I have footage of the issues
Attempt 1: Bracken grabs friend, I chase, friend is left in a random corridor, unable to move. The bracken refuses to attack me and will not kill my friend. I run into the bracken, it grabs me, takes me away and kills me.
Attempt 2: I am taken by bracken, instantly killed (???) and shot at by turrets while dead (???)

Sorry, forgot to respond to this. I finished the main functionality and was in the stages of polishing to make it pretty but it sounds like someone threw something together and posted it. No sense is posting a copy of something someone else already is doing so I shelved the project. If I come back to it and add something new, maybe I will post it down the road.
i feel bad, you really did work hard on this. i hope you can make something that excels what you planned initially, if you want to go back to it that is.

The one that was posted I think is more of a fix-as-its-found deal, which is good for quickly finding bugs. I would suggest making it a v0.x to show it's not fully done instead of 1.x but I haven't tested the latest fixes so I'm not sure if that opinion still makes sense

Alright, a networking update is posted. I was testing with my laptop and PC all day today, but managed to get it working in a stable form with no desyncs. The only issue I notice is when you teleport while being pulled, the Bracken is unable to attack the same player. It fixes itself after a new moon & other players can still be grabbed. Players can also hit the Bracken fine and it'll reattack

i have a modpack of bout 63 mods
its really strange how people are having issues with the compatibility lmao
- Adrenaline effect when being grabbed
- Swooshy sound effect when being grabbed
- Muffle voice when being carried
- Muffle hearing when being carried
- Configurable bracken speed when holding bodies
- Bracken covering your eyes to limit your vision (not entirely, but it would make it a LOT clearer you're grabbed and make it scarier)
- Lock camera horizontally to the way the bracken is facing (configurable, in the same way the terminal moves your camera back but doesn't completely prevent movement)

i like these, i'm pretty sure we can adjust the speed using a transpiler on the update method but not 100% certain. same with some of the others

also a good integration with diversity would be for the bracken to leave you on minimum hp & for you to bleed out if you are snatched but saved
in solo i'd suggest just making the bracken kill you instantly because the entire snatching sequence is a guaranteed death that would just be potentially annoying (probably should be a config option)
same for when everyone is dead (that should probably default to off though)

honestly i like having to do the corridor from diversity first time im grabbed, then getting dragged away to death second time. even when playin on me own, idk it gives the bracken that extra bit of life. so hopefully it can be a config for what crozzington mentioned
probably a side effect from the inSpecialAnimation bool, also prevents item usages

i've noticed the favorite spot is not dynamic
so if one of your homies dies at that location and you end up there too, he'll kill you pretty fast when he reaches it. might have to reset it to another far tile

You get snatched > you are taken to bracken room / favourite spot > it stands still for 1-3 seconds ish > it kills you
in the instance of no, was this deep in the facility?

so if you happen to get grabbed in that spot, you'll die pretty fast. i'll make it a bit more dynamic so the location is the bracken room, if they are too close, find the furthest tile instead

Maybe instead of slowing bracken down, you could calculate distance to kill spot and use that to determine how long it waits before killing at that spot

i was actually working on an animation to impl, but stopped working on that when i realized there were major issues with synchronization

I think you could just get away with angling the ragdolled dead player model to look alive
and have the actual movements swing the player around
also I think there's still issues with things attacking dead players

maybe it can be fun if when he brings you to the room he doesn't kill you imediatly, looks at you like 2 secs(configurable) , then becomes angered and kills you, just an idea

I've been messing around with the rigidBodies and we could definitely do a ragdoll animation instead. It might be better to do self-clients as kinematic, and people you observe as non-kinematic (physics apply). I noticed when I set kinematics to false, the screen jitters terribly for the grabbed person hence why I'm thinking of allowing the client to think they're still in a kinematic state. Although, I don't know what this would do to changes in rotation, like when a player moves their mouse. I'm guessing that'd cause some de-sync but we could alternatively just prevent them from moving their heads entirely, I just really dislike how shaky it feels
why would you be able to see yourself though?
shakiness could maybe add to the panic tbh, but the bracken doesn't feel like it runs in a way that'd make you shake, it's very smooth in a way

So, with the snatchin bracken, this happened.
me and two friends were cornered against one of the big doors that you open with the terminal, as it was closed, the bracken attacked one of us and grabbed one of our group, although he remained there just vibing while holding my friend, after some time he killed him, i tried to snatch the body away from the bracken and he dropped the body, and just attacked me, doing the same thing.
Is it normal for it to get stuck like that and stay still?
Apparently it began moving again only after i was fully dead.
It's only meant to stop when it reaches its favourite spot
Did the door close as it grabbed your friend? Maybe all the pathfinding is calculated at that moment so when the door shut it wasn't accounted for

@jovial egret quick question regardin the "brackens behave more naturally", does it basically mean it will go back to acting like a normal bracken after its taken a victim
with the whole stalkin behind players, runnin when seen, or tries to hide if your staring in its vicinity
or is that just how it acts even without touching that config

like instead of taking them to the spot
that was honestly just a boolean i added to a bug fix where they'd kill too fast and thought i'd add it in just in case i want to make different variations later

I think that mod should work fine, he just spreads out processing of furthest nodes into multiple frames, saving some resources

So, there is no form of lag with the Bracken, only issue (wich is a lethal escape issue im 100% sure with) is that the bracken outside will just stare you down, and you would suddenly die from him despite him not coming towards you.
So yeah seems to work correctly (Didn't test with diversify although, but considering what it does, it should be the exact same result)

I've just figured out how to change the favorite location permanently at will, I was having a lot of issues where it was being overwritten by the Update method. How would you guys like the config option to have the Bracken take you to the "Bracken Room"

I would like the option that he doesn't crack your neck when he brings you to destination but looks at you x seconds before becoming enraged and chase you x seconds and kill you (we talked about it before)

just a headsup theres a bug (niche bug tbf) when using this mod and control company. if a spawned bracken takes a player then is forcibly despawned the player will be stuck and cant do anything

i think that, if the sound doesnt get muffled/cut, the bracken will loose out a little bit of its comedic value
too many clips are so great, because you turn around only to see a bloodtrail
with the sound muffled, you wont be able to replicated the whole, but at least a good chunk of it
the muffled voice should have only a certain range, so you can only hear it if you stay close by. or if you chase after him
and yeah, the snare muffle sound would work just fine
i test it sometimes with 1 or 2 friends, you're welcome to join in for that

I have a few ideas for stuff that would happen when you're caught, because the only thing stopping me from always running this mod is that when you're caught and then someone saves you, you can't immediatelly tell you're free. I think a couple ways of solving this and also improving the mod is making it do more when you're caught, for example lifting you up to make it clearer you aren't on your feet, causing the adrenaline (FOV increase + colour change + sound effect) thing to happen for you and people who see you being held, as well as maybe a swoosh sound to replace the crack that adds a lot to the suddenness of the bracken. the sound muffling is great, and I think it should also be harder for the person caught to hear people and other things. there's also the idea of making it harder to see, with the bracken covering your eyes, but my friend disagrees on this one. I think it'd be a decent way of making it harder to see some of your camera clipping into the bracken, as well as causing lots more panic. the one other thing is making the player ragdoll / other animation when caught, but this is planned from what i know so that's fine

enjoying the view, while being dragged into the depths of the building sounds more interesting to me, than being completely oblivious
for example, you could see the weird parkour, twist and turns he makes, past some other abominations, turrets, a minefield and stuff
and you know, you need to go through all of these back yourself, if you want to survive that
worse yet, if a friend is following you to rescue you, he has to go through all of that as well
yeah, that's similar to what my friend said. I didn't mean completely covering vision like a snare clean, more like fingers above and below your eyes making it so you have a slimmer view

depends if diversity calls the same teleport method. if it does, it should work fine
i tried to find a way to use that hand animation but it seems it’s hooked into death directly. i’ll see if i can copy it to a static one. i’ll add those as a config if i can

i thought the animation was some overlay for the HUD but it’s literally the Bracken’s hands from the model lol
might actually just set their position so they’re FOV is encapsulated by their hands, probably the easiest
just depends if their hands are orientated at the position while dragging a body, might be too low
