played with mirage last night.. DeleteRecordingsPerRound = false, MuteLocalPlayerVoice = true and AlwaysMuteLocalPlayer = false. In addition with all the interior enemies = true.
It doesn't seem like I EVER hear voices while spectating people. There were many instances where they were calling out (and they iterated that they heard a voice) for someone and I never heard anything at any point.
These were all for regular enemies (not masked.)
I'm wondering if some of my settings conflict in a way that causes a problem. While alive I never heard my own voice (good), and mirage worked fine. But while dead I just never heard anything.
Also looking for some clarification. When an enemy mimics a person, would we all hear the SAME voice clip, or just ANY voice clip from that same player?
Additionally, is there any effect whether DeleteRecordingsPerRound = true or false, in regards to what voices are played? If recordings are deleted every round, is it clearing all recordings prior to, or just getting rid of ones that are stale? Meaning would we hear recordings from earlier in the night or not?
Not hearing voices in spectator could be a bug, but in regards to everything else:
Every voice clip will be the same no matter which player hears it, with the exception of having your own voice muted.
DeleteRecordingsPerRound will delete all of the recordings you've ever had. There's a folder in the steam folder with every voice clip. This will be emptied after every "round", which misleadingly doesn't mean per moon just per hosted session. So if you have that ticked to delete per round, it will have started recording from when you joined, and deleted when you left (or might delete when you join another game, I'm not sure specifically)

There is some sort of limitation, maybe sample count? But I had some 0-2 second clips I there in there and they played. I had a 7 second clip that wouldn't play, so either there's a clip length exception or some form of filesize/samplecount exception

idk if there's in incompatibility since i dont use it, but even if both mods remove the mask texture and arms out animation, it should still work
so not sure what's going on
Yeah I just disabled those features in MEOFork and had Mirage control them so could be some situations where the settings being off for one mod causes weirdness

alright so to explain why the longer clips don't work, this is what's currently happening:
- audio clip gets streamed/played
- imitate delay starts immediately after starting the audio clip
- next audio clip gets played after the delay is over, and if the previous audio clip is being played, it gets stopped
the reason i never bothered fixing it is because in 99% of cases, audio clips are smaller than the delay anyways, so it's not really an issue.
i was already planning on fixing this in a later update when i get time to rewrite some of the audio networking logic.
but to recap, it's not due to memory limit issues or anything, in fact when i originally tested networked audio, i used ram ranch as the test to make sure larger audio files work properly
so in a future update i'll fix that part and audio files that are larger than the delay will work again, but it's just not too big of a priority for now

difference is if every mod bundles the same dependencies, you have more to download instead
for barchlib it's mostly f# stuff so nobody is gonna use it anyways, so theres no point splitting it up, but for unitask/naudio, it's a common enough dependency that mods should be using a shared distribution anyways
suggestion: keep track of who was in earshot of a voice line and avoid replaying that voice line to the players that previously heard it
or weight it lower in the RNG
i was going to add something like that in v1.1.0 but didn't end up having enough time to add much
but next update i'll add an option where you can have it play only audio that it hasn't played before, and once all recordings have been played, they'll be added to the available pool of recordings to play from again
I noticed that a lot of the audio clips are super short and might not even contain anything (maybe a weird blip or something.) I'm assuming these noises would get played and count as a voice line.. which a player might not even realize is anything at all.
so it could essentially be TWICE as long between actually hearing someone's voice. Any way to mitigate that through detection of peak volume in a clip or maybe even minimum audio length requirements?
Requiring > half a second clip might cut out simple responses such as "Yeah", but would definitely cut out a single mouse click sound or similar.

this is a result of voice activity detection having a lot of false positives.
in v2 i'll be using a much better voice activity detector that appears to be pretty accurate so far (haven't tested it yet): https://github.com/snakers4/silero-vad

Mirage doesn't have anything to do with which player is mimicked unless it's the spawn mechanic upon death, correct?
Cause with Skinwalkers + MEO it seems like a player putting on a mask will have its mimic mimic some random player which might not be the one who put it on.
Wondering if it's the same with Mirage or if putting on a mask somehow triggers the upon death spawn of Mirage.
it depends I think since mirage either disables natural spawns for the maskeds and instead turns a dead player into a masked once they die (which I guess includes putting it on) or it just copies a random person once a masked spawn naturally if that is enabled

And if you do, did you enable its compatability feature?
mirage does pick a random player to mimic even for natural spawns.
putting on a mask makes it mimic the player that put the mask on
don't use MEO though, use MEOF with the compatibility config enabled

Yeah, I'm long time user of Mirage in my personal pack. The observation of putting mask on leading to wrong player mimicked is from another pack I'm maintaining that I didn't switch over to Mirage yet. It was with Skinwalkers + MEOF

It has 3 main groups of features. You use HUD one. Second one is monitors that you use GI for. And third is terminal commands. So no, they're not "almost all useless".
There's a difference between calling something useless and it having no use for you.
And you constantly keep bringing up the networking feature that has like one conflict and is easily disabled.

as long as AlwaysMuteLocalPlayer is set to false, you should be able to hear yourself during spectate

right now as soon as the audio file is starting to be fetched, the timer already starts, and as soon as the timer ends, the next audio clip will start
and if a previous audio clip is still playing, it'll get cancelled
i'm gonna change this behaviour later on though
so that it'll only start after a previous one finishes instead

so about that, nothing is set in stone yet, but my plan right now is to have it like this:
- each player can selectively choose to enable ai or not
- if a player has ai enabled, that means only the monsters mimicking their voice will use this mode
- everyone else who doesn't have it enabled will still have the current random mimicking mode instead
and if you have a bad pc but your friend has a good pc, one of our goals is to make it so that work can be offloaded to the other player instead
nah it's just training to learn how to respond in the way you normally do
the tech isn't quite ready for training/using your voice on the fly
maybe in a couple years it'll be way more advanced but for now this'll have to do

the accuracy for it is pretty damn impressive to me, it's ignoring my keyboard presses, while letting my voice pass (as expected)
so for v2 you can expect to finally get rid of the annoying keyboard sounds if you're on voice activity

so when the ai trains, it's trying to learn how you answer to certain phrases, so if someone says "i love you" and you respond in a certain way, it'll respond with that voice clip more often
at least that's what i understand from what oeis explained, cuz this part is his work

but all the main code will still be in mirage
basically i'm just making it so that if the dependencies are found, you'll be able to use the ai features
if not, then it'll be auto disabled

i made my mic have a noise gate and the mics of my friends block enough noise plus noise suppression mod
each person having a noise gate would be ideal, but since it's meant to remove sound (from what i can tell at least), it wouldn't fit in mirage anyways
since for mirage you want it to play the same audio that was recorded
so in this case, a better voice activity detector just makes more sense

it will block all audio if it doesn't meet a threshold for example 30 db if it does it will allow all audio in
which is why i add a noisesuppression also to block audio while im talking
background audio*
i guess technically if i just do a filter for that db level and only record if it's higher, then that's better than the current voice activity detector for sure

nah it wont filter it just doesn't allow audio to register until a threshold is met if it actually did that the start of your words will get caught off since humans start talking low then go higher
