There isn’t more loot — there’s just more useless junk that nobody needs!
Charging cables, gun oil, laboratory supplies, water purification pills, cigarettes, and so on...

Make items actually useful!
You find gun oil = great, pour it on your weapon and restore 5% durability.
You find cigarettes and a lighter = cool, you unlock an emote where you can smoke one.
You find water purification pills = nice, now you can drink water from a river.
You find cloth = good, use it to patch up holes in your armor and restore 5% durability to your plate carrier.

This is a first pass at adding more stuff to the game - and it honestly makes the world feel FAR more lived in than before.

There's some tasks that ask you to collect certain things, so that's itself useful.

Beyond that, we've been told that there's some sort of crafting coming at some point, so it stands to reason that some of this will be useful in the future.

This is literally the first pass.

Let them cook.

I see the OP's point, and I agree to an extent.
I think this is the first pass to that maybe.
If we can start using all the "junk" that would be great.

That’s such a dumb way to implement something like this, to be honest. Instead of adding the crafting items together with the system, they add the items in version 0.4 and then the crafting in 0.8 or whatever???
Sorry, but the time spent modeling and properly setting up those items could’ve been used way better to address other issues that are actually causing problems in the current update.

This is an early access game with a phased deployment roadmap.

You're basically saying "Don't release anything unless it's entirely finished" - which is a great way to not get a game at all.

Also, a loot system where everything you find is gold is stupid. It makes finding actual good stuff more rewarding.
