Subtitles for what?
Hi! I’m from Brazil and I don’t speak much English, so sometimes it’s hard for me to understand what the AI bots are saying during combat. I can understand some phrases like “I see you”, but most of the time I miss the dialogue.
It would be great if the game had subtitles for NPC voice lines. This would help players who don’t speak English very well and also improve accessibility for deaf or hard-of-hearing players who enjoy the game.
As I said, this is just a suggestion. I’m not sure if it’s something complex to implement. The translation in the game is already very good for understanding the mission context, but having an option for NPC subtitles would be really nice.
I know the bots don’t have many voice lines, but it would still be great to have the option to enable or disable subtitles, even if the voices remain in English and the subtitles are also in English.
FWIW, you're not missing much. The voice lines don't really provide any tactical value outside of identifying that there's an enemy nearby that's aware of you.
A lot of it is just weird taunts like "I kill you" or "I'll [have sex with] your mother".
I speak English and I have a hard time understanding what they say sometimes, their accent makes everything they say better
They could be speaking martian and it would be just as useful as what we have now.
Well sometimes they call out “he’s moving right!” So if you’re third partying you could use that information to your advantage idk
It's funny to see some people in this chat. Instead of saying "well, that's interesting, I don't know if the mechanics are feasible," people simply attack and belittle the suggestion. As a gamer, I thought it would be interesting—not just for me, but for people with disabilities. It was just a suggestion; if it's not possible, that's okay. Life goes on.
Yes, but for those who don't hear very well, reading is essential, of course.
Yup, I’m an expert in that haha, I have to have subtitles on for everything cause I’m half deaf and delayed in processing sound
Would be interesting to see, wonder what the cut off distance would be though, and we need to see if they have fixed sound in ybl first, then they could work on something like this.
I don't think anyone here is saying it's not feasible.
What is being questioned is the value it brings to the table right now. Given all the useful dialogue we have is through mission briefings, the messages from vendors or notes, what is actually left for subtitles to display, when you think about it?
I've yet to overhear anything useful, such as a door code or anything that furthers a mission. It's usually some bellyaching from the unaware NPC's, or taunts. Even 'he's going right' or 'enemy retreating' is of limited value, since all that is telling you is they see you still - which is often followed by gunshots anyway.
