Perhaps an option to switch to a topographical version of the menu map? or add lines too it?

I would very much like different filters To study the terrain, relief for example

I wouldn't mind if the topographical view was an exploration motivator - where it starts out "blank" and the more you explore the more you fill in that view.

So you'll still want to get out into the wild and cover the entire map if you want everything covered.

It would be really entertaining but also even more difficult to find the quest locations (without an external map)
I would like to try to play without the external map at the lore update 0.4 by reading the stories and quests etc.. we will see if it becomes possible or not .

but about topo map I was just imagining several different filter to switch between the satellite view and the paper map style view

some military areas also can be blurred (like irl btw)

and infiltrating these areas for the first time will make them visible. I know we all know the map rn but if they add some modifications that can be cool to have some surprises

I don't mean the entire map - just the topographical layer.

I like the OP's idea though.

I would absolutely get behind a Topo Map overlay - it's very hard to judge where hills and mountains are on the existing flat map, and the number of times I've almost fallen off a cliff or steep hill while trekking through the jungle that is otherwise unmarked or hidden in the foliage makes it treacherous unless you've walked the route before. It makes planning trips and tactics (sniper overlooks, flat areas, hilly terrain to use as approaches) easier. Knowing the terrain is half the battle, after all.

Now, whether you uncover it as you explore or it's just there is up for debate, but to me personally it makes a certain kind of sense that we'd already know the Topographics from previous map makers during less dangerous times.

LRI could have that from the very start, other factions could aquire them after some recon quests scattered along the map.

if i understood well the lore, LRI is a faction more dedicated to the area of Lamang. Other factions are just contractors. Yes, topomaps of a common "civilized" area are easy to find and free to public, but specific topomaps of a far away country maybe aren't really easy to find.

Hmmm. I can kind of see where you're coming from, but it feels like a long stretch of logic to be honest.

LRI is fundamentally an PMC firm masquerading as a humanitarian organisation, where the others are more overt about it. But even with that, any organisation going blind into an area like that would be putting their operatives at risk.

It wouldn't take much with the funding these organisations have to acquire maps, even older non-satellite based ones, of countries. Even during the construction of major infrastructure such as roads this would have needed to be done before construction commenced.

p.s. if you like excursions and want travel to Italy, google search "mappe cai italia", you will find on firts results interactive topomaps with major walkable tracks and places

I'd love to see a map similar to ARMA3. No markers, map tools to mark the map, topographical outlines with altitudes... That'd be awesome. What I wouldn't like is more "filters" and stuff like that... just a map would be great.
