Can we please rework/redo the "delete" and not make it a toilet, since flushing fish down the toilet is not very good, Maybe an option to "rehome"?

If I need to get rid of healthy fish I return them to the store I got them from. It’s not the same as reworking the delete option but it’s better than flushing

I do agree however this is a simulation game it includes the good and the bad of fishkeeping, sadly flushing fish down the toilet is just a truth with fish keeping (for some) just like how the game includes death and well the shop "fish and cheaps" formally "petstart" a problematic shop. Even tho it shouldnt happen, it does so it has been added as a little feature.
Tho you can always do what dragon said and retern them

(Funny enough sometimes I’ll actually move a few of the healthiest goldies from fish n cheaps over to Monique’s because it makes me feel better)

I hear the concern, and it is valid. I've considered an option in the settings to turn off the toilet joke. That said, I do like the emergent moral dilemma it poses for players and how it encourages people to spontaneously "rehome" them instead at stores. For a while we actually didn't have a trash option and I had to manually drop stuff off in stores when testing. I thought it was beautifully resonant with real fish keeping.

We have a lot of conversations on the team about how to be responsible with what we signal is "normal and good" by the design of certain features. Generally I want to lean toward making certain bad actions possible while not encouraging or rewarding them. It makes for a more honest simulation. Also, certain things are hotly debated in the community and are impossible to make everyone happy about. At the end of the day we just have to make a decision.

So I understand if something is upsetting because everything in fish keeping upsets someone and there's no way to pick a point of view without picking an upsetting one. I do not plan to rework the trash can/toilet because I'm pretty happy with it. I don't want to be dismissive of other's valid thoughts on it and generally adding a way for people to customize their experience with a toggle is the way to go for gray areas where different people in different bits of life can argue about something and both be right.

Please don't flush live fish, dear god

It isnt actually promoting flushing fish its a little feature that a lot of people wont even notice and ryan said may be removed, as far as im aware no one here is actually in favour of flushing fish

#

And like i said its the same as with the goldfish in fish and cheaps formerly petstart that is also not something any of us promote but it is something that happens so its in game

#

I think its good for this game to represent the bad as well as the good

#

Idk tho, i fully agree that flushing fish shouldnt be supported im just saying the fact of it being in game doesnt mean its supported and there are other options

I think it’s important to recognize that Fish Game does not have a goal of Making The Fishkeeping Hobby Better. The goal of the game is to represent the hobby, and there will always be things in the hobby that make people upset. You cannot possibly please every single person ever while reaching for that goal ever. As Ryan said, the team has had plenty of conversation on how they can represent things responsibly, without punishing the player (or rewarding them) for doing things that may be considered Bad. After all, you can acquire goldfish from a Big Box Store Stand-in- as well as short-bodied goldfish- all without being rewarded or punished. At the end of the day the toilet icon when deleting/trashing a fish, dead or alive, is just a silly detail that not only adds to the immersion but does in fact represent what a majority of people do with deceased fish.

As for the reality of all that: sewage removed from a home in a well-developed area is run through proper treatment and sanitation systems and dies not actually pose a risk of contamination. The only way that flushing a fish could potentially spread disease or contamination is if the person flushing the fish runs on a closed off septic system that is leeching into the ground, and that would be a whole other issue outside of just fishkeeping.

I understand that the toilet icon is upsetting for some, but as has been said, you can’t represent the whole hobby while pleasing everyone ever.
