#Proposed changes to durability system to make more natural

I came up with an idea for how I think the wear system should work that would force eventual gear replacement, while feeling more natural than the current system.

  • permanent durability loss (degradation) and temporary durability loss (cleanliness) need to be decoupled
  • per shot degradation should only apply to the parts that make sense. Recievers, barrels, gas blocks, charging handles, muzzle devices
  • per shot degradation should be slow. Typical service rifles have lifetime expectations of 8-12k rounds on wear components
  • other attachments should only have degradation happen when they become damaged due to the weapon being shot/blown up/dropped from death.
  • cleanliness can be applied to the whole gun through normal use. Could be made worse if in water/mud/etc
  • things like lights/lasers use the cleanliness stat to denote battery life. Only decreases while on. Faster rate than current though to balance.
  • repair kits are now cleaning kits
  • using a cleaning kit to clean the gun should always take it back to max durability with no degradation penalty. This max is capped by weapon degradation
  • repair services continue to function like normal with the time penalty. Maybe reduce the amount of repair you get for balance.
  • penalties should be applied more slowly. No effect till you get below 60% durability, serious effects below 40% (introduction of malfunction mechanics?)
  • the cosmetic wear details should be permanent to the part they are applied to and be time based. Scratches, paint wearing off etc. Give well used weapons character.

Some refinement of the concept may be needed, but i feel that this is a more logical approach that would be more intuitive and feel less "cheap" than the current system

The reason it applies to all parts and not just the "ones that make sense" is because the majority of stat bonuses come from other attachments and the point is that the entire weapons bonuses go down over time, not just the stats on those couple parts. I honestly think that should remain how it is in regards to effecting everything.

Its less on the realism side but is what makes it a mechanic that actually effects the use of the gun.

I like that

Same end effect, but without the other parts having to break

good idea, though the possbility to repair our guns to 100% would be way easier and more simple.
