Honestly, I think it's pretty straightforward why but I could be wrong. West doesn't have a moderation team. Or at least one that is sizeable enough to keep track of all F2's. They do not use algorithms like the big companies to auto detect majority of the bad actors in F2's. And West servers were notorious for putting a lot of "Not Safe For Work" and softcore on their F2's left and right. Heck I had a friend who had the most blatantly obvious F2 kept for 4 years straight and it was never taken down or warnings sent to them like some get in their account's registered email's inbox.
- So it makes sense they would just take it down because it is the easiest way to moderate it without a team.
KR is more tame, they at least as a community can behave better than the Wests need to exploit and push the boundaries of a games system's and ToS left and right.
- To say otherwise would be intellectually dishonest - but suppose I am going off of my own bias and thoughts on the matter.
You cannot have nice things if there is no one there to upkeep the rules.
NCSoft has between 3.2k~4k employees, non existent in the West however. So even if KR manages to be as bad at least they have eyes on that community more so than the West does. One cannot exist without the other's equivalent coverage/circumstances.

Setting up a facial and body algorithm check system isn't that hard, game companies have been implementing types of AI in the future field for years now, the important thing is setting it up through the companies own main employers.

It made so BNS fan art was actually created, i feel like 50% of BNS fan art was made for F2 profiles, so it also had positive outside game, it gave artists income and created BNS content in internet.

You guys do remember that the ability to upload custom images as profile picture was never innately part of the game, right? It was supposed to be just in-game screenshots as custom profile pictures with the in-game system as it was; uploading custom pictures required some spoofing of an image to turn it into a "screenshot". With this in mind, and the obvious potential for abuse if they allowed any picture to be uploaded directly as a profile, I doubt they'd add it back. Besides, the picture was never the important part of the profile, the important part was the stats and gear, so the bigger F2 priority should be to ensure F2 stats accuractly reflect resting stats in overworld.

Yeah bringing back vanilla in-game pictures would make a great difference already to the people here who care about identity and customization, and it's a lot of people.
Custom pictures were mentioned because KR has that supported (even gifs) while they removed our feature completely.
You can always make your own thread about making the stats shown on F2 more accurate.

Personally I think they have a choice here to implement something they know the community will feel like they have been heard on if it comes to Neo.
Personalization is high on everyone's lists, the CM is aware of the communities ordeals with F2, NCSoft should know it inside and out much the same. But KR gets their goodies, the West simply gets managed.
They might just remove it all together for all regions and call it quit, or, they will invest in coding it correctly and slapping a AI Art/face/body analytics bot to easily manage and dish out moderation.
NCSoft isn't known to have the greatest community track record, so at this point I'm just watching the vents unfold. West can't have nice things generally, they are too hard set on exploit and pushing boundaries of what they can and cannot get away with. Between those and the fake niceties I am fine with either result xD. It would still be cool tho if they made it a thing, because after all, the "❤️" 's speak of the communities voting. So it's not like they don't know.

I believe the original idea behind these pictures was to take a screenshot of your character and use that as your picture.
People found ways to bypass that and upload their own pictures, trying to copy the signature or whatever of an existing image.
It was a feature before I started playing this game and it was probably fun, but not used as intended.
It would require good NSFW detection, which people will still find how to bypass, by messing with the colors, etc.
If they want to go back to the original idea of taking your own character picture in the engine, they will have to render it in their own game engine server side, or idk, train an AI model with a bunch of BnS screenshots, and then ask it server-side while uploading - "is this a bns screenshot?"

a company like Nexon managed to moderate their player creations in MS2 while it was up since you could add images into all cosmetics player created, which is on another level than simply F2 pics

Reporting should also be a feature, but the failsafes I mentioned would also be good to have, the devs would have more time to improve bns and their other games instead of being bombarded with support tickets with "look this guy uploading [REDACTED] in his pfp"

The issue with the reporting system in bns is it was numbers driven... a while back a few buds I kno got their phantom community together and gave it a test, they identified the X number of reports that it takes to spam on someone within X amount of time and they were booted out of the game for 24hrs or until NCSoft responded to their ticket request. I am obviously not going to say these numbers nor spread it because I am not stupid.
What is lacking here is a moderation team, I mean apart from the obvious need for a whole new system built around this if it becomes a thing, and IF the Korean developers even care to.
I am convinced they wont because work, but hey, I'm hopeful, cause I am all for self expression and personalization.
I am a cosmetic whale and content creator for a reason.

I think instead of having the option for people to choose their f2 pictures, they could hire artists to make art for each class and for each gender, a bns style art. Similar to what astromancer has right now. Also they could add additional f2 avatar icons, for in game currency or ncoins. Personally I think its cool to grind them and 'show off' but having it in events would be nice as well free or not.
This idea gives ncsoft money, active players grinding these, plus less trash uploaded in game by random players. The game is already bursting from all the stuff they added, when ppl upload even more stuff, it only brings problems.
For players its just another custom thing, gives reason to grind something for fun or participate in the events more. In my opinion the text frames are bad addition to the game when our f2 page looks so plane and boring yet hella laggy(takes so long to open sometimes, the text frames annoy me I have it turned off lol) Optimizing f2 plus adding little customization options would be a nice addition to the game.

The thing is, those pictures are not representive of our characters. I know it might seem dumb to some people, but that is one thing I really liked in BNS. Your profile was literally yours, and you could dress it up with a picture of your character if you wanted. Now it's just a generic image of your class, and gender isn't respected.

i mean we have discord for that already. When i open f2 im checking stats not their profile pic but thats maybe like 80% of players thats why ncsoft removed it. When it takes too long to open stats ppl constantly check, its a problem. There is a reason why most successful games dont let randoms upload their files into their games or clients. That stuff is hard to keep an eye on and it loads the game with unnecessary junk. The most optimal solution that can compromise both sides is ncsoft making/selling icons to us for people like you who really wanna customize their f2.

No need to look for any explanation, the hrny side of gamers caused this feature to be removed here. F2 won't be back unless they decide to implement a system to detect NSFW content like Discord has on SFW channels when you try to share something lewd pepeShrug

I habe an idea, if we link our NC accounts to discord, then we can have a custom bot here, where they can approve image suggestions in a designated channel.
The bot will be able to upload the profile picture in the character profiles when a mod here clicks a ✅ on the pfp suggestion. Then the server will check if the character has an uploaded profile picture and display it ingame.
Maybe this method can even utilize the built in discord NSFW checker.
This will also bring more incentive for people to join the official BnS discord.

It is necessary to know the difference... I used to see hrny gamers in EU, just lewd bns stuff. It's another matter when they start putting cp, lolis, and all those things of dubious legality. I don't think that because of a few, the rest should have to pay. I didn't use f2 for fanmades but I did like to upload my waifu ingame on X map or whatever. That's life, ikr, but because of the class clown, you shouldn't punish the whole room, so I hope they find a system to detect NSFW content. I always say the same thing, Discord has one, it's not perfect, but it does its job.
And I add: Then there's a side problem, not NSFW but things that can be considered offensive even if they are memes or whatever (insert any 9/11 meme here), so well... It may be a bit more complex than just avoiding NSFW content + not having to always be on the lookout for specific pp reports

Possible Solutions and ideas against the lack of systems for Moderation for our F2 Vanilla in-game Screenshots for West: 
I know in this thread and the linked Forum Post was a lot good ideas already and the Communities heartbeat 
in very unique creative personal F2 examples.
We keep posting our beautyful BnS Screenshots here and will not give up on it.
Let us brainstorm and discuss again better ideas and solutions to solve this without too much effort. But we can help and suggest fixes.
1.) Set up a facial and body algorithm programme with good settings and NSFW Filters. Maybe you even can use something from The Purple upload Filters???
2.) Let BnS player apply for "free moderation" and pick a few to work with. Explain them the basics and show them how u want it. I heard Nyewii would be glad to
show his assistance and so do more who really would love to help out to make it less effort.
3.) Use harder Punishments. In old times support was sending them a very friendly email sometimes to remove the inappropriate F2. Just block innappropriate F2
Players from custom f2 for a week, than a month and if he didnt learn than perma bann from F2 pics. This allows the innocent people who use it properly to
keep having their fun in BnS without being plain bald ZongZongs.
4.) Maybe give us F2 avatar icons for Ncoins and/or events we can win or farm or swipe for.
Because we do miss and care about our Identy and customization and our creative freedom. We are no plain robots. 
Please feel free to add more Brainstorming and good ideas how to fix the Lack of F2 Moderation, so Rownen and Bear don`t have too much effort and losing their mind in it.
@boreal crest we appreciate all your work for this (please do your magic 
) and we would love to support and cheer you up with ideas

It is clearly a huge mess with every part of it (ui/code/api/database( ||EU's character search still showed Angler's Watch until recent|| becoming more and more desynced every patch. At least nowadays F2 still shows what it does know instead of saying good bye..

I can't see the hearts at all anymore. The deletion of the original thread seems to have knocked off the formatting that allowed hearts reaction. I'm no stranger to NC's antics but they have been getting work done elsewhere, like the outfits and moderation regarding botting. They also did say a couple of months ago that security for the game was a high priority for them; this may be delaying other things. I'm the last person to ever defend NC (they still owe me money on my bugged class change 
) but I really think we need patience here. And a new thread, perhaps.
I want the F2s back as well and I really don't think a couple of bad apples uploading questionable F2s were a good reason to take them away in the first place. I paid money for art commissions to be used as F2s throughout the years for this game and now they can't be used anymore. Surely others are in the same spot.

This has been elevated to the development team at NCK. Coulrophobia is a serious issue and clowns have been steadily increasing in B&S. I will raise this concern in my weekly meetings until we have a definitive answer. Clowns either need to be removed from B&S, or we'll need to continue to live with them. Either way we will take action and a concrete answer is needed and deserved. I'll update once I have a response.

Previously, we complained on the official website that the administrator had no interaction with us and would not respond to any messages. When you set up the official Discord, we thought things would change. In fact, nothing has changed. The items in the store are still outdated, the rewards for each event are continuously being reduced, and you almost never provide any positive feedback.

After an extensive back and forth with our partners in Korea the decision has been made to leave the [F2] Character Portraits in its current state.
We understand this news is not what players wanted to hear and we apologize for that. The conversations were well discussed and we ensured the sentiment of the community and the value that [F2] provided was understood by the leaders of Blade & Soul. Ultimately having the [F2] portraits be fully customizable came at a significant cost. There was a need to have constant moderation of what the players were uploading to ensure it did not break our Terms of Service. The resources required to keep that backend system functioning became increasingly more difficult to manage. These were core factors that led to the decision to discontinue it.
We want to thank all of you for voicing your strong opinions on this topic and they even reached the Lead Designer of Blade & Soul. We ask that you still continue to push us on many of your thoughts, concerns, and wishes for the game. All of your passionate words in this thread did make a difference, even though this outcome is not be desirable. We truly do appreciate all the hard work that goes into creating these suggestions.

Also, if i remember correctly, the picture we could put on our F2 was already only (LEGIT) acquirable trough an in-game snapshot? the fact that playerbase found a way to modify that picture is a different story
but with the new KR patch coming it won't be possible anymore, most probably..
