hooking up our code together

could you go to your mod manager -> settings -> copy logs? there could be errors that'd point towards a certain mod

Hi, really love the mod. I was wondering if Id be able to change the spawn rate to like a static 20% give or take. I see the default value is 15, but it spawns quite a lot so I'm wondering what I should change it to, (or should I just change EnableOverrideSpawnChance to false?) Still kinda new to the game so having it spawn nearly every time is a bit too much haha
overriding the spawn chance is definitely a bit misleading, i'd say try setting it to something like 3-5% instead

you're 100% sure it's from a natural spawn right
if it's spawned from a player dying (via SpawnOnPlayerDeath) then it's possible it's from mirage
if it's a natural spawn then it's definitely not a mirage issue

i don't think TakeThatMaskOff would cause that problem, since it only drops a mask item on the ground when a masked enemy dies (i think?)
ok, take that mask off i also use, it rarely bugs out, but sometimes, when the masked dies.. it doesnt drop the mask, it gets stuck on its face shaking, if you touch them it glitches everything out afaik.

yes, but when they die with "take that mask off" mod, the mask should fall off, when it bugs out, they stay shaking on the face, because the game thinks they are still alive, so you step on the corpse,... and they kill you, and the game bugs out then.

and if it still occurs, it's probably a mod conflict of some sort
but from the way you described the issue i'm not even too sure, cuz natural spawns isn't handled by mirage (i only modify the spawn weights, but the vanilla game still handles the spawns)

@deft cape Masks crying/laughing is broken and not functioning as intended, which is a vanilla feature they’re supposed to have. You can read how it’s supposed to work here, since Enemy Sound Fixes now fixes the issue: #1239435358555472003 message
I bring this up because I’m not sure if this is something you want them to do while your mod is active, so you may be interested in either disabling this entirely or only for masked players (leaving the mask items alone)
i think it'd be better to leave that for that mod to fix itself, since it doesn't ruin the experience for mirage, especially since it's a vanilla bug
The mod does fix the issue, but I'm referring to the interaction between the fix and MIrage, since having the masks laugh/cry over player dialogue might be against what you want

Don't think EnemyFix will fix the issue, all it does is just make sure dead(?) enemies get despawned properly when leaving a moon

100% agreed, seeing it less makes the interactions more impactful, i just have default spawns quite high by default because IMO it's more fun to see it more often, but i might tone it down just cuz new players tend to not like that
so i was going to add this, but VirusTLNR is working on #1240985198485573743, and it probably fits better there, since i probably won't be doing much updates other than for the voice mimicking features specifically

What were they?
basically to use WhisperS2T it's compiled into an exe using pyinstaller, and in order to communicate with it, audio samples were being piped to that process
there were a few issues i was having:
- if the payload is too big, a deadlock happens where it seems like the parent/child processes are waiting on each other, which at least from what it seems on stackoverflow, seems to be a rather common problem
- i was using json to serialize when sending audio samples to the child process (the whispers2t exe), which is just slow
for the first problem, the simplest braindead solution i could do is switch to using sockets instead, and since i didn't want to handle sockets myself, i opted to use zeromq instead.
for the second "problem", well, i just replaced it with google-flatbuffers to handle serializing the audio samples.
before the changes it was taking around 4 seconds to finish (if it didn't deadlock), whereas after the changes, it's gone down to approx 0.27 seconds.
(this is for a large amount of audio samples being transcribed just to see how it'd look like under slightly heavier load)
pretty surprising that something that simple was causing such a massive performance issue tbh
ah yeah, it usually is something that seems insignificant until you profile and scrutinise it

yes, but in v1, after it plays audio it'll immediately start the delay timer, and once it's over, it cancels the original audio.
this means any audio that's longer than the delay will keep getting cut off
that's fixed in v2
if you do want to do that anyways, just make sure it's a .wav file
(fyi in v2 it'll only be able to read .mp3 files)

Yeah I bought my girlfriend a 3060 12gb instead of 3050 (default option) or 4060. Best option imho.. got it with a 14400 cpu.

because of that experience.
the 1090T was good, but... when your favourite game does a patch... and suddenly you cant play because your CPU is at fault.. >.> and my cpu was only 3/4 years old at that point i think..
it wasnt just that cpu either.. its kind of the game makers fault.. but for example.. my intel CPU is 9th gen... its like 6/7 years old and runs brand new games fine..
plus also, that AMD cpu seemed to have a tendency to "fall asleep".. suddenly the cpu power evaporated.. like it went idle.. back then i was less familiar with how pcs work.. but.. either way, the combined situation put me off for life. my girlfriend wanted AMD, had an AMD cpu and an AMD gpu before.. i literally force converted her to nvidia and intel because i dont want to waste my money. xD
i never said they arent.. but for example.. if you went to a cinema.. and witnessed a murder in the cinema.. you probably wouldent go back to a cinema any time soon, right? its going to take a lot for me to ditch what i trust and beleive in.. to jump ship to where ive had a bad experience 😄

I actually like AMD drivers over both Intel and Nvidia in terms of how they can be used and look like
And all 3 seemed to be relatively stable for me too, didn't experience a single crash yet which is super weird
Oh, maaaybe relatively high idle power consumption or idle temperatures compared to intel, but it's also much less power hungry when you're using it compared to intel(90w vs 150-200w on similar intel cpus, i got 13400 which takes up to 130w)
But i have 50 degrees on idle and 55-60 under load so idk
x3d chips that were burnt in the beginning of am5 cycle - it was motherboards fault(ASUS in particular) for overvolting
Same shit happened with intel due to which i9 or i7 13-14 gen became unstable due to pushing them too much by default(Motherboards default)
GPU wise tho... Haven't had AMD gpus yet but i do know that for about same price nvidias gpu will be slightly worse in gaming perfomance and most likely have less VRAM BUUUT nvidia has CUDA cores, DLSS is actually better and Nvidia is much better for almost every single 3d modelling app or stuff like that and another BUUUT Nvidia can't go linux properly

I had so many issues with amd drivers, so what I ended up doing was locking my amd drivers and software to an older version to make sure it didn't update itself
I think I actually do have one problem due to them now that I think reeeally hard
Due to some amd chipset update - there is some random ass problem with realtek audio in some specific cases when it starts crackling instead of normal sound
But it's pretty rare
And other than that I didn't have a single problem I think

For example - I have msi 3060 gaming x, it uses same cooler as 3060ti and is capable of properly dissipating 200-250w of heat especially if its a trio version with 3 fans basically
Yet this gpu has vbios that locks power consumption only up to 180w which is not enough to achieve full clocks of this gpu xd
For example - asus 3060 gpus may let you use up to 210 or 220w for oc
I wouldn't complain tho if it wasn't for the fact that it's not enough to get at least stated boost frequency lol

Thought I'd pose this question here, but since Skinwalker & Mirage have different some minor variability in their functions, has anyone tried using Skinwalker and Mirage recently together? I was thinking of redownloading skinwalker for its walkie talkie function, but I'm not sure how stable it'll be.
@ionic shoal is planning to add the walkie talkie feature when mirage v2 lets them access the info for what it's worth

it was never skinwalkers providing the walkie-talkie function (afaik), it was MaskedAIRevamp integrating with skinwalkers, and as @viral obsidian said, i plan to bring the same functionality to Mirage once qwbarch is ready, and likewise same for Wendigo's voice cloning, when thats ready.

Mirage does most of what MEO does anyway and MEO was broken since v50 at least.
MEOF works though, and has 1 setting (or had one setting) that isnt in mirage, i forget what.. everyone always forgets about MEOF though, xD

lol.. that "no spin" is from MaskedAIRevamp and is in my mod, so i am not sure if GI is compatible with my mod, never used GI, but my thoughts on compatibility is, if its using the same areas of code as another mod, its likely not compatible, so you would hope if GI had that spinning turned off, it would completely disable that functionality.
and its a "WIP" in the sense that.. it only works for one monster so far, but it works as well if not better than MaskedAIRevamp does afaik.

@deft cape couple of days ago we talked about that weird bug where my voice is not getting picked up but works well for everyone else
Soo I switched to a different user, one without any special characters in it (my main windows user has a "é" character)
and now it works!!!
in fact the whole crew died because of it cus they were so used to my voice not getting repeated, they really thought the masked guy was me 😄
glad it works! also very glad it has nothing to do with codecs
and thanks for confirming it's indeed the accented characters that's causing the problem

cosmetics sometimes dont spawn for masked and it only happens when you load into your first game
and then when i rejoin they're back

mirage doesnt do anything at all for cosmetics, it just sets who the masked enemy should mimic, and then MC applies its cosmetics
although ive never had that issue personally so idk

Actually I think MaskedEnemyOverhaul did alter masked spawns, I had a similar issue but was lucky enough to have someone explain it to me. This was around the time I also discovered that the gamba mod of all things also conflicted with masked spawns... SOMEHOW!!! But MaskedEnemyOverhaul did have a section dedicated to spawn changes which made it impossible for them to spawn on all maps. This was, however, only possible because it was conflicting with another masked spawn weight altering mod. Atleast I think that's how it went down.
