In PVP mode, the player should be able to choose where the helicopter will land, without predefined locations. To extract the helicopter, the player would choose the destination and the pilot would mark on the map where it can be picked up.

So like player controlled helicopters?

A rule of thumb I like to follow, always choose the 2nd closest LZ to where ever you are going. Sometimes you do just get unlucky though.

Has anyone ever floated the idea of not being able to loot players that are killed within X seconds of getting off a chopper?

Call it a "Dishonorable kill." If killed within a determined time from getting off the chopper, you respawn with your gear and the enemy player doesn't get to loot your corpse.

Remove the incentive to take those easy kills and reduce the irritation of those being killed.

Players can still grief you, but they get nothing out of it.

my personal take on the the subject is that I want an LZ to be a circle, not a fixed location, and the heli lands at a random spot within that circle. Sometimes that circle is really small and it can only land in that one spot (a few LZs are rather small) while bigger, more open areas have a larger radius for the heli to land in, and are therefore less predictable
