#Visual indicator for the selected firing mode

Please add a visual indicator to show currently selected firing mode. Perhaps somewhere near the character stance, in the upper left corner. IRL, I know the position of the safety selector without having to look at it, I can just feel it with my thumb.

I'm against increased information on the HUD. All you have to do is Alt+B.

You can always just use free look to look down slightly at the fire selector. With the M4 at least you can just plain see what fire mode it is on

Technically, I can just look down at my legs to see if my character is standing or crouched, yet they have the stance indicator - so why not firing mode? Alt + B takes too long, IRL, my thumb is already near the safety selector so I don't need to look to know its position. It's just a small QOL addition. The whole point is that I don't need to look at my rifle to know if it's on semi or full auto, it should be tactile. The only way I can think of simulating that is with a visual indicator.

Personally I know because that's the mode I set it to, but if I pick up a gun or think I bumped something I just change the selection with the selector key to see it on-screen. Similar to swiping the selector with a thumb IRL? Perhaps.

#

As far as checking the gun taking too long, if you are doing this in a firefight you are doing it at the wrong time. Shoulda done it before you started.

Yeah, personally I don't think this is needed. In a game where minimal HUD and realism is the MO, adding a function that tells you if the giggle switch is toggled or not when you can toggle it back and forth taking 5 seconds in game is unnecessary coding.

It also feeds into good practice for Situational Awareness. If you're going into a fight without actively knowing what weapon mode you've got on before you do so... well, that's something to remember to do before hand the next time.

I usually cycle the selector to make sure I'm in the correct mode before I engage, but that shouldn't be needed. Adding a small (optional) icon to the UI that shows the firing mode would be a helpful QoL addition. Obviously not a priority, but there is already a stance indicator which is just as unnecessary if you think about it.

Alt+B takes to long so we need an indicator on the HUD which renders the time they took to implement that animation and also being able to visually look at the rifle irrelavent, that's a bit steep especially in a milsim.

Maybe as a compromise they can add dedicated key binds for auto and semi modes, instead of it being a toggle.

north tulip
# mortal tapir It's on the rifle.

I know where it is. However, I shouldn’t need to look at it to confirm the selected mode. I should be able to retain target focus and confirm the position of the safety selector without pressing any keys or looking at the rifle.

My keyboard already doesn't have enough keys for everything people want added to the game. Is it really that hard to use the existing single keystroke to switch modes to see where it is/set what you want? It can be done while in motion too. Also, what target focus? If you are changing it mid-fight you have been using the gun and already know where it is set.

#

If you are heading into a POI you can check the whole gun before contact when you are walking to regain stamina, or on the chopper, or at base.

LALT+B, its a simple keybind with an animation that is quick.

#

And yes, it's quick enough to be done in a fight

Not sure how you are able to press ALT + B while using WASD and a mouse at the same time, but I can't achieve that level of finger gymnastics. What I can do, however, is look through my scope at the target and know exactly if my rifle is on safe or semi, without needing to look at anything. So why not have an option (you don't have to use it) that offers a similar level of instinctual /tactile feedback?
So much concern about "realism" and yet the current implementation is anything but realistic. Checking your mag magically showing the exact number of rounds in a windowless mag is fine, but being able to know your firing mode without actively looking at the rifle is crossing the realism line?

Definitely should have to guestimate on the windowless mags though, unless you punch holes in them, which is pretty much what the glocks do if I recall.

I play healers and tanks in MMORPGs, finger gymnastics comes with the territory.

I'm going to steal an Aussies line based on Arma and twist it for my own use here: "Realistic shooters are not real life."

Certain senses we csn rely on irl either dont function at all or function at a different or impaired state, but for the sake of the game, we cannot afford too many UI elements.

Lest we become the opposite of our genre.

"ALT+B" is check fire mode, "B" is toggle.

I remapped switch fire mode to just "B", simple, quick, and effective. Remembering what I have selected is just part of weapon routine to me. Yet if I'd forget, quick press on "B" does the job. Having the right mode selected is part of tactic for me.

Thinking ahead instead of reacting to situation. I use "semi" 99% of the time, going "auto" only if unsure in CQB I can make it with one two rounds.

If you prefer to run "auto" most of the time, then "semi" is for long distance and there is time to check selector.

The issue would be only if player acts chaotic, changing fire in unpredictable patterns hence can't remember in what mode is, in my experience.

I still maintain that checking your firemode when you are 0.5 seconds away from shooting someone you are watching in your scope is already way too late.

I rebound it to my mouse's rear thumb key - that way it is instinctive for me without needing any finger gymnastics. The only time I ever need to use it is rounding a corner from long range into CQC where I think an AI/player might be, and might need a 3rd burst to put someone down in a hurry.

At the end of the day, all of this boils down to the OP not wanting to learn proper situational awareness skills and using an UI to compensate.

This is not hud worthy.
We are activly even trying to get the compass and clock off the hud. Replaced with watch and compass.

I run hudless, just with the compass. Yes I have shot F/A when I though the gun was in Single. It happens. Did I blame the game or hud, no.

I have my change fire control to X, and check to hold X.
And to check fire control, I either use the freelook, or I hold X.
Simple.

I think even stance is not hud worthy. I would love to even replace all the hud medical popups with a simpler visual. But as it stands, I do not even see them as I have all that turned off.
As you said, you can see your stance.

The Compass to me, is basically the only thing that is hud worthy. Simply because it is going to be really hard for people to learn without it. And it should still be toggle

there is literally a keybind designed for this

I have mine mapped to the thumb button as well, but it's still a toggle. I would really prefer to single-press for semi-auto and double-press for full-auto.
