To better fit the jungle vibe of the map, include wild animals so players don’t just fight against human AI enemies. This will make the world feel more immersive and bring more than just ambient sounds to life.

In specific areas like dense forests or along the rivers from time to time, you could add:

Crocodiles near rivers and lakes
Tigers or jaguars
Monkeys
Turtles
Parrots
Snakes

If a player stays AFK for too long, a snake might come and deal damage to them.

And more

No thanks to the hunting simulator, which this is what it would ultimately become.

I feel like it would be a green hell type game if we had snakes and other things that could kill you, plus i think the sound of a PMC squad coming back from a monkey hunting expedition sounds kinda silly. I am 1000% for parrots and other non agressive wildlife, I made a post about it a few days back https://discord.com/channels/1166365362158313522/1377194206396682250 I also think frogs should be visable

Maybe add some animals which aren’t attacking or are killable, but adding predators just would cause senseless death and losing of gear

tropic plank

The goal isn't to add aggressive animals in every area, just in certain specific spots.

The snakes would be there to discourage players from staying in one spot for too long, especially in PVP. The longer someone stays put, the more damage they'd take, so it’s not too punishing.

A hunting simulator? Who said the goal was to hunt them?
The idea is to add some life and make the game more immersive — we're in a jungle, not in the countryside.

Interesting suggestion, but I don't think it really fits in well with the game. Snakes aren't really keen on attacking people, they only do so when provoked or stepped on, but a snake isn't going to hunt down a player who's camping somewhere and as a potential mechanic to prevent said camping, sounds a bit off to me.

there is no 'jungle vibe of the map', it's mostly a populated area

#

you hear frogs, imagine them jumping away when walking through the rice fields, snakes that dont attack, but simply move away from the player. Birds landing on a fallen tree... etc etc more passive and strictly for immersion..

# tropic plank I agree with that; it was just an idea to deal with the players who's camping.

I get the frustration dealing with campers, but it is a perfectly legal tactic. Wasn't to long ago a guy had suggested getting attacked by a swarm of bees as a way to deal with campers if you stayed in a spot to long or another guy suggesting mosquitos slowly draining your blood until death if you stayed still to long. There's never going to be any solution to campers because the devs don't see it as a problem and I would say the majority of the playerbase don't see it as one either.

Why are snakes always the suggested answer to bush camping when coming up to someone in a bush and biting them is incredibly unrealistic snake behavior

or the any number of fucking reasons someone may have to sit in a bush for a while

like waiting for AI to fucking move so they can get their body

God forbid someone need to stop in the bush to take a 5-min IRL phone call.

I dont agree with animals attacking us or killable wildlife.

But I would agree any form of wildlife out of the players reach (also unkillable) would be a very nice addition.

Monkeys in trees, some snakes that slither trough bushes, all kinds of birds, and many more. But nothing we can interact with.

I don’t know, with people spewing out the idea of a flea market, I can see snake skin and crocodile plate carriers and monkey fur clothing going for high numbers 😂

The goal is clearly not to hunt, but simply to add some diversity to the threats from Lamang.

i think birds and monkeys would be cool but bigger animals idk

I'd be ok for animals to be implemented but not as a something to fight against.
Something like birds flying away as you pass being noisy and clumsy, that's OK.
Same for dogs barking if they spot you. But definitively not something to defend against. It's not hunting simulator. Plus with a raging war between all the factions, i doubt there would be a lot of wild life still around anyway.

  • The game barely can handle all the players and AI + helicopters
  • This isnt hunting/survival game
  • Poaching is bad

I for one like the barking dogs with no live dogs in sight vibe.

#

Brings just the right ambiance to the game.

Animals dont like being around morter shelling and shooting

The Human Health System would have to become the Living Things Health System. Those animals need blood and organs too or they won't feel right. They should be seen and hear but not something we can interact with.

DayZ has animals and no one is moaning, tigers would actually be cool to have in the jungle that can attack you

it 100% fits here, i bet if you could loot "tiger pelt" and sell it for 2-3K, that would make it an even better addition

Tigers have effectively been extinct in Laos since about 2013, not saying that justifies not having animals entirely, but for me this game just isn't it. What the hell are we as PMC's going to go hunt tigers for and collect the pelts for.

End of the day, wild animal attacks are not common, and when they do, dangerous animals are usually provoked in some way to make them attack.

I think there is a lore reason that all the animals are gone/dead connected to the Ground Zero, maybe its gonna get fleshed out in lore update. And yeah I agree this isnt survival postapo game so Im against animals and collecting screwdrivers and lightbulbs. There are vendors selling brand new military gear and helicopters flying left and right without fuel issues so...

#

Using DayZ as an example comparing with GZW is funny, its a zombie survival game...

steep drift

The argument for saying there's no animals cause of lore is kind of flawed since I constantly hear animals as I am in game. Are there animals or are there not animals? If there aren't then why do I hear animals everywhere? Also saying GZW is either this type of game or its not is also kind of a loose argument cause the dev's are clearly open to changing what type of game they want it to be based on how its come so far. I do see a strong case against it for performance reasons but if this becomes the open world pmc type game they seem to talk about I can't see why they wouldn't open up other types of story lines or ideas like counter poaching or survival aspects. We already have some mild survival aspects in game and its well positioned to incorporate more. PMC's definitely do counter poaching type work as well. We already have story lines through vendors as well that deal with relief/ngo types and local population, both of which would easily fall into the realm of fictional NGO's interested in counter poaching or trade etc. Not saying it needs to be a priority, just that it probably is worth while looking into one day, even if its just a quest here or there. Every mission doesn't need to be "kill this guy, kill that guy". Is it going to ruin your pmc fantasy if there's a dog or a snake or a bird lol? I get though that people probably don't want this to turn into far cry or red dead when it comes to devoting so much time to animals, but for those so against it it seems kind of weird to fight it so much. Definitely could add a lot of depth or content somewhere down the road when the game is really fleshed out.

The moment you shoot a high powered rifle, all the animals in the AO would move far away. If you want animals in the jungle, try Green Hell. By far the best jungle survival game ever made.

I think adding dogs in urban areas would be cool as there are plenty of dead dogs and dogs barking
In addition they could add to the game by giving your position away so avoid them or kill them to remain stealthy

upper garden

I would just say judging by the lecture we sort of receieved during the dev stream regarding the difficulty and length of time required merely to implement bipods/canted sights. Could you imagine the time/effort it would take to add in realistic animal behavior or other wildlife that can physically interact with the world.

#

I'd get banned for team killing.

#

There's another game with random animals running around (dogs, deer) and when players randomly shoot them (there's no reason to) I get... annoyed, lol.

#

So if someone on my team shoots a monkey in a tree they're getting cosmic justice to the face.

vocal spruce
#

Great idea would add a serious touch of realism instead of just hearing them you can actually see them monkey could reveal positions if scared same with birds if you fire gunshots packs of birds may start flying revealing your position to someone far away. stray dogs, hungry and scared they would most likely run away from you etc and etc 🔥🙏🏽

Can't we just imagine that the remaining animals know something is up and are staying out of direct sight of humans? It's so much easier.

More ai assets will lower performance maybe so ambient wild life could be cool an animal scaring the shit out of you in the jungle my moving making noise would be cool but not at the expense of performance. Performance should be always in prime consideration when thinking about adding stuff especially anything that needs server tracking and any sort of ai. Hence my objection to more vehicles 🚗

Some wild life could be a cool solution if we have finaly crafting mechanism. Not a bad idea to hunt something down and eat it, if we're low on food.
