#NO PRIVATE SERVER

Alternately, private servers once the game has come out can greatly extend the life of a game, and allow communities to control the experience theyre going for while weeding out people that cause trouble on their servers. Private servers can be a really good thing for a game like this, as long as theyre not done too soon so as to hamper development and feedback on the development of the game.
Definitely agree private servers can be great for a game, but it depends on how it's done. I don't want a game in which I have to pay for the server in order to get in like some games, DayZ, scum, etc
the thing is, if they do it theyre probably going to need to make you pay for it. They cant just absorb the cost for people to be able to make their own private servers. thats just not realistic for about any company. The fact that its your server, and you can do with it what you want and make your rules, means its only fair that you are covering the costs to maintain and run it.
Someone ultimately has to provide you that server space so it makes most sense if you want one, to pay for it.
and in the others, you probably dont actuaslly need to pay for the server, if you just own a sufficiently powerful machine to run the server on. But thats a whole other can of worms, and theres a reason most just rent a server through one of the many hosting companies
Compute aint free.
I get this, but as a user I don't want to be paying for a monthly subscription basically for the best version of the game, which is typically how private servers start trending.
Then you dont need to, only the server owner is paying for the server. Just dont join a community that is charging a subscription. The vast majority of all servers on DayZ operate purely off donations or are owner funded, so you can play on them with no cost unless you want to pitch in. Im sure thats how the majority of private servers would function on GZW.
And if you want a server that is high pop and has all the bells and whistles you have to pay for is my point. So from a PvP perspective especially you would be screwed. And by you have to pay for it I mean you have to pay for prio
Yeah, nice things cost stuff. Best to get comfortable with that now.
Really great insight
Arma Reforger exploded because of the 'private' servers and the creativity that comes with it. Private servers are alawys going to be a ++ for any game, it attracts more audience.
The bells and whistles really don't come with the price tag of owning a server. I've known dozens of people who have shanked out $50-$100 for a server and not a single person joined. Knowing how to mod and code events/items into that server is where the real fun is.
