SUMMARY
Servers used to be located in Texas quite a few years ago now its in Virginia; I will say ping has gotten tons better because of the switch to AWS. But personally if YOU want us to have a "close" enough infrastructure to KR Bring the Server closer to central. League of Legends did this years ago when they moved servers from Santa Monica to like Indiana or w/e. -
MAIN ISSUE
Having high ping can affect some players when doing content -
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
Bring the AWS server to a more centralized location so the ping spread is more even. or do a little more research so that everyone; even new players coming to play NEO have a better and smoother gaming experience. -
EVIDENCE/EXAMPLES
I live in Southern California; with Fiber I have 75-100 ping pretty much all the time. Most people on the west coast are within that range. and people on the East are like 8-10 ping.

Main thing is that server move was due to lower cost for upkeep, and they still went through with it despite the entire west coast being against the move. It literally caused hundreds if not thousands of west coast NA players to quit because of the ping difference. With the f10 revamp that’s supposed to come with purple, it may be far fetched but this could be something to reconsider if the shop revamp brings in enough revenue to warrant higher server cost. And even as an East coast player I have 18-25 ping. Won’t have single digit ping unless you live in Virginia where the servers are located
They aren’t gonna move the servers. It’s all about money and Virginia is cheaper. They always go with the lowest/cheapest costs for everything to save the most money possible. Keep dreaming.
I'll keep dreaming; literally doesn't cost anything to ask or see if its plausible but thanks for your "input"
sure I'm for that as well; hell if they could both be implemented that would benefit everyone regardless.
Riot moved the league servers to Chicago to be exact. For a single server on NA, this is probably one of the best, if not the best location. There's no centralized location in NA for AWS data centers so they'd have to switch to another server provider. (Azure has Iowa, Illinois, and Texas for example). Properly working auto bias/ping compensation is probably the best we can hope for since moving servers back to central seems really unlikely with this requirement.
What butter said is pretty accurate; players probably numbering in the thousands ended up quitting because of the server change. TBH I don't really blame them, I went from sometimes single digit ping to ~45ish and while it's perfectly playable, losing 15% dps to server move wasn't motivating to continue playing.
Ping that was displayed on the old client (UE3) wasn't your actual ping. AWS server move had negative impacts for everyone NA that aren't eastern. NA people, particularly west coast, that come back for neo will probably see the ping and think it's improved, since the last they saw was the jarbled mess that was on UE3, but I can see them quitting again once they realize how bad 80 ping is in reality compared to 20-30 or lower, etc, and it's actually worse than it was for them in the past
100% I almost quit myself as a west coast player due to the change but hopefully something can change for the better to have the gameplay feel as good as it used to for me
Speaking of which. Check out this thread #1196352602456215644 message
Bear has mentioned that he'll investigate the issues with Bias.
I know, I've seen
Sever shouldn't be in texas, that's too far south east. Chicago would be okay.
This will never happen. They moved to AWS for a reason, to cut costs. They can't just 'move the AWS server' to another location, Amazon would have to set up in said location first.
For Context.
Texas is central location as far as internet traffic goes, not south east or eastern. I agree chicago is better, but even when server was in TX, it was better than what we have now as a location.
and Texas helps South Americans. Only ppl getting scuffed are Canadians
Euph gets cucked regardless as a mountain Canadian
North America as a region includes Mexico which is why Dallas is usually considered central despite being US South
Texas with fiber would still benefit everyone. Prior to fiber upgrades, back when I first played I had like 110-120 ping on a good day (only had highspeed/coaxial internet). Would be an interesting move if they could come up with a solution to benefit everyone. AND implement the auto bias stuff from the other post
Autobias is far more likely then this suggestion.
Thanks for your ever so helpful input
That's just it, this suggestion won't happen. They switched to AWS for cost reasons, and I'm not even sure what data center options exist for a more central in USA location.

As a canadian I get scuffed anyways yeah, but I'm fairly certain east coast locations help south america more than texas because of the way underwater cables are routed along the respective coastlines. As in, not through the gulf of mexico. Someone more knowledgeable could weigh in but that's my 2 cents. And sadly there will never be an easy solution for our aussie or alaskan friends
You cannot place the Server perfect to arrange it for everyone. Not even with unlimited Money. Someone will always have to suffer with high Ping. This is why I posted the Suggestion to work on automatic Ping compensation
Virginia should be a better location for those in Brazil and other countries on the northern part of the continent for that exact reason
To my knowledge the only cable in the Gulf of Mexico that connects to Texas is from Mississippi.
Go play bns SA, this is bns NA
