#PLEASE DON’T DO THIS

Please MFG, don't add any supernatural elements like monsters, zombies, mutants, or anything like that. I know you're basing it on the novel Roadside Picnic, but your game is so much better without it. We already have Stalker, which does it very well, but please keep it natural.

If you’ve ever read roadside picnic, there aren’t any of those things. There’s just anomalies and artifacts, that’s it.

#

The addition of mutants is something Stalker added of their own accord, including the setting of Chernobyl. Roadside picnic has multiple “zones” around the world which, who knows, maybe MFG will want to do sequels following other zones. Also, while it was “aliens” whose visitation created the zones, people didn’t really see them, they didn’t interact with us, and are already gone when the book is set to take place.

So it’s pretty safe to say this game won’t have it either, not to mention CEO outright said there’s no plans to ever add aliens (which you can infer also covers mutants).

We're the mutants hehe

Pretty much, yes. Or whatever this unknown force was that all but wiped out the first wave of PMCs.

And you heard all the supernatural sounds?

#

So things exist

#

We know anomalies and stuff will come into play

#

I personally cant wait for more

Given the size of Ground Zero, would it be safe to assume that if they add things like Anomalies, they will be isolated within Ground Zero? Or is there not enough known about what's coming to say?

Theres no 'safe to say' about it

#

Theres no real info other than some lore about Strauss Company being another pmc corp going after high value stuff there

As a bit of theorycrafting, I believe the anomalies will be confined to GZ. There are “hints” at them, though, such as those tripods you can find in different places taking readings of something or the little butterflies that group around in certain places.

Yeah man, sure — for the sake of ‘realism’, we’ll find out that the epicenter of the Gray Zone contains… the Epstein files. Who would’ve thought? 😄
Reality is boring, especially when you’re trying to force game mechanics that aren’t really realistic into a supposedly realistic setting.

And no one is saying they’re going to give you super anomaly weapons or mutant enemies.
It really doesn’t matter what the actual MacGuffin is.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard running behind me, spun around, and flicked my light around like an extra in <Insert Predator-like film with generic soldiers getting picked off one by one at night> I could buy GZW for at least 1 friend.

Hordes of zombies, maybe not.

But some prototypes of mutants in the lab. Biological weapons?

Okay but if we had to fight Mr. X as a community Halloween event, that’d be pretty sick.

I'm surprised no one has brought up AI yet. The mechanized sounds coming over some of the radio signals sure sounds like something other than mutants, ghosts or demons.

Whatever it is, I think it would only add to the game loop, not take away from it.

A Halloween event where the island gas is actually a virus and everyone that got infected turns into zombies and roam around the map would be so cool

#

So it would be a fight between the PMCs, AI factions and the infected

#

As an event only

if we read the quests stories.. red zone is something with zombies 😄 and no, i don't want it neither.

I think it'd just be cooler if it was kept simple and ground zero was just well, ground zero for the Visitation if its also taking that scenario from the book.

In roadside picnic the Visitors simply appeared, and then disappeared just as quick as they arrived, no one ever saw them, but it was evident that what had happened was due to some sort of extra-terrestrial lifeform. In their wake they left behind a trail of dangerous anomalies and the artifacts, one of which was the Golden Sphere, an artifact capable of granting a wish.

Now granted, it works similarly to how GSC interpreted it in STALKER with the wish granter, as in it doesn't do exactly what it says on paper, instead of granting you a wish that you asked for, its widely believed that the sphere actually grants your innermost subconscious desire, not what you ask for at the moment of contact.

Whilst this game is simply inspired by Roadside Picnic, I think it'd be cool if they leaned a bit more heavily into it with the upcoming updates and pull the curtain back on the mystery more, maybe we'll even get to see the golden sphere, or this games interpretation of it at the center of ground zero.

We'll just have to find out what they intend, I imagine they're gonna start expanding into ground zero soon, probably 0.6 or 0.7 i'd reckon.

# void fiber ?

Theyre taking a dig at MFG because the AI still isnt perfect to them despite MFG doing work on it constantly.

So theyre basically saying "the ai is never fixed when they say it is so aliens might end up in the game"

honestly even imo this is a hot take -

(isolated to ground zero only) if they did do some stalker-esk things like maybe hazmat enemies that are infected but not mutated, and you found weapons/loot that was fictional but also unknown/experimental in game (no outrageous laser weapons/railguns etc...); if they did it right and not too outlandish i dont think i would hate this at all and in fact think it would be rather fun, would certainly add another layer to the game after the fort narith grind. something also needs to happen with it and what else are you going to do with an anomolous irradiated zone? plus fort narith will no longer be end game.

basically if they do supernatural things i would prefer them to be done in a realistic imagined discovery of these things and keep anything supernatural confined to ground zero and connected areas like ban pa and the village east of sawmill, as if we were the first to stumble across these things and really survive

The game already has Aliens

They were added this patch, and you can get one to put in your holster ;)

The only thing I don't want to see happen is monsters or zombies, guys. I understand that strange things are happening in Lamang, but that doesn't mean we necessarily have to see Stalker-style nonsense things
